I have two Nitecore HC30 lamps which have done me very well over the last 3 years. They don't have all the features of the NU43 but do have removeable batteries and I've used them on the Arc 100 twice. I love the brand but the non removable batteries does seem to be a mistake. Useless fact of the day - The 18650 (pronounced eighteen six fifty) is so called as it is 18mm diameter by 65.0mm long nominaly. In practise, the length can be a few mm longer.
its the perfect light for running in my opinion when you need a longer lasting headlamp you probably are running with a running vest anyway then i'd get a Nitecore Hu2000 compined with a 10'000mAh battery pack so you don't have the weight of the battery on your head...
Thank you for the review. I prefer the soldered-in battery. A swappable battery has contact points that introduce resistance and failure points making them less reliable and less efficient. A high output 15-hour burn time is enough for the vast majority of people. I’ve been using torches for 40 years and have always demanded swappable and carried spares so my brain had extreme difficulty adjusting to modern torch technology. I originally carried several spares, then when I started to trust the technology, I carried one spare. I stubbornly carried a spare for years and never used it. You mention the limited calendar life of the battery as being one of the reasons you would prefer swappable. The battery will easily last 10 years, possibly 20 with minimal degradation. It will outlast the other torch materials. The strap and plastic materials will fail before the battery. The manufacturer made a good decision to solder the battery in. The battery replacement rule for races is a valid consideration. Perhaps it’s time to change the rule.
I'm still not sure about the fitted battery. I understand everything you've said but if you do have an issue with the battery, which could happen, things do break or stop working when it come to technology, then there's nothing you can do 🤷♂️ I still feel removable batteries are a more practical option, although Nitecore have just bought out a battery pack for this touch so it'll be interesting to see how that works 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated.
@@Run4Adventure Never had the torch in my hands but judging by the pics on their website it looks to me that the aluminium front cover is possibly glued to the battery with some kind of thermal pad or paste. I can see the logic behind it when they wanted to max out the light output while keeping the weight at check.
Well I gave you & Nitecore a 👎for the UT 27, but 👍for this recommendation. It's much more robust in construction & much more suitable for my training... Love it after using it for months now...
got it for half e year loving it! not an ultra runner, so having a swappable battery isn't needed using it in the mountains, ski touring and for running, perfect light
Just to let you know, I used the NU43 to pace a friend at Grindstone 100M in Sept. It only lasted about 5 hours. I’ve contacted Nitecore customer support and am in conversation with them. I only had the unit set on the 300Lumen 15 hour setting. The night temps were about 8-10C. I fully charged it and tested the unit in the hotel the next day and it lasted over 16 hours on 300L setting 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you for the excellent review. I'm thinking of using this for nature photography, so it'll be turned on say, for a hour or two before sunrise and/or for a few hours after sunset, so not being able to swap batteries on the fly is no big deal. Nevertheless, from an environmentally friendly perspective, would it be possible to replace the battery after it eventually degrades too much to be usable? I wondering if it could be done with some common tools, or if Nitecore offers such a service (but at what price, and would it be worth it for something so inexpensive).
For photography you should get a lamp with high CRI to get better colours in your shots. Wizard C2 Pro Nichia Magnet USB is really good as it has over 90 CRI and a very nice even flood light, so adjusting photos will be easier.
Are you sure you're not mistaking the 1400 turbo mode for the 600 lumen mode? The turbo mode will dip down after a few minutes 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
@@fattahrahman7796 I don't have my NU43 yet (it arrives tomorrow), but I know that the NU43 has a proximity sensor that I believe dims the headlamp down to 100 lumens when an obstruction is nearby. I think that the sensor is between the two main LEDs and below the red LED.
@@EdwardRaybouldI can tell you right now from experience from other headlamps with proximity sensors that it will be a problem running in the rain! Unless you like running in the rain at 100 lumens?
I have had mine 1 day and I can confirm it does dim from 600 lumens to 300 after a few minutes, dissappointed in it as when using for walking the dogs it doesn't light up very far in front, will be returning it
cool jacket at start of video 👍 head torch would be better if it had a red led on the back, the spec and battery life seems good and if you like a 1980's retro tech style it looks ok too 🤔🙃 will races accept a power bank as a spare battery? but then it's not lightweight... I usually just take 2 head torches instead of a spare battery as races accept that
Thanks, I'm glad you liked my jacket! There's a lot of races now that won't accept a power pack and you have to carry spare batteries. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Don’t most races state you must carry an extra battery or extra light, in which case you could carry a 50 gram backup light instead of an extra battery.
I've been using one since they came out a few months ago. It's the best head torch I've used and I've had quite a few now. Sometimes it's a tad tricky to know which mode you are in expecially if the battery power has dropped a little. I use the strap bit that goes over the top of your head. It's a clever feature which doesn't get much of a mention. Full power on full beam is something else especially for the overall weight
As a durability reference: I accidentally put my UT27 in the washing machine. It had to dry afterwards but it's still working! Though I do have to take out the battery once just before use. But besides that I have had zero problema with it and done dozens of early morning runs with it.
How are dogs reacting? I was surprised some of them wanted to attack me when i run evenings with headlamp..maybe its unuasual for them to see man with lightnening....and it was in a city! In suburbs i bet it would be worse..

Looks like a good torch, shame you cannot replace the batteries, it means it's not suitable for races. 😔
Most people aren't racing for more than 29 hours of darkness, although that does sound like an adventure!

Yup, that locked in battery is a no go for me, I would have bought one but they just lost a sell because of that.

Woop Woop Lloyd has up loaded a video….. Dang it’s not the ARC
I just returned the Fenix hl18r-t, the spot was faded an ordered the NU 43 for less money 53 USD :)
I believe they used plastic instead of metal to reduce weight but then lost a removable battery box cap.

The big BUT is a complete deal breaker because of race mandatory kit requirements (as you point out of course). Such a shame.
