This app just changed the game for me. Literally has EVERYTHING I needed AND I can sync it to my phone and study on the go without carrying my laptop...... I'm so excited to take notes all of a sudden. I wish I had this in first year.
I wish I had this when I was a student as well. Notions, Cornwell Note-taking and an overall new-found curiosity has made learning so fun I practically spend all my free time either in the gym or summarising data from the internet. In just 2 weeks I went from barely knowing how to add a table, now I got a journal, fitness journal, resonance calendar, financial overview, recipe data-base with grocery list. Next goal; figuring out how to create a proper data-bank. Game-changer for sure. It's ironic how at school we never learned how to take notes or organise our data, just year 1 of high school that could be such a valuable subject. I didn't hear about Cornwell until a week ago. Did start using the toggle function like crazy but for initial notes, it's amazing.
@Nate Fn This was a while ago ahah, but I assume I mean the 'raw' notes I take and later refine into more bite-size and question explaining answers. Toggle keeps it all organised and also allows me to read my notes with 'cheating' and first try to actively recall the answer, toggle open and see if I covered everything, toggle close. Keeping the raw notes is pointless but at the same time I do like being able to refer to them. Especially after a while to see how I first understood it wrong or what I didn't quite get.
@@heetzingsoon-2486 if you mean do i find it hard to find where I have written certain information, then no, because if you don't know the specific page then you can use the search tool to write a keyword and it will search every single page for that word and from there you can find the information you need.

@The Medical Enthusiast Thank you! :D Yes we do get lecture slides but I find them rather inadequate and just use them as guidelines. Usually, I will go to Google first before starting my revision to get the general rough ideas on particular topics. When he explained how to properly use cornell notes...I was mind blown! In my 2 years of education in the Philippines and 11 years in the United States, no teacher has been able to properly explain how to use cornell notes. I do enjoy Notion quite a bit, the nested look of everything is so clean and you don't have to stop to select all of the features--you can use shortcuts as you go for just about every single font color, quotation, callout, toggle, etc. The only downside is the lack of support for handwriting, so I'm still split between OneNote and Notion. Hey for the retrospective revision time table you can color the dates like in your google sheets table! Mark the text and press ctrl+shift+h and then it colors. A context menu will pop up and you can even choose the background color so the whole cell colors red, yellow or green if you like
Where have you been all my life? I have ADHD and trying to retain new information in nursing school has been VERY HARD. Keep the tips coming. Please!!!!!
I’m going back to school and when I went to college the first time, WiFi was new, social media was new, Google and RUclips were new, laptops were fairly new, iPods were new and iPhones hadn’t been invented yet, and I’m watching RUclips videos now to help me learn and study and people have videos about Khan Academy and Anki and Notion and they use iPads and it’s amazing. We didn’t have those resources and I would get distracted procrastinating partly because I was using a laptop on WiFi exploring Facebook, Google, Wikipedia, and RUclips as a new thing. Y’all have digital notecards and can look at PowerPoint slides as screenshots and write notes over them. You can submit papers without printing them and turning them in. Amazing.
Onenote has had that toggle feature for over a decade. You just have to tab over, then double click the grey arrow that shows up to the left of the main heading. This will make a + sign that hides the subheadings or bullets that are under this main heading. It is actually one of the main things that I use to quiz myself.
this video literally changed my perspective TOTALLY i already knew about the cornell mote taking system, the active recall and the curve of forgetting but i never actually used them + i never thought about the fact that i could apply them to my notion! thank you very much, this really helped
Wow, I've been taking notes ineffectively my whole life. As a new grad student, this video is super duper helpful and puts me as ease. I was overwhelmed with how much information given in lectures and readings. This simplifies the process. Thank you for the quality, easy to understand content, Notion is the future!
Thank you so much! This has changed the whole way I make notes!!!! I can’t believe I never knew this. Thank you. I’ve gone from taking two hours in taking lectures notes to literally an hour to half an hour! Plus I’ve gone digital all thanks to you and Notion. 😊
Don’t know if you’ll get to see this, but thank you so much for all the work you put in to these videos! I am a nursing student in the US and you motivate me to learn my material well and to study hard (with the sweet reminder to stay healthy and enjoy life at the end of this video)! I switched to Notion after finding your videos and when I showed it to a classmate, she lost her mind haha. I really appreciate your work, Ali! Looking forward to more content!
I work in IT and I have to spend around 10 hours a week studying to keep current (thankfully my company pays for my training portal!), I've re-thought my methodology to be more academic based and used a mix of notion & anky flash cards to learn concepts, theory and new techniques. Thanks for the tips Ali, much appreciated.
I love how the notification for this video came onto my screen while I was typing up my questions on notion. I've been using it for a few months now and this video was great help! But I noticed that as a first year med student, having to write the questions and all their answers is very time consuming and has me constantly worried that I could be spending the time I type the answers doing other things. So I have been trying out just typing the questions for subjects that have good books or lecture notes where I can just go back to the book if i cant remember an answer. I don't know how well that would work but I'm trying it out. always a pleasure to watch your videos man and thank you for the constant motivation.
Ali has another video (Active Recall Framework) talking about a method like this, where you just write questions without the answers and then look through your lecture notes if you forget an answer. Hopefully it works out for you.
I've seen this dude before a couple months ago, and I never watched his videos but I thought he looked snarky or arrogant. But dude this guy's recommendations for spaced repetition and active recall is something that I am really enjoying. School starts in a few weeks and I've already started to develop my notion and use the "Google sheets" method for planning for an exam. You're dope Ali.
when I watch your video I give up evernote and move to Notion. It's amazing ...... As an Advocate of The Supreme Court of Bangladesh, I am putting all my case references in notin and it's working like a database of my all case references. It is like magic to me.. I can search for case references and make decisions more effectively.. Thanks a lot bro.....Notion is a game-changing apps ...
Hi Ali, not sure if you’ll read this, but I absolutely love the table where you had all the relations and essays showing up that’s related to the specific topics. I was wondering if you could upload a template version or make a tutorial video on how you did this? Thank you 😊
It's funny.. I've just read the book "a mind for numbers" (which I would HIGHLY recommend to everyone if you're interested in gettinng more insight for learning methods), and shortly after, Ali and his videos just pops up as something to compliment it, which just means the world to me. I wish that I had contained this knowledge before hand, but I'm so happy that reading up on these methods, have not just made me feel more prepared, but also reduced my anxiety. The book itself has such a good structure, and is perfect to practice its own methods on. Learning has become not just less time consuming, but also more fun and rewarding. Having ADHD myself, I've always beat myself up because I thought I could not recall things I read and take notes off. But listen to the methods Ali suggest- they work really well on memory AND your understanding of a subject. It has been a game changer for me, and I just wanted to share my thoughts on this to tell others who struggles with Attentive disorders or something similar - There is hope for improvement - Nothing can stand in your way.
Pls do a video on how to write a first/high first level exam essay, I know you did a how to memorise essay plans for exams but I’d love to see how you actually structured those essay plans and the research/study process behind them
Your passion for teaching others is such a gift - I think you could teach how to dig a hole and have people excited to dig that hole with you.... I was excited to pass this info onto my sister who is currently studying at Uni - thanks Ali 👍👍🤓

Been working a lot recently on transferring my notes to Notion and have seen a great improvement on my overall organization. Definitely beats having 6 different files in different places when studying for tests!
I'm going back to uni next month after 6 years not studying, these videos are giving me some brilliant ideas on how I can make the best out of my time there. THANK YOU!
Thank you Ali for all the time and effort you put into these videos. I introduced my brother to your channel and we’ve been building out our notion databases together. Along with applying your study methods to help us progress in our careers. Thank you so much!
I'm new to Notion and came here for an overview; thanks to Ali for providing one. What Ali calls "togging" here-"the single best thing about Notion"-is called "folding" of an outline. Lots of outliner apps support folding (OmniOutliner is a well-known one among Mac users), and some text editors have plug-ins or extensions that provide it. The "game changing" capability of being able to move part of the hierarchical document into a node of the outline has been supported by outliner apps for a *long* time. I liked the idea of integrating the Cornell approach into an outliner. That technique could be used with any outliner, so it's a tip with much broader applicability than just to Notion. From what I see here, what seems to me to be the game-changing aspect of Notion is combining capabilities of an outliner, a spreadsheet/database app, and a Wiki (i.e., a mini-web of diverse linked content) in one unified environment that also supports metadata ("properties"). It seems to me to be about synergy-no offering the most capable outliner, or spreadsheet, or Wiki, etc., but offering *just enough* in each category to make the combined tool greater than the sum of its parts.
Thank you so much! I have ADHD and I love the Cornell Note taking system, but I feel bad when I throw away my study books. I get Leuchturm notebooks. They work perfectly, but this seems like it will be super helpful. Thank you for sharing your talents, and what you have learned that helps you.
I mean when it comes to the app, I find it working so slooow on Android (and all my other apps move damn fast). With Evernote - no issue whatsoever. Great content overall, tho'!
Also a medic recently discovered notion! Thank you for this really relevant and useful video 😊 Could you please provide a few templates of the main pages you use?
It has a ton of incredible use cases. We've even started to embed all our meeting recordings directly in Notion for full transparency and as a single source of truth for the entire company! tldv for Zoom recordings (or Loom) work like a charm with the best app of the world
I've found this so helpful and I'm now using Notion for Uni, Work and personal work goals I want to achieve. Thank you for all the videos like this they really help! Just one note on how my experience in studying relates to some things you said here - I never tested myself when studying and always just wrote notes and mind maps etc. and this was simply because I was scared I would get everything wrong. If I were to get things wrong whilst learning and studying I would feel useless and panic that I would never be able to learn anything, so basically didn't allow myself the chance to start progressing because I thought I had to know it all straight away. This might be a good topic to speak on, because I think apprehension and the feeling that you have to be the best and understand everything straight away can be the biggest hindrance to learning. I think it needs to be taught more in schools etc that the whole point is that you won't get everything right at the beginning and that's ok, and not to be discouraged by it, just keep testing yourself and you'll become a pro. Thanks for helping me realise this!

Sir literally I was overwhelmed I have test on next week my institute have given 200 essay questions I was thinking how can I take hand made notes then when will I study these essays.😟.but am really blessed to watch ur notion note making app at right time Thank u sir😍 Life changer
yeah just practice but make sure it's interleaved (mixing up questions). So have like a word problem question, and then switch up with some question where you have to do formulaic work. Most study guides batch problems into sections, which is less effective than interleaving.

Hey for the retrospective revision time table you can color the dates like in your google sheets table! Mark the text and press ctrl+shift+h and then it colors. A context menu will pop up and you can even choose the background color so the whole cell colors red, yellow or green if you like
Well now I watched the complete video and Stars are also great
@@cubernetes do you know how he's able to add those icons to his table? I can't seem to add it.

Ali I used your active recall method for my GCSE mocks and I got all 9s (high A*s) literally all because of simple question and answer so thankyou!!
How do you use active recall please guide me
Ali makes me realize I wasted my college years on poor studying strategies
I feel the same.

Ali: actually useful information + no wasting time + well structured
It is actually one of the main things that I use to quiz myself.
hey, do you mind expanding a little? i tried and not getting the result desired. Thanks!
this video literally changed my perspective TOTALLY
i already knew about the cornell mote taking system, the active recall and the curve of forgetting but i never actually used them + i never thought about the fact that i could apply them to my notion!
thank you very much, this really helped
Hussain Memon thank you dude!
I'M A FIRST YEAR MED STUDENT AND I WAS STRUGGLING IN NOTE TAKING THANK YOU
when I watch your video I give up evernote and move to Notion.
Thank you 😊
Incorporating active recall into note-taking in this way is absolutely brilliant and easy to implement, thank you so much

Found you on Matt`s inner circle. I'm not on uni anymore, but your content has helped me so much to regain focus and motivation with a really hard project at work. Thank you so much. :) Wish you the best!
I bet his students are the luckiest ones and I would want a teacher like him because he teaches and explains so well and I never feel like skipping even 5 seconds of the video
I found this channel only a few days ago and I've watched every possible video.
Awesome. Why didn't i find it sooner ?
Does it help u? Like notion and active recall?
Thank you so much! I have ADHD and I love the Cornell Note taking system, but I feel bad when I throw away my study books. I get Leuchturm notebooks. They work perfectly, but this seems like it will be super helpful. Thank you for sharing your talents, and what you have learned that helps you.
I mean when it comes to the app, I find it working so slooow on Android (and all my other apps move damn fast).
With Evernote - no issue whatsoever.
Great content overall, tho'!
It’s crazy how school doesn’t teach you how to learn. Thank god for Ali
Am I the only one who noticed him taking notes of 50 shades of grey hahaha. Good video, great sense of humor.
Your parents would be so proud if they saw how humbly you are contributing to the youth!!!!
Notion is now free ❤️!
did i just daydream about all the ways im going to be using notion for this upcoming term? yes, yes i very much did 🥰
How are you going to use it? ^^
I'm still unsure whether it's worth the time 😅
Also a medic recently discovered notion! Thank you for this really relevant and useful video 😊 Could you please provide a few templates of the main pages you use?
i'm new to your channel and the fact that you were taking notes from fifty shades of grey amazes me
Can we actually see the notes you made from Fifty shades of grey? 👀
Ali there being dead serious taking notes on Fifty Shades made my life hahaha
It has a ton of incredible use cases. We've even started to embed all our meeting recordings directly in Notion for full transparency and as a single source of truth for the entire company! tldv for Zoom recordings (or Loom) work like a charm with the best app of the world
Talk about writing an essay for different types of assignments I.e. structure, reports etc. Referencing styles

I'm in my 3rd year of college studying education, and honestly I can't really say much about it because I have been more focused and stuck on the "basics". Regardless, I hope to finish and be able to learn and remember everything I get taught.
I'm going to stick around because I definitely found the place where I can learn to be better for myself
Damn that keyboard is phenomenal.
I evolved your method on the Resonance Calendar that I call Key Takeaways.. .
Lol. I can totally relate when you said endless horizontal notes when using One Note. It is so true in my experience.
Yes I already downloaded the Notion apps. Planning to learn n play around with it, I really like the toggle feature like you mentioned here.
Hopefully I can stick with it for almost every my every needs
Hey Ali, how do you use Notion with Notability? I like to take notes handwritten on notability and GoodNotes, but I like the structure of Notion a lot. I know that you use a combo of these two, and I wanted to understand how you do so.
TheLightParadox you can export notability as a pdf and put the pdf into notion

Sir literally I was overwhelmed I have test on next week my institute have given 200 essay questions I was thinking how can I take hand made notes then when will I study these essays.😟.but am really blessed to watch ur notion note making app at right time
Thank u sir😍
Life changer
No joke, I laughed out loud when I saw Ron's description hahahah!
I am doing spaced repetition on Ali's videos. Repeatedly watching it to keep it in memory. You must be proud of me Ali
Hey Ali, could you give any tips on self-learning new content quickly in subjects such as math which require more practice?
Yeah, I second that
+
Practice. That’s the only way you can do. Using notion won’t really help. I guess you can just practice and practice and practice until you get it.
yeah just practice but make sure it's interleaved (mixing up questions). So have like a word problem question, and then switch up with some question where you have to do formulaic work. Most study guides batch problems into sections, which is less effective than interleaving.
Thank you Ali ^^ As a homeschooler self studying most of the time, this notion app is really helpful. I thought Anki was the only solution but I realized I must have somewhere where I can store all relevant information. This notion app is so good! Aiming to be a cardiologist! Thank you Ali!
Drinking game: take a shot every time Ali says "toggle"
I drank so much I couldn’t count
Can't thank you enough for taking the time to teach on how you manage your daily work load. SUPER helpful 🙏🏼
I purchased make it stick on your recommendation. It's certainly an eye opener and look forward to putting it in to practice.
Notion is so damn good...it's insane how capable it is and more so how intuitive it is.

Downloaded notion, had no idea how to use it , googled it and this video popped up , I’m really considering it looks like it has a lot of potential
Hey Ali, can you make a video on Notion for iPad? I feel like it is way more limited that the desktop app. Thanks in advance
