I used to work for an outdoor outfitter who sold the high end expensive brands like petzl which for a long time was my go to, about 15 years ago I decided to buy the less expensive energizer brand and found it to be comparable and even better in many ways. Great value and 15 years later my old one is still going strong and I like my new ones. Expensive doesn’t always mean better. Good review
Thanks for the comment and I couldn’t agree more! I have always been obsessed with finding quality gear that doesn’t break the bank, and Energizer certainly has delivered on that for me, and I use these headlamps A LOT! I’d love to have some of the “nicer” brands like Petzl and Black Diamond, maybe one day, but for now I’ll stick with what I know. Stay well!
Excellent down to earth review ! I have the grey one as well and I agree 100% on the light bleed ! I am thinking of upgrading too. One can tell that you have actually formulated an opinion from actual usage ! Bravo. + 1 subscriber. The only problem I 've had with my energizer headlamps is that they can accidentally switch on in a bag easily !
Thanks for the feedback! One thing I do to prevent the light turning on is wrap the headband strap around the light housing (covering the buttons) when it goes in my gear bag. Worth a try! I appreciate the follow! Stay well.
I have I’ve Energizer headlamp that is still going after 15+ years and I love it. I just purchased a new Energizer headlamp that is terrible (not the model you purchased). I actually used the headband of the new one to replace my old reliable light. Great review.
That's awesome, thanks for sharing Jim. It's easy to get brand loyal when you have something serve you well for 15+ years. Curious as to what happened with the new purchase that made it terrible, just bad overall or a specific feature?
@@PerformanceOutdoor With the new light it’s wasn’t near as bright and the beam was spread out way too far. The old light threw a beam more concentrated and about 2-3 times further. The old light has served me well and I hope it lasts another 15 years lol
I walked into a sporting goods store yesterday to purchase a Petzl headlamp. No stock on the model I wanted! So I walked out with an Energizer headlamp - it was less expensive and had more features anyway. I tried it out last night and quickly realized it was better than it needed to be and better than I expected it to be. :) I particularly liked the bright green light and the continuously-variable intensity adjustment of the white lights. Good for everything from a night ascent, to hunting snails, to reading in the dark.
I’m telling ya, I love finding those hidden gems. No need to spend $50+ on a headlamp when you got a winner for less than half that. Nothing against petzl and the like. Glad to hear it’s already working out for ya!
I have just purchased the similar 3 AAA battery (not rechargeable) Energiser Head Torch and so far I’m pleased with it. It is the brightest head torch I have ever had and it seems well balanced when wearing it. I’ve had a number of head torches over the years, but the first I ever bought was the best and that was a energiser head torch, but I am expecting this one to be better. I bought my head torch for diy, but I will also use it for camping and walking.
Great video man. I have one and I love it. I also carry Anker 20000mAh battery pack in my pack when I'm out. I don't have to worry about batteries and I can get 8 charges out of it.....which is a lot of time of use. I also own Streamlights, Black Diamonds, Petzl's, and Princeton Tec's.....and I like it just as well as those. I trust the higher end brands for harsh weather use....but I haven't had the Energizer out in bad conditions....it may do just as well as them.
Hey Ad Astra, appreciate it! I have definitely had the Energizer in some bad weather and it has absolutely held up. I may buy a couple others just for some variety, so I appreciate you dropping some brand names you trust.
I have the Energiser Vision HD Headlight 300 Lumens. It is the red Energizer battery-operated headlight. I just bought two Vision Rechargeable Headlight 400 Lumens headlights and am disappointed in the latter. It is not much brighter than the 300, but rather maybe a bit more focused which is not necessarily an advantage. It also bleeds more into my eyes than the 300 Lumens version and it is heavier. Energizer has dropped the ball a bit.
Hi again, finally I've bought this new model. My question is about the tiny red light ( in the back near thé usb socket) when charging the lamp: is it supposed to light off or change color when charging process is done ? Mine seems stuck to red. Thanks !
After fully charged it should change to green. I haven’t had an issue with that feature as of yet. I also haven’t time it to know how long it takes. Typically I plug it in at night when it’s low, so it’s ready for my morning run. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
I can’t say I’ve ever timed it myself. Typically I charge overnight and grab it on my way out the door in the morning. I have found it holds its charge really well.
I had full battery. I haven't used it for one week and it was dead... Why it doesn't start and work only with poor light or something informs that there is Low battery. I have Rechargeable Headlight
Hey there Jerome. I’ll be honest, I don’t know more than to say it’s a lithium battery and after well over a year and A LOT of use, it’s still outperforming expectations. Wish I knew more to direct you, all I can say is that I this is still the most reliable headlamp I’ve ever owned and it’s still at a bargain price. Sorry I couldn’t answer your question more specifically.
Hi Craig. Sorry should have shown that. Ok the back side of the light there is a waterproof rubber flap that you open to expose a micro-usb port. You plug in there and a red (charging) or green (charged) light pops up.
Certainly hasn’t been my experience, I usually get 20+ hours out of it before needing a charge, but you do bring up a good point on the monopoly between a battery company and a battery company’s product. However even on Energizer’s headlamps that require actual batteries I’ve always had an excellent experience.

So true more expensive does not mean better.....sometimes. But better equipment usually and understandably IS more expensive.
Well said. Nothing worse than paying a lot for something that doesn’t last. Nothing better than paying a little for something that does.
I see what you mean
I found a ¢
£35 pair of trainers to be better than my 150 pound pair
15 hours is on low I believe. I own one of these too....and I like it just fine. Got it for 25 bucks at Target....it's worth that anyway.

After 2 years (assuming that you wrote this comment 2 years ago (or maybe even 3 almost?) Is your lamp still running? :)@@jimmiddleton5093

Thanks for the video

It works but for me it’s to bright even on low . I like a 1 lmn moonlight mode but other than that it’s actually pretty good for the price
Nice, been looking for a less expensive headlamp. I've looked at the black diamond ones, but they're pricey.

What kind of battery chemistry? Lipo? Lifepo4? Liion?

How do you charge it for example
Hi Craig. Sorry should have shown that. Ok the back side of the light there is a waterproof rubber flap that you open to expose a micro-usb port. You plug in there and a red (charging) or green (charged) light pops up.
Mine was 315 lumen from Lowes vision grey color
Hello please at which max angle can you adjust this lamp ? 90 degree as the older model ? Thanks !
Hi there. I would say the max angle is a hair past 90 degrees. 95-100 maybe.
I'd like to ask since I can't really find anything online and it didn't come with instructions but do you know what the three mode switches are?
The 3 lights are all out (wide and beam), just wide and just beam. The left button is red solid, red flashing and green solid.
@@PerformanceOutdoor Thank you so much! I got the hang of it the other day.
Using this 3 years and notice noisy clicking but not the PWM...
Old model is $7.29 right now on amazon
Super annoying to you, the sound has never bothered me. I've used them for three years now and the only problem I've ever had was a battery leaking.
I had vision hd for 8 years. Lost it. Wouldn't buy anything else.
I have the rechargeable unit and it too has thar loud plastic click. 🙄
That’s so odd, have you had yours long? I wonder if they changed designs at some point. I was so pleased when this one was basically silent for me.
@@PerformanceOutdoor Two week.
But Ive better units by Olight and Nitecore. 🤔
Wow that stinks, I really hope they didn’t revert back to the older version, I was so pleased by that change. Thanks for your comment on this.
Poor light, but its cheap
It's a POS. They engineered it to run out of battery power in just a few hours. Never buy battery run electronics from a battery company.
