Dunno bout you but I feel like a lot of people know about the poverty and ghettos of hawaii. A lot of Hawaiians grow up fighting like kids from Stockton.
I can tell you that I heard of people flying off those two buildings when I used to visit a friend of mine who lived there in the 1990's. I was always humble and friendly to everyone when I went there. Didn't act out or dress in a way that would make me stand out in the wrong way. People were nice to me when I would visit, but on multiple occasions, I was asked me why I was there. I would tell them I was visiting so and so and they were cool about that. I know for a fact that if you don't have business or live at KPT, don't go. Simple.

It's sad because I live in the Big Island of Hawai'i and we have kids in my high school who also try to act like gangsters. While they are chill if you don't bother them and even funny at times, you can always hear them blasting music with their speakers in the halls all day, even during class. Also, you can catch students picking fights with other students (even teachers, though it's quite rare, but I still have seen it happen nonetheless), doing and dealing drugs, having s*x in the staircases, doing donuts in the parking lots, stealing, sneaking alcohol in their hyrdo flasks, and even bringing knives to school. Heck, just a couple of weeks ago a person stabbed another student in the back. The stabbing victim survived but it still tells you how bad it is. I don't know if these things happen in other schools but they shouldn't be.
"bringing knives to school"....thats childs play literattly compared to out here in California. Kids bringing pistols to school and school shooters too. Evil times we living in. @@graysonofyahweh I believe you, but that's not the point. What I'm trying to say is that kids SHOULDN'T be acting and shouldn't have to act like gangsters. They don't have to be all goodey two shoes, but they have to stop thinking that living a criminal life is "cool".
Back in the day when I grew up, I was a kid walking thru there with no problems, Crip, Blood, S.O.S, whatever and to this day I drive thru reminiscing playing with my friends who lived there. It ain't so bad, I think it was worse back then.
In the thumbnail the building in background is Kuhio Park Terrace apartments or KPT for short. There is A building and B building. Sunny's Mart has great Samoan hot food and the Samoan folks livingupstairs were so friendly! I stayed with Samoan friends on 14th floor A building for 3 weeks back in June 2009. I walked around nobody bothered me at or felt threatened probably word was out Samoan family that was hosting me. I'm Palangi (white guy). I remember alot of Micronesian residents at KPT. Elevators were always breaking down so sometimes you had to climb the stair well. The back parking lot of building A was full of broken kitchen appliances, and washer dryer machines. I heard that since 2009 KPT was remodeled and upgraded.
I'm living in los angeles now, but was raised Hawaii. Not sure if they all still there. Back in the 80s and 90s it was kalihi housings, palolo housings and mayor wright's housing for the projects i was familiar with. Kids throwing up to gang signs nothing new. They all start young there. I lived in kalihi housings and palolo housing. Definitely rough. Hopefully they take you to try the manapua truck if that's still a thing mac. Islands showing you mad love. Mad respect!
Aw I wished you interviewed other people, like other ages with realistic questions and got more history context of the area. I actually grew up there cause my Grandma would watch me while I lived out in Wai’anae. They’re the Manapua truck family in one of the buildings. She lived on the 17th floor back then and there was horror stories of people getting thrown off or committing suicide. Those stairwells still smell like doo doo & pee lol. From what I remember there’s mostly Samoan, Micronesians & Asians in these housing areas.
@@nephuland the ghettos for the poor Hawaiians are called Hawaiian homestead. There's hawaiian homstead in every part of the island. Papakolea is in town. Hawaiian homestead in Waimanalo, Kapolei & Waianae. Those are the most known ones. Homestead is for Hawaiians that are 50% blood that can't afford a home to buy or rent so they sign up to get leasehold land for $1 a year to live on. You have to build your own house. Some programs have houses already built. 28,000 families are currently on the waiting list & it will take years for more land & housing to be made. Family members that are drug users & criminals live there & don't have to worry about rent. Some people spend money on expensive cars, motorcycles, jewelry & toys. It's ghetto mentality. The majority of Hawaiians don't even speak Hawaiian or practice any Hawaiian culture. The missionaries told Hawaiians to give up everything they know & become English speaking Christians. The Hawaiian Monarchy was overthrown & became the 50th state illegally. Hawaii is now just another American state being advertised as a paradise vacation destination but locals have to work hard to afford the high cost of housing & cost of shipping everything to Hawaii. Most locals don't even think of leaving the island but some realize that it's more affordable to live in another state. Most locals think Las Vegas is a good place to move to but I think Vegas isn't a good place to live compared to other states & cities in the USA
@@AZtheOG So most hawaiians live in their own communities basically, not with the other polys and asians? Just tryna figure out why every time someone makes a hawaii hood video they only have samoans and asians in it lol. I know what you’re saying tho, I’m Māori and my people have gone through a similar thing to where now you will only find small pockets of fluent Te Reo Māori speakers deep in Gisborne or Hastings where the Māori population is more than 50%. Thankfully we don’t have it as bad as Hawaiians in terms of culture erasure tho, our traditional culture is still practiced to an extent and we still have hakas for every school and sports team. Even white, african and asian kids and other polys are brought up learning a little bit of Māori culture and basic phrases. But we also fall into the same trap of gangs and crime, and being influenced by American media a lot of us speak and act like black americans and use the n word frequently which is dumb as fuck, our history of struggle is completely different to theirs. I guess there’s also a problem with fatherlessness that leads to these problems, we’re not like other Polynesians who have strong family units so it leaves a lot of Māori kids neglected and bored which leads them into stupid actions.
To the ones who say why there are gang bangers/ghettos in Hawaii, the price of living there is high due to tourism. I went to a bar there and the owner came out and drank with my party and he said he was barely making ends meet despite owning a bar near Waikiki beach(the popular beach).
Wherever you have income inequality and rich and poor you will have Violence, drugs and gangs. Humans not meant to live on top of each other improvished. Why you think you don’t have those problems down south where it’s black ppl in big houses
It is actually 100% the fault of government. Tourism is the only thing keeping Hawaiians afloat. When you have a group of people whose ancestors have owned the land since before time, there is NO reason they should be priced out of something they already own. Property taxes are what f**ks them. If you own a piece of land from your ancestors and it goes up to millions of dollars in value, you SHOULD be richer. But when the government comes and demands you to pay a portion of the "value", you are screwed if the value is high. Property taxes force people to liquidate their land early while it grows in value because they cant afford the higher taxes while they are still working for a low income. I get what you're trying to say, and it's true there is an injustice here, but you're blaming the wrong party.... Source: I have an economics degree and work in finance and my family is from Hawaii.

We've always had small loosely organized sets of Blood and Crips since the late 80's early 90's. People out here will fight in a heartbeat day or night tho. Over the years it's gotten worse with guns and stabbings which happens alot in Waikiki it just doesn't happen all the time like in other hoods. My grandfather was apart of Hawaii's syndicate before he became a born again Christian..... He and the old timers and our ohana will NEVER let Hawaii get crazy stupid like that ... Never ever ever.
Not talking about this clip but Whats point doing all that crap or become small time dealers. Why do small timers sell drugs and live in poor ghetto places? Ain’t the point of selling drugs is to get out of the ghetto and making big money? I understand if you sell dope if you can make 6 figures easily but making anything less than that , what is the point?? And why do they talk like that when they got nothing to do with the black culture 😅
I saw Brandon Buckingham's vid about the Bloods over at KamIV highway, and from both sides, the Crips seem more humane/down to earth. I know gangs are like a big family for the less fortunate; people who are usually born into it. But you gotta set a decent example for the youth man. Stick close like family, but push them in the right direction. It'll only be a loop man.
This vid is mostly showing the OGs from KPT, Brandon’s vid mostly showed the newer generation. If this vid had the younger generation they’d probably be the same lol

[Quran Chapter 59]
18. O you who believe! Fear God, and let every soul consider what it has forwarded for the morrow, and fear God. God is Aware of what you do.
19. And do not be like those who forgot God, so He made them forget themselves. These are the sinners.
20. Not equal are the inhabitants of the Fire and the inhabitants of Paradise. It is the inhabitants of Paradise who are the winners.
21. Had We sent this Quran down on a mountain, you would have seen it trembling, crumbling in awe of God. These parables We cite for the people, so that they may reflect.
22. He is God. There is no god but He, the Knower of secrets and declarations. He is the Compassionate, the Merciful.
23. He is God; besides Whom there is no god; the Sovereign, the Holy, the Peace-Giver, the Faith-Giver, the Overseer, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, the Overwhelming. Glory be to God, beyond what they associate.
24. He is God; the Creator, the Maker, the Designer. His are the Most Beautiful Names. Whatever is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him. He is the Majestic, the Wise.

I was always humble and friendly to everyone when I went there. Didn't act out or dress in a way that would make me stand out in the wrong way. People were nice to me when I would visit, but on multiple occasions, I was asked me why I was there. I would tell them I was visiting so and so and they were cool about that.
😂

I walked around nobody bothered me at or felt threatened probably word was out Samoan family that was hosting me. I'm Palangi (white guy). I remember alot of Micronesian residents at KPT. Elevators were always breaking down so sometimes you had to climb the stair well. The back parking lot of building A was full of broken kitchen appliances, and washer dryer machines. I heard that since 2009 KPT was remodeled and upgraded.

where are all the native hawaiians at?
Getting Sturdy in Hawaii!!!!!! 💪🏾💫🗽🍎
Love how u show love to the kids like that 🫡
To the ones who say why there are gang bangers/ghettos in Hawaii, the price of living there is high due to tourism. I went to a bar there and the owner came out and drank with my party and he said he was barely making ends meet despite owning a bar near Waikiki beach(the popular beach).
Words from a tourist
Wherever you have income inequality and rich and poor you will have Violence, drugs and gangs. Humans not meant to live on top of each other improvished. Why you think you don’t have those problems down south where it’s black ppl in big houses
Due to tourism? Lol they'd be far worse off without it, fuck are smoking

Stick close like family, but push them in the right direction. It'll only be a loop man.
