I still struggle with looking at different color, values and skin tone, but I do understand that some skin tones have yellows, pinks, ect depending on whether they’re light or dark

For me, I always find it easiest to use an alcohol marker that is close in color. I’ll apply the pencil first and then I would layer the marker on top of it to blend it.

Have you tried using Fabriano Artistico Hot pressed water color paper? Or Derwent Lightfast Paper? It’s expensive, but I get very good results for skin layering and burnishing. Derwent Lightfast is my favorite paper for portraits. I highly recommend you try! Buy a single large sheet and try them!! I buy the Paper pads because I use it it a lot.

Id love to try them, especially the Derwent lightfast paper, even the colored pencil, but i cant afford them yet, definitely on my bucket list

@@BMDPortraits if you were in the states, I would gladly mail you a couple sheets. I think you should try reaching out to Derwent and inquire if they can send you some Derwent Lightfast Paper and Lightfast Pencils to review on your channel? Derwent is very generous about sending products to viewed Art channels, and you can be honest about the product too! Derwent is excellent company.
You should consider reaching out to Derwent !!! :) Your channel is underrated, one of the best colored pencil artst you are.

Also, when there is good sale, buy some skin tones from Luminance if you tried them? They are in my opinion, the best pencils for portraits, they feel very close to Prismacolor rich color lay down, but without breakage issues and they last longer. They are expensive, but they last longer than Prismacolor pencils, so it worth it. Sometimes they on sale. I use Prismacolor and luminance together, they blend very well. But Luminance is King when it comes to burnishing. Such amazing smooth results.
