Is it.. plug and play when it comes to Smart phone?
I've tested it with a Samsung galaxy and it works fine. Haven't tested on iPhone yet. Annoying lightning cable...
Similar speeds to what you see in the video. Different story for the T7
Ah I get you now. Yes, the speed on a gen 1 port will be slower. Approx 100mbps slower
I was also referring to the type C 3.1 gen 1 port. The 450 mbps seem right
Thank you Patrick! New sub here, best review ever! Getting a T7.
Hey man! Thanks so much for the kind words :) Let me know how you like the T7 👍
finally a good recomendation from youtube. You, good sir, have me subscribed
Thanks man! I appreciate it :)
I can't watch at the moment, but I have been eyeing some SSDs to store my videos. I will definitely come back in a bit to learn - Thank You for the video, Patrick!
Awesome! Can't wait to hear your thoughts
your video helped me in selecting an SDD, I am searching on amazon for 2hrs for an SDD & I can't decide which one to buy. Thanks for the video.
Hey man, thanks a lot for the kind words. I'm glad it was useful to you!
Finally a detailed description and review I was actually looking at these three comparisons thanks!
Thanks! Glad it was useful.
Man! Thanks a lot for the informative review and clear recommendation. This is so helpful!

It’s amazing how your videos improved so much in just 5 months. Great job.
the quality is amazing!
Thank you Oleta.
Thanks for a balance review about the Samsung T7. I'm considering upgrading to SSD drive and your review has helped
Thank you Terrence, I appreciate you taking the time to let me know :)
Best comparison video so far! Love the details. I'm getting the T7. Thank you! 😊

Thank you, I appreciate that :)
Thank you for this comparison! Just subbed 👍
Thanks man! Appreciate it :)
great video exactly the information i was looking for thanks man!
Thanks for the kind words!
Good video. Thx for running all 3 drives I was looking at against each other. Looks like im going w the T7.
Thanks man! Good choice 👌
Thank you Patrick, you have clearly explained the difference Of T5 and T7. I had no idea about the T7 until I looked at your video. Cheers !!
Hi Patricia, I'm glad it was useful! Thanks for the comment :)
Nice Video! It answered all my questions perfectly. You covered everything. :)
Thanks! I appreciate that and glad it was helpful :)
Just got me the Samsung T5 last week. Just for saving media and documents from my Samsung Note 10 and Samsung tablet 5se. The T7 is indeed fast, still very happy with T5. Thanks reviewing, was helpfull! 👍🏼
Hi Rutger, yeah the T5 is still an excellent drive. Besides, is the usb C Port on the Note 10 a 3.1gen 2? (could be, I'm not sure). If it's not, then the speeds of the T7 will probably not be that much higher for that kind of usage. T5 is fine!
Would love to see an updated video against the SanDisk extreme pro nvme.
Great idea!
Thank you so much for this video. EXACTLY what I needed. I edit all my videos on my iPad Pro (2018) and I'm running out of space as all us RUclipsrs do! Will be getting the T7 for backing up my videos. Love from India.
Thanks man! Glad it was useful to you 🙂
@@PatrickRambles Just a quick question,it’ll be compatible with the iPad Pro,right?
Definitely. You just can't edit straight off the drive.
@@PatrickRambles Ah great! Thank you so much 🙏🏼
👊
Excellent video Patrick!!!! Thanks for the complete info
Hi Rodrigo! Glad it was useful :)
Thank you so much. I was very much confused over Samsung T7 and Sandisk drive. This video solves my problem completely. Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad it was useful.
@@PatrickRambles It was surely very helpful. I am new to Mac and such kind of videos help a lot!
Thank you for the insight, Patrick. I just ordered a Samsung T7. 🙂
Nice! Let me know how you like it :)
@@PatrickRambles It is perfect for my needs and it is so small!
3 videos in one week! YAY!
Yay!!!!
Very informative. Cheers and thanks from Sweden!
Thanks for the kind words!
Such an amazing video so informative. Thank you so much! Buying both t5 and T7 🤩😄😄
Thanks Natasha!
Since all these external SSDs are dramless, I also expected to see a sustained write test to see how speeds are when the SLC cache is filled up. The write test with a 25,900 MB file copy at 6:57 is a comparison, which finished in 1 minute 4 seconds (64 seconds) for the T7, resulting in a 404 MB/s overall write speed (25900/64). This drop is similar to the desktop side of dramless SSDs like the Samsung 980, which is advertised as upto 3500 MB/s, but the write speed there also drops down to 460 MB/s when the cache is filled.
Got all the info I needed to make a decision between Sandisk Extreme and the T7, nice review :)
Thanks for sharing!
"Since all these external SSDs are dramless".
I don 't think that's accurate - This spreadsheet that I got off reddit shows , for instance, that the T5 has dram but the T7 doesnt. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B27_j9NDPU3cNlj2HKcrfpJKHkOf-Oi1DbuuQva2gT4/edit?pli=1#gid=0
Thank you, I just bought a 2TB T7 for work. I ll get the Sandisk for camping trips because of its rigid design.
Nice! Best of both worlds :)
Thank you Patrick, i was exactly looking for something like this since I’m deciding which one get.
Hey Balmory! I'm glad it was useful :) I'll do a follow up soon with even faster cards.
@@PatrickRambles thanks for answering. I am actually talking to my wife about the video and the 2 options I love. Sandisk and T7. The thing is that Sandisk is 229 2tb and T7 is 329 but the extra layer of security is great. Do you know if t7 is waterproof too? Thank 🙌🏼
The SanDisk is definitely more rugged. It's not totally waterproof but splash resistant for sure. On the other hand, the T7 is significantly faster if the ports on your machine allow the full speed. But those Samsung drives can take a bit of a beating as well. You can encrypt the SanDisk as well if security is what you want. So if I had to choose, I'd go for the T7 but that's because I work with large files and need the speed.
@@PatrickRambles Thanks again. I just ordered the t7 2tb No fingerprint ID, was hard to decide because I loved the fingerprint option but honestly I rarely used fingerprint unblocked on my older Iphone 8, plus it was 80 bucks cheaper 😅, but thanks to you I was able to take a decision. I’ll be looking forward to watching more of your videos 🙌🏼
Thanks man! Glad I could help and let me know how you like it 💪
Thanks ..very good and straightforward demo..
Great video!
I might get a T5 on Black Friday if that new iPad Air doesn’t eat up everything I have saved up! 👀
The T5 is still an amazing drive and there will be great deals.
It a well made video, really loved it.
Thanks buddy!
This is well organized and helpful thank you!
Thanks! Glad it was useful :)
Very informative and made my decision simple. Thanks!
Thanks! I'm glad it was helpful
Nice comparison! That T7 looks killer - I like that it has a fingerprint scanner for an added layer of security 🔥
Yeah that's a nifty feature. But the speed is just insane!
@@PatrickRambles I got the T7 without the fingerprint scanner. If you have it with you, is the security really useful?
Very informative, very much I appreciate your information.
Question: why do RUclips content creators think it is necessary playing music over their voice? Important, we came to hear you not background noise. Many folks have hearing difficulties, thus background music/noise quickly becomes extremely annoying, and a distribution from what you are saying.
Hi Ric, thank you for your comment and input. Personally I believe some music can add a nice touch. However, in this particular video the music was too loud, as some other viewers had also commented. I'll definitely take that into consideration for future videos. Thanks again!
I play music in my background to hide and cover up background noises. It's easier to play music versus get a soundproof environment
Nice video Patrick! it would be cool to have a real-life comparison between the T5 and the T7 in final cut editing for example
thanks! Good idea :)
Great video man, just bought the macbook pro with m1 and definitely going to need more storage 👍new sub right here!
Nice!! External storage works great with Macs 👍
I like your video and the comparisons you made. Can you dive a little deeper on the T7 Drives? Mainly, the amount of heat they produce. I would assume that it consumes more power and will shorten your battery life on the laptop. Do the drives heat up when plugged in, or only when being used ? I would think that the heat would shorten the life of the drive too. Also, to get the full speed of the T7 drives, you need to have a computer that supports the USB Gen 2 version. For those reasons, I think I will stick with the T5 to save on cost, battery life, drive life. What are your thoughts? Where do recommend purchasing the drive from? Amazon or other?
Hey David, yes the T7 gets hot when plugged in and hotter when used. This hasn't caused any issues for me. I couldn't tell you how it affects the battery life because my MacBook hasn't left my desk for quite some time now :). You do need a gen 2 port to get max speeds, but the price difference between the T5 and T7 is often so small that I'd still go for the T7 just to be future proof. I order most of my things from Amazon. I guess just check where you find the best price.
If the Samsung T7 was as waterproof and drop-proof as the Sandisk Extreme that would be the best model around. It looks like I will be getting the non-touch version of the T7. Thanks for the video
That would be amazing indeed. Thanks!
Great job 👏 loved the review, going for the T7 and T5
Thanks Alberto! Both are excellent drives, worth their money 👌
Great video.Very helpful.Explain everything.
Thank you.
Thank you as well :)
It would have been a nice addition to this video to see some real life speeds when hooked up to an older machine with usb3.0 only. Would the connection type be the bottle neck, hence giving all the drives similar speeds or would there still be a significant difference between them?
Hi Hannes, yeah that would have been nice. Sadly, I don't own an older machine :). However, theoretically the speeds of the T7 should still be higher, they just won't reach peak performance.
Excellent video sir. You've just gained a subscriber.
Hey Muntaz, thanks, I appreciate that :)
excellent video. Nice production too.
Thank you :)
Oh. I haven’t watched the vid yet, but I remember these ssd’s from ur other vid.
Yep, I figured it was worth a full comparison!
Patrick Rambles it definitely is. Lol
Great Video - question did it help with the large 4k files for editing? I am in the same boat with the large files of the Sony a7Siii want to know if it will choke on the files?
Hey man! A7Siii , sweet camera! Yeah the T7 can handle just fine :)
@@PatrickRambles awesome thanks. So glad you did this video to let us know.
I appreciate that man!
Thank you so much! Super informative!
🙌🙌
thanks man very precise and to the point!
Thank you!
I recently purchased the T7 2TB. I like what I'm seeing so far. Just literally picked it up yesterday. Coming from a 2 TB sata WD Portable HDD.💀
Oh man, it will be so much faster! Nice upgrade
@@PatrickRambles such a huge difference. Great channel by the way✊🏽
Thanks man, I appreciate it!
Oh, and the speed of that T7 is insane 🔥🔥🔥
Yessss
@@PatrickRambles as far as I know it is not really faster. Rather, it uses technology to its advantage, achieving its speed with a creative use of the buffering system (I may be wrong as to the exact methodology). For most users, this is irrelevant. But for writing video to it, the T7 quickly becomes slower (and therefore unusable) than the T5.
Hi Ken, the T7 is much faster than the T5. It does lose a bit of speed when it gets hot but even then it's faster.
@@PatrickRambles hey Patrick, thanks for the quick reply. I don’t think you understand me though: I wasn’t asking, I was telling you. I own both. I am strictly referring to writing video directly to the disk (not editing). The T7 can’t handle it. The T5 can.
Just a little buyer beware for the minority of users who buy it with that purpose in mind (I managed to snatch one of the remaining T5 which have been selling out after people found out about this.)
Very nice video~! clear and helps a lot! thanks
I think I will go for the T7
Thanks! The T7 is a solid drive 👌 (see what I did there?)
Great channel and great video - love it brother subbed. I was looking for a hard drive for my show and you had the prefect video!!! THANKS!!!!
Thanks a lot man! Appreciate the kind words :)
@@PatrickRambles RUclips community has to stick together - keep rocking those videos - helped me!

@@PatrickRambles Thanks brother grinding it - but having fun :)
Bro, check the samsung X5, though more expensive it is fast. I mean very very fast.
I know! I might to a follow up video with all the fastest drives. Some of you guys have shown an interest in this :)
It’s important to note that the T5 (and the Sandisk extreme) has a dram chip whereas the T7 is dramless.
@@punctdan No advantage (if anything it’s a disadvantage). Having dram increases longevity and performance.
Love the content!
Thanks !
Thank you. I will check out the T7, I like the speed and extra layer of security
Dude, awesome video man. Just wished that the sound is abit better.
Hey man, thanks! The music on this is a little too loud. Sadly there is no way of fixing this once it's uploaded. Glad you liked it regardless :)
great review,Thanks mate, got in mind with the t7

A newbie question..
Is SSD much more RELIABLE than HDD... besides the SPEED difference?
Need one to store valuable videos & pictures only.
Yes. Mostly because there are no moving parts in an SSD (Solid State). SSDs can fail as well but they have a very long life span under normal circumstances.
Thanks. Just upgraded to the M1 Mac Mini and was exploring SSD options. This video was the most helpful. It was also very clear and concise. But reviews I’ve also talk about how hot it gets while the T5 doesn’t. What do you think of the SAMSUNG X5 Portable SSD 2TB - Up to 2800MB/s -Thunderbolt 3 NVMe External Solid State Drive?
Hey man! Thanks a lot, I appreciate that :)
Thanks, Very Educative Information!
Hi Niren, glad it was helpful! Check out my follow up video, comparing the T7 with the X5, Sandisk Extreme Pro V2 and Lacie Rugged Pro, if you're interested.

Thanks for this! I bought a lower storage M1 MacBook Air (already have a MBP and iMac but wanted to test the new M1 chip and wanted a bit more portability) because I use external storage and the cloud and wanted to see a review on this new drive. Sold on it!!
Hi Kristy, glad it was useful! How are you liking the M1 chip so far?
@@PatrickRambles I like it so far! I can’t wait to see what more they do with it and if there is an eventual iMac or higher end MBP with it on there. Hoping for maybe a 16” MBP at some point with it for when I decide to upgrade my 2017 MBP (which still works amazing!)
Really Nice Work Mate 😄❤️
Thanks :)

@@PatrickRambles I have a question, do the T5 and Sandisk offer password protection?
Clear, precise, well done even for a non techie to understand. (Photo hobbyist here.)
Thanks Barry, much appreciated!
Great video!
Thanks!
Very good explanation...
After watching this video I compared my T7 and Sandisk extreme(both the 1050mb/s transfer rate) on my brand new 14” M1 MacBook and the T7 is twice as fast as the Sandisk.
I’m sending back the Sandisk I bought on eBay and getting another T7 and yes I agree having a blinky light is nice
Haha blinky lights ftw
