They move fast. They finished corn on 9/21 and started disking on 9/21. There was a 9 day rain delay so they have to cover ground as fast as possible to get the seeders in the field.
Good to see U.S. farmers still working to make a difference against crops brought in from overseas. Thanks for going out to bring us the videos of awsome farm equipment in action
Yeah I like that operator I'll see him in a combine sometime with you all on the big tractors I'm from south Louisiana we got a lot of rice over here if y'all ever need a hand let me know
Thanks BTP. The Wishek videos are my favourites. The up close of soil surface is great too. Here in Australia most offsets are scalloped not plain, why do the prefer plain disc?

I am 100% certain they are 9420Rs. I spend all year following these tractors up close. Is there any reason that you believe I would miss represent a model number? I will say I would love to see a 9370R or the older 9360R as they are in the rare side. 9420Rs are pretty common so if I found an entry level 9R I would be very excited to see it and share it.
The farm only had 3 26ft disks so only three 9420Rs disk. The farm uses four 9420Rs to run the Kinze grain carts and to rip ground after soybean harvest. The tractors are traded each spring. When the trade is made one machine is carried over to run 5 Kinze 24 row corn planters. For example in March 2018 to plant corn the farm had four 2018 9420Rs and one 2017 model. When corn planting is done the one 2017 9420R heads to the dealer.
@@bigtractorpower Unless you are in Europe. Almost all farms where Im from still plow their fields, though that also because its the best way to incorporate manure
There are some large farms from 50,000 to 30,000 acres. Several in the 15,000 to 10,000 acre range as well. There is a crop advantage in WKY that helps farms. #1 is the ability to crop half the farm with two crops in one season with wheat and soybeans. So if you have 1,000 acres of wheat ground as soon as the wheat is harvested you plant soybeans behind the combine and gain 1,000 acres of soybeans. So if you have 2,000 acres of ground with half in corn and the other half in wheat/soybeans you are cropping 3,000 acres in a year. #2 many of these farms raise tobacco. 1 acre of tobacco is equal to 100 acres of corn.
The farm has a 1,000 acre field that is pretty swampy. In the fall of 2000 it was extra wet and they demoed a Case IH 9380 Quadtrac. The farm purchased a 2001 Case STX440 after the demo. In 2004 the STX440 was traded for a John Deere 9620T. The farm did not like the ride of the 9620T. In 2006 the 9620T was traded for a Challenger MT865B. The farmer has been the operator of all these track tractors. He really liked the MT865B. The GPS screen has grid lines marked on the screen for the distance you set, there is a grid line and all the driver has to do is turn and follow the line and that will be 26 feet from the next line, the tractor following sees the same lines.
You tell the display that the implement is 26 feet wide and it does the math to figure out the lines. The driver just needs to be within 13 feet and the tractor does the rest.

This field was harvested in mid August. Temperatures remain in the 80’s and 90’s here in Kentucky through late October when many area ate just getting into corn harvest good. In many areas corn is harvested after frost so you never see the lost corn sprout. The volunteer corn is a big sign of combine loss and the weather in Western Kentucky allows the loss to be very visible. All farms corn fields in the region look this way by early October regardless of combine brand. All combines lose some grain and if the weather is warm enough the loss will show up with a volunteer crop. If the weather is cold at harvest you will never see the re-growth and it all looks perfect.

I think because of the line stone we have in the area the smooth disk blade rolls over the stone better.
Another advantage to double crop beans after wheat is the stubble forces the beans to grow taller and therefore make more beans.

Is there a way to determine the drawbar force the Deere is making to pull that disk? Sounds like she's working hard!

So do they. Big advantage.

Do they trade all tractors/equipment every year?

How come they don't pull rolling baskets behind the disk?
The harrow works better behind this heavy duty primary tillage disk. If it was a smaller disk with a 20 inch blade a rolling basket would work.
Nice watch big toys work
Thank you for watching.
Why not connect the harrow right behind the disks? Save (1) tractor pass, rough ride and a ton of fuel...
Disks aren't set up for it most of the time
there was probably 1 mule for every man, woman, and child in western Kentucky at some point in time.
Probably more than that. I often think about how these fields were farmed a 100 plus years ago as I am waiting around for the next tractor pass.

Not that I know of. They really like the Wisheks.
Whatever happened to the articulated tractors pulling the choppers?
I am working on more detail and history on 4wds pulling choppers. The video will be posted in a month or so.
It’s okay thank you
Hi nice video
How many acres where they preparing for winter wheat with the three 9420 john deere. Gary Spoltman - 10-07-2019
The farm seeded 11,000 of wheat. The three 9420R tractors disked some and 4 620 hp tractors disked some of the ground with 34 disks.

Why don't they run the scalloped disc blades on the harrows
There are stones and I think the blades they have work well for rocks.
Do most farms tillage now instead of plowing?
Heavy duty disks and mulch rippers do most of the tillage these days. Moldboard plows are still produced but are not a common sight in most areas.

How many pounds of wheat do they put to the acre
