Thanks for sharing. Very informative. I always wondered why helmets had to be upgraded after so many years. What I was told by the track helmet inspectors is that while the helmet's shell never goes bad, the padding inside loses its effectiveness after so many years. But as you said some places care more than others. Also I share the same feeling about helmets as I do about tires and car batteries. Buy the best you can afford, even borrow if you can, to get the best you can get. Of course even more so when your cranium is involved. Keep up the good work. 👍
nothing wrong with an open face. I would have preferred open face. The ss 1le camaro I had before had very little headroom. this full face one I bought was a little lower profile and gave me just a little more clearance with the roof and top of helmet. The open face one they had was a little taller profile and didn't work out for me because of clearance issues.
Awesome Video and knowledge of safety equipment as I thought some of the motor cycle helmets would be a greater or higher rating due to being more exposed to open road driving with no other protection, order my Snell Sa approved a week ago. and nice video content of the that Camaro ZL1 1le when it first came out in 18. Made me go get one in 19 Garnet Red Metallic.
I assumed the same thing as you with motorcycle helmets initially. Congrats on the zl1 1le. Just got my C8 last week! Be sure to check out the channel for new content. Thanks for watching...
I believe helmets are snell rated every 5 years. This being 2019 would only be good for 5.5 years. I guess I will wait to 2020 to buy one. Thank you for the info about the SA rating.
I recently received my racequip open face helmet. I have very little headroom without a helmet... I have to slouch with my new helmet on. I kind of feel like Super Dave Osborne with it on, ready to be shot out of a cannon. Next month I have my first track day. I hope the slouching does not effect my driving or cramp my neck/back.
I would suggest adjusting your seat to the position you would need to be in with the helmet on and drive for a couple days around town (obviously without the helmet on) to get used to the new seating position. This way when you get to the track it won't feel too different. I got used to it real quick.I had to lean my seat back a bit further than i would normally like also.. Going to the dealership today to get an oil change and inspect the brakes, suspension, tires for any nails/screws, and possibly a track alignment.. I'm exited for your upcoming track day! You are going to have a blast... It is unlike anything you will ever experience on the street...
jrock702 Thanks for the advice. I will give that a try. As far as a track alignment goes... I daily my car and was wondering if swapping the alignment back and forth for events would be an issue or if I should just get done it and leave it.
@@LordDeadSpider No problem. my pleasure! Finally getting somewhere with the track alignment issue... I would say unless you have a place or dealer that specializes in track set up don't let them touch your car! I had a lot of questions and talked to many people at multiple dealerships and nobody seemed to be able to answer my questions or was willing to help me. However 15 minutes ago i got a call from a GM specialist who has a mechanic at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet that loves setting up race cars and knows a lot about suspension and set up... He even knew about the 1 time use (tty) bolts that need to be ordered and installed for the track alignment. It's about a 3 hour job and with parts and labor gonna be about $600... He also said that with his set up he would be able to get the car very close to the track spec while still having the tires wear decent for street driving.. Unfortunately not enough time to make this happen for this Saturday because parts will need to be ordered. I will look into this further for next time . If i were you I wouldn't attempt to do this yet. Just go out and do the track day with stock setup like I'm doing for now unless you find someone and feel confident that they know what they are doing. If(or when) I decide to do the track alignment I will do a full documented video on the whole process as I've been unable to find any videos on having this done. Stay tuned... More videos to come!
jrock702 Thanks for that info. I know one dealer nearby that has their own race team, figure if I get it done I would try there first. That would be a great vid if you wind up getting it done. I will hold off.
This basically me 😂
Nice breakdown. I’ve been going with a motorcycle helmet for years but now I’m finally going to get a SA2020 one
Thank you for the info I just ordered a racequip vesta20! Can’t wait to get it
Nice! you're welcome!
Very informative. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm in a similar boat with a Snell-M helmet currently
my pleasure! Thanks for watching...

How tall are you? Have the same car but i am 6.4'. Trying to find the smallest helmet, came across your video.
I'm 5'11'' . I hope you find a helmet that works. Thanks for watching!
