A Deckpod for the Tiki 31

- In this episode i started to build a deckpod for the Tiki 31. It will sit between the 1st and 2nd beam. The size is approx. 1,80 x 1,80 meter, the height about 1,6 meter. It should be possible for 4 people to sit around a table or for 2 adults to sleep in a double bunk when the table is lowered.
For every catamaran: lighter sails better. But every design also has a calculated carrying capacity. I guess for your Tiki ot is about a thousand kilo. That includes everthing on board: people, motor, anchorgear fuels and water, tools and toys, added constructions and overbuild parts of the original. But as you said: it all depends on how you use it.,… success, it is very beautiful 👍👍
Use peel ply to save sanding. Good Job. Keep posting.
It looks beautiful. Don’t underestimate the extra windvang and what it effects your ability to go on the motor against the wind. Imagine two square meters of board pushing against the wind.
Actually i am more concerned about the extra weight in the front of the boat.... but yes, it ads some windage. But i am not so worried about that, since i avoid it anyway to sail longer legs against the wind - i prefer it to wait for a favorable wind. It may ad some more stress to the anchor - it would be interesting to make a calculation on how it really affects the handling ability of the boat.... thanks for your comment and fair winds.
Excellent.
That will eat your payload. Foam sandwich would have been better and insulated.
But a Woods Gypsy 28 would have been better yet. 😃
WOAH, this is great work
Really glad to see this video come up on RUclips. I only discovered your channel yesterday. Pod looks really good.
Thank you for the comment. It really took me some time to come up with an idea how to redesign the tiki 31. And i hope it turns out nice in the end.
Interesting, I can find very little information on the Tiki 31, thank you :)
Good work Robert - I look forward to the next video. Best wishes Dave
Hey Dave, thank you for the feedback.
Beautiful work, Looking forwards to seeing the progress. I'm in the same position with my Tiki 26 and thinking of building a pod.
I have seen a Tiki 26 with a Pod - gives you good shelter and protects you from spray.
It's a good idea. If you edited out the hoist it would look like you were superman flipping that pod over. I will look for the finished boat video.
Love your cabin handling gantry 😂 send Mark on Wilding sailing a link to your build he’s rescuing a Pahi 42 Mahi in the Netherlands at the moment he’s got just a bare temporary deck.
Thanks. I think a Pahi 42 will make a excellent cruising boat.
Love your pod , so much room ! How much weight does it add to the boat ?
I estimate the extra weight at about 100 kg - empty. The problem is: it has a lot of storage room inside. And as we all know - this room will be used sooner or later.
Is your Pod based on the one for the Tiki 30?
It´s not based on the one for the Tiki 30, but influenced. Befor i started i looked at every possible solution for a Pod i could find on the web. And given the available space (between 1st and 2nd beam) and the design requirements (sleep two people and sit four) it tourned out like this.
Cuanto pesa?
Approx. 150kg
Is the weight no problem?
Weight on this boats is always a problem. The pod will be about 100kg more then the original configuration. I think the real problem is the lot of storage room in the pod... but since the pod is a seperate unit it is easy to remove and put back the original deck if it proves to heavy...
