- Recent violent crimes in Ala Moana area have residents on edge. One lawmaker said prosecutors need to step up and is calling on stiffer penalties for those who commit violent crimes and repeat offenders.

So if crime is down, why was I told just a couple months ago the guy that broke into my business would never be prosecuted even though caught in my building with company items worth over $15,000 and on probation with drugs on his possession. I was told the prosecutors office was a year behind or more on prosecutions if they even ever happen. I was also told unless it was a violent encounter with the robbery and someone was physically hurt. No one would ever be prosecuted. So how is this stopping crime? This man was caught in the act by my cameras and arrested in the building. Somebody help me understand.

Crime is not down. Truth of the matter is that a lot of stores/businesses tell there employees not to stop shoplifters and just let them steal it without even reporting it to HPD. Just literally 1 day ago which was yesterday I witnessed for the second time this year in which someone just stole items while the cashier just watched and when I asked she said we cant do anything. In the mainland a lot of stores are closing because of to much theft. If this does not stop in Hawaii a lot of stores will start closing down.

And I can say with sincerity, that’s a relevant question. It is still producing shock waves of horror when we think of the Lahaina fire. I am not in liberty to admit, the most painful loss of our loved ones that it seems like my heart is in million pieces. We know that there will always be a special tender place in our memory for our loved ones, and the legacy of their influence will remain as long as we live. And in a sense of realization that the heavy burden that weighs on mind and heart that hope should categorize my understanding.
We all have pain in some degree in life and we are living in a hurting world. It’s easy to lose balance and so often we move to arena of comfort.
Nobody understands unless you’ve been there, unless you’ve walked through that dark valley of life.

I used to visit Maui quite a bit, I loved Lahaina and the people I met there, I used to stay at the Pioneer Inn and drink my morning coffee under the banyan tree, it was so peaceful. Everything has changed so much now, I have no reason now to go back, I just want to see justice for the victims, that is what I pray for, God bless you Esther.

HPD get out of your freaking cars already and walk the beat! I should see cops all over the place but instead they're just sitting in their cars cruising around.
This is not a lie. i remember the days when there were a few bicycle cops around and many motorcycle and police cars on the roads. in current day I can drive for a whole week and not see one police officer on the road. in the 90s and into early 2000s there would be people who i knew who got tickets for tint, expired safety check, expired reg, lifted, lowered, too wide of tires, I mean there were lots of things people would get stopped for. current day I will see more expired safety checks on the road then police. I don't know what happened to Hawaii's law enforcement. the title is there, but the enforcement is severely lacking.
I don't wait for HPD for anything. A man allowed himself into where I lived (mentally off) and they were afraid to even come inside. You're better off defending yourself than waiting on them.

BOTH the judiciary AND the police department needs to stay in their lanes and do their jobs. ENFORCEMENT by the HPD and commensurate judgements served upon repeat offenders by the courts. I think the residence in that area expected the homeless to just stay in the park and not eventually encroach into their community and cause such heinous crimes. my advice to residents in that area is to be vigilant and always keep your head up. I walk every morning in my area near Moanalua, there are many senior citizens that walk at the hour I go walking and one common thing I see is they are always looking down at the ground. I know they want to watch their step to not fall, but they do not realize they are easy targets because they do not recognize their surroundings. that is just one example I see of easy victims. but we all know that the person with their head down staring into their smartphone is the easiest target. always be aware who is following you and make eye contact with people who approach you. so many people now days will not make eye contact with people which if you need to later give a description of your assailant you can give a more accurate description.

Maybe if HPD spent less time dicking around on the freeways and actually did something, crime would be lower. Always see 3 or more police vehicles parked side by side just trying to catch someone speeding. Tax payers money hard at work there.

Cameras don’t stop crime. What is that camera supposed to do when it captures a crime that is already happening??
@@JohnSkyLey footage can be used as evidence in court to build a strong case, you never know if having one piece of footage can make or break the entire case. but unfortunately, ive seen testimony in this comments section where even the video footage of someone committing a crime does not guarantee that they will be prosecuted. still, it's better to be prepared than not.
