    i wanna thank you for this video. i just replaced my brakes on my 2017 passat r line this past weekend and so much of what you said and showed on this video made the process extremely simple. i've never changed brakes in my life so i was nervous going into the project but your video was the go to reference i needed. i'll be changing out my rear brakes this upcoming weekend and once again, i'll be watching your other video for that. awesome job, sir!!!!!

    My forte is vintage Detroit musclecars but the reality is that daily drivers are otherwise. So, I found your video extremely helpful when tackling a brake job on my wife’s 2016 Passat. However, as I dug into it I was surprised at how closely the Passat front disc system resembles the single-piston front disc brakes on my 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. So in the end the wrenching was pretty familiar. Amazing how the design and engineering has persisted for over half a century! Keep up the great work. Now I know where to turn when a VW maintenance issue arises. Regards, Jack

      Awesome comparison. Thank you. Yes disk brakes haven’t changed much. Same basic technology. Wrenching is about the same. I appreciate the comment. Yea I learned brakes on my 1978 z28 Camaro. I appreciate how thorough and meticulous your video was. Excellent tutorial. Getting ready to change my brake pads and rotors for the first time. The only time I got a little confused was when you were tightening the bolts with the 21mm, and you said to tighten them to 89 foot lbs. Can you explain that a little further? I'm a newbie and still learning all of the basics. Thank you so much!!

    • @grind-it-out
      @grind-it-out  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and the compliment 👍🏼. Well unless you have a torque wrench you won’t be able to tighten to exact tightness. 89 ft lbs is really tight. If you don’t have a torque wrench just tighten as tight as you can. It’s about the same as you would tighten your lug nuts on your wheels. The smaller guide pins are not near as tight. But those 21 mm bolts will be fine to tighten as tight as you can with human strength. That’s about as much as I know how to explain it. Also look up videos on tightening bolts using ft lbs. Thanks again good luck 👍🏼😎💯

    brakes started squealing at low speed only in last 2-3 weeks or so I think. Been researching that. A service at 1.5 months ago found brake pads were fine. So a bit confused. Heavy driving/touring in CA. Even though I have no plans (Nor ability) to actually change anything re: brakes myself...just watching your video is helpful for me to understand my passat (And brakes/rotors in general) Thanks!

    • @grind-it-out
      @grind-it-out  Год назад +1

      If the pads are fine your rotors are warped or have grooves in them. You want a smooth rotor or you will have vibration especially at higher speeds when stopping. Grooves in rotors will also cause noises like squealing.

      They usually only check the thickness of the pad when telling you the pads are fine. They don’t actually take them off and look closer. But look into ceramic pads. They are usually quieter than other pads. They aren’t much more expensive and they also don’t create as much brake dust 👍🏼

I have found conflicting information and was just curious as to what you torque yours to. 2. This is a totally different topic, but where did you get the headlight covers? Do you still have the information on them, and also did you install similar ones on your taillights? Thanks for the help!

The tail lights are VViViD hex light smoke tint. As far as the wheel torque specs… The one I use is 103 ft lbs. it really can change with wheel size. That’s just what I use. It’s best to go off the manual. But sometimes I find a sturdy part of the frame underneath the car. I’ll jack it up then get stands in the proper place according to the manual. I don’t have a manual so I just go off experience. Lol. But thanks for watching. Would you consider subscribing it really helps. Thanks so much 😊👍🏼

    Sorry man another question, I know the brake fluid cap was open, when pushing the calliper cylinder, do you need to open the the caliper value and second, once the brakes are on do you flush them?

      I know once the cap is open the fluid gets pushed back, but if I need to open the caliper value as well

      No need to flush the fluid. Only if dirty or needed. You did not loose any fluid unless you open the bleeder on the caliper or get new calipers. Appreciate the question. Thank you 👍🏼

    Hey do you put the e brake on or leave the car in park? I have a 2014 passat

    • @grind-it-out
      @grind-it-out  Год назад

      You can put the brake on but I just leave in park and chalk the wheels. For the rear brakes you can’t have the brake on. Rears are harder. Look at my rear brake video. Will you do me a fav and give the channel a subscribe. It really helps. Comment if any other questions thanks so much 😎👍🏼

    Is e brake on only for rear?

      Yes but when changing the rear it can’t be on. Only for the front.

    Isn't the brake parts grease designed not to damage rubber, and made with silicone grease anyway? You could I think use this and not need to buy extra silicone grease.

      You can use that. Anything that is silicone based will be fine. Not a problem. Thanks for watching the video. 👍🏼

    Do NOT put Loctite on any of your brake parts not even the bracket bolts
