  • Hey! Today we took a quick example of the autofocus of the K-3 III in continuous shooting.
Please remember this was mostly done in one take 😊
Definitely not the most polished test, but results are results and we wish to present what we captured.
Premiere Pro for time stamps and counting shots:
    Viewfinder:
    00:49:11 to 00:52:09
It took 34 shots to fill the buffer. The first 20 image of the burst are acceptably focused but unfortunately the last third aren’t as my head pulls out of the focusing area and my daughter’s image fight for the subject recognition’s attention. If we were tracking the subject with the camera, it’s obvious we’d have a better hit rate. Not exactly what we were hoping for, but this is the result.
    Live View:
    01:17:20 to 01:20:25
It took about 36 shots to fill the buffer. ALL buffered shots are focused on my daughter and ALL but one or two of the very last images are acceptably focused.

In the LV, the AF locked on your daughter because she was near the centre of the AF area. That gave it AF priority. The RGB sensor also recognised the colour pattern at that spot, and despite your entrance from the side in blue shirt, and running in front of your daughter, the AF remembered different colour pattern (green jacket on your daughter), and followed her thoroughly. When the AF couldn't follow her in direct sight, the AF *knew* where she was and where the green jacket *should be* (at what distance). That is really impressive, and very useful in sports and in crowds especially; lock on subject's shirt colour and follow it.

Thanks very much for your videos, appreciate the effort, much more informative than the official videos. The camera certainly is a big upgrade regarding AF.

I'm curious if your camera actually displayed which focus point(s) were used during these shots when you press "info" to display the entire shooting info. I've found that about 90% of the shots I've taken don't show any focus points being active but the image is still sharp. Wondering if it's a bug or just my camera.

Thanks for the effort of creating this test. If I may suggest a little change though - for AF.C tracking I think shooting handheld and actually following the subject around would make more sense than shooting from a tripod.

Can you do a comparison with K3/KP doing the same? In case you have some available .)

Thanks for sharing! Perhaps next time try to use a slower burst rate, so that the camera does not fill its buffer as quickly.

the point is to pay over 2000€ and still be able to do this with nearly all the other cameras out there.

Hey Bong. The info says 94 shots before buffer kicks in. Not power shooter. But when you got birds, this camera rated the fastest.. I am on my second Silver camera. The glass got consistently very hot. Within 10 minutes of any use.. It is too hot to touch. And you can't use VF, the glass your nose can't take it. Haven't had much luck with others having this problem.

When shooting a burst, don't hesitate to do it in jpeg mode to have a longer burst, since the sharpness doesn't require RAW images in this particular case. Thanks for the test..

Hey guys. I read wrong. On buffer and FPS,sorry.

Go down to half burst speed, more then enough, use Pro cards writing 90-150 Mb/s not 30, this change everything. Maybe you have these cards. 55-300 plm is not the lens to use either it is entry level lens on a pro body. The FF lenses is a different story on any camera body.

A great camera ... if it would be half the price.

Amazing camera, garbage buffer. The buffer should be two times greater, at least. I feel that Ricoh intends a MK.IV in three or so years to address some of the minor aspects that cripple the camera.

maybe the buffer is less than that on other cameras, but I don't really see a need to "spray n' pray" with such a large buffer. Most shots can be timed to easily capture the shot within the allotted buffer on the K-3 III and it's substantially improved over previous Pentax cameras. Wouldn't really say it cripples the camera :) would be interesting to see if that concern is addressed in the future!

  • @slimphotog

Now it just needs a bigger buffer.

In my opinion you need to anticipate as a photographer and take small series of shots, not spray and pray continuously....Buffer would suit me perfectly as is. I don't like to go through hundreds of images after a shoot. I know marketing will try to convince me I'm wrong but I will stay strong... ;)

      70-80 frames at least

If you can't anticipate desired moment and capture it in 2 seconds with 22-24 images in total, then you should consider changing your hobby or profession. Or become a videographer. The whole idea is that hi-speed capture mode is available, but use it sparingly. Most trained users won't need more than 1 second of it. The photography is not about taking every possible shot, but about refusing to take unnecessary shots.

Agree. This type of buffer performance is more suitable for entry level camera.
They should have equipped it with xqd slot and tilt screen to make it perfect.

    • @zvonimirtosic6171
      @zvonimirtosic6171 3 года назад

@@vaibhavpisal And then slap the price of $2999, which would be reasonable for such an equipped camera (even if it were theoretically possible to have a tilting screen with high eye-point OVF and a huge pentaprism; which in fact is NOT physically possible because the camera becomes too THICK for that feat). Are you willing to cash out $3K for a Pentax DSLR? Pentax knows their users are scrooge curmudgeons, which are never happy with anything.

People that have no knowledge of the limitations of cameras making "tests" expecting the camera react the way they want. dude go test food on different restaurants! 😂😂😂 did you learn the mistakes you happen to make with your test? In fact the test is about yourself not the camera. The camera is great once you learn how to use it.
