A similar situation happened in 2016 when a New Zealander tried to visit Kazakhstan and was accused of not being from a real country. To make matters worse, the map that border security provided was one that New Zealand hadn't been included on.

I'm Kurdish from Northern Iraq and have spent just over half of my life in Italy. Both of my parents teach surgical techniques so I regrettably had to spent 3 years in an English school in the heart of Kent, England. The utter mind boggling gibberish similar to this uttered not only by the English kids but teachers too during those 3 years - well I could actually fill a good sized book with. The bit at the end when he tries to play down his mistake and almost judge her for being angry was what I went through on so many occasions. They make woefully ignorant remarks, and do so time and time again and then when you react post not being able to take it anymore, they'll judge you for overreacting or lashing out.
One kid spent spent my entire first term making remarks like 'dirty Arab' (Told him many times that A. I'm not Arab and B. that's offensive), 'I bet you lived in tents before coming to the UK' (our house in Iraq is more like mansion) and then to top it off, he used to change the lyrics of the popular Christmas song and sing 'I'm dreaming of a white Britain, like the one I used to know' in front of the entire class with the teacher sat there not doing a thing. So when I challenged him to a fight after school and gave him a nosebleed, he got his parents to make a complaint and I got suspended for 2 days. I begged my parents to take us back to Italy as I just couldn't take it anymore. Even today, I feel so bitter that my childhood innocence was denigrated and stolen during those 3 years. I didn't even know what racism, acts of alienation and bullying was until after I left that school and began opening up and looking back. I'd grown up in the north of Iraq with Kurds, Turkmen, Assyrian as well as Arab kids. Not once did someone teach me to judge others on the basis of their nationality, how dark their hair was or how long their nose looked. Children have ignorance taught into them. Before I went to that school, I wouldn't have even known what bullying meant.

I've never really taken stock of what most people think. For me it was the freedom of learning, studying what I wanted to, in areas that fascinated me. I've met many university students over the years including political geography, sociology, foreign studies and much of it seemed very dry knowledge, hasn't allowed for the flair of self-learning within those confines. The world and it's people is an endless fascination for me and thanks to my own self learning I've been able to take from all 3 of those aforementioned aspects and many more to educate myself.

Not the same at all, yet slightly similar: I used to work for a large American company. Upon arrival at Newark, the CBP agent started asking me all sorts of questions, fair enough. Except, when he asked me who I worked for and I replied, he refused to believe me because I’m not an American and don’t speak like one.
I honestly didn’t know if I should laugh, cry or educate him about how it’s possible to work for a foreign company, but then I realised he couldn’t help being stupid.
A funny side note is that he later features in a documentary about the CBP’s work - and still acts like an idiot in front of the camera.

Reminds me of the time when I flew back to Germany from Manchester Airport, shortly after the Brexit referendum. I refused to go through the nude scanner because of general concerns with these things. So I got some one-on-one treatment from a similar character. I mentioned in passing that something they were doing there was exactly the opposite of what I was used to from other airports across Europe. I then got a lecture on the apparent fact that the referendum had changed geography and (even though the UK was still technically part of the EU at the time), the British Isles were no longer part of the continent of Europe.
