Crazy to think that the Royal Marines and the Korps Mariniers were both founded during the Anglo-Dutch wars to kill eachother but they are now best allies!
🤔 if you want to be strictly accurate the Royal Marines were formed between the 1st and 2nd Anglo - Dutch war although they weren't called RM at that time.
Most of our allies are from wars. Like France we fought tons of wars against them and ofcourse america

As a Dutch navy engineer, I have lived in the UK for over 4 years and had the time of my life. Working together with the Royal Navy was a blast and enjoyed every minute of it, and would go back in a heartbeat. Great colleugues, great support and learned a lot from my UK friends in Bristol and Plymouth, felt at home from the minute I set foot in the UK.

Recently the german Sea battalion is also being integrated in to the dutch navy/marines .
The 2 motos together : Mare per terram and Qua patet orbis actually translate quite well in to one sentence : The sea through the land , as far the world extends .

I moved to the UK from Rotterdam in 2003 and have lived half my life in the Netherlands and the other half in the UK. In Rotterdam I lived a stonesthrow from the Korps Mariniers van Ghent barracks. This alliance gives me so much pride and joy. Crack on.

Working in recruitment I nearly every week speak to people who live and work in NL for years and hardly don't speak Dutch at all, dreadful, no excuse for that.
The fact Dutch people speak English does not absolve you from learning the countries language.

Back in the 70s I was told children had english lesson from about age 8. Don't worry mate I struggle with my english and I was born and breed.
Completely agree. It shows respect for your hosts to learn their language. We don't like it when others don't when they come here; the same goes for us when we're abroad. Brits are particularly poorly prepared for this given the lack of language teaching at a higher level in schools and universities.
That is because there is a lot of English spoken in the netherlands.

Soooo many people (the vast majority I come across) are fluent in their own language, and at least partially fluent in English. Yet I truly can't say the same for myself or most of the lot I grew up with

I wanted to ask, I'm a Dutch citizen and I speak Dutch and currently learning if is it useful to be a dutch former citizen in the royal marines?
You need to be a British or Commonwealth Citizen to serve in the British military ... so I'm afraid not.

yes it is the improvement of the English soldier to be informed and to speak other languages. After our victory against these Nazis oppressing the peoples next to their borders, we must put the means to prevent such atrocities from happening again.

I dont know if this has changed but the only european NATO certified expeditionary amphibius force is the Spanish-Italian Amphibius Force or SIAF. It is composed by italian San Marco Marine Brigade and the spanish BRIMAR, Marine Brigade (the first marines unit in the history since 1536). Both have armored vehicules for disembarc, anti air systems, javlein or spike missiles, 3 disembarc batallions so they can put in the beach a total of 6 batallions...more or less with all units are 8000 marines.
Only nato certified expeditionary amphibious force Hmm yeah not true . Who do you think are the only nato partners that have been operating for the past 400 years together . And formed the back bone of Nato marines since 1949 .
Spain only joined the aliance in 1982 . So please explain why they are the only nato certified expeditionary force as every nato country must comply with nato standards . or higher , As spanish marine training is 26 weeks , royal marines 32-33 weeks Dutch marine corps 33 weeks . 2 of the longest basic trainings of any marine corps in Nato or the world .
