Last week as I was trying to photograph the beauty of the Tetons, I heard a familiar voice and found it to be Steve visiting with other photographers. After they completed their conversation, I walked over and told him that I wanted to just say "Hello". Believe me, in "Real Life" Steve is the same patient, friendly photographer/trainer that we have watched over the years. He's the real deal.

Great as always. I too count the GGO as my favorite subject to photograph. You are right there is something special about being alone with the owls. And it’s great to see all the babies this year. I found 2 different families (2 babies each) in central Idaho and have had 4 days shooting alone with them this year. Great memories. Thanks for your videos and enthusiasm. Good to find some positive stuff on the internet.

Great video Steve. Please inform up and coming wildlife photographers about binoculars. Possibly the most critical piece of gear especially when doing bird and raptor photo shoots. Less time searching and more time shooting. It would have helped in the situation where you thought there would be a good angle but a limb was in the way. With binoculars you would have known to increase the angle of approach and saved critical time. Keep these informative and on location videos coming. Just loving the action of them all.

That’s dedication right there. I was trying to get some pictures of any birds this summer in some Arizona forest and it was hard work. Plus my lungs weren’t doing well with the higher elevation. Thought there would be more birds in the forest but it was actually hard to find them or get close enough to get a decent picture. Good job.

Nice video and documentary. Kinda see myselves there with the entusiasm and could feel the exitement. My "hunting grounds" is in Norway and besides predators like the Buzzards, Fish Eagle, Sea Eagles, Hawk I started this year with owl. Was able to cath my first Hawk Owl witch has a good population this year with a rodent year (probably caused by lockdown). For two weeks ago i stumbled upon a Golden Eagle which is rare even for Norway. Keep on posting !

Hey steve…. awesome vid... That one little bit at about 8:00 where you flipped the cam around and showed a pov was so awesome... it was like I was there with you trekking through the forest and tracking a great gray owl... I think you should do some experimenting with a head strap and a gopro. It would be a really great addition to the video to try and show more to the viewers of what its like being out in the bush... Just a suggestion. Great video as always steve.. looking forward to the next one :)

  • @Stevelarge1

Hi Steve, Another fun video for sure! It would seem that it is indeed a "great grey year" this year. Tried very hard last year to photograph great greys up here in the BC interior in 2018. Got nothing. This year it is a whole different story. Found two nests, 5 adult birds and 7 owlets! Went crazy and got 1600 images over my two day stay there. Cooler and wetter up here this summer so less fires and smoke. They say that is what drove them out last year. All the owls seemed to be making up for lost time. Plenty of food for them in the way of voles so they just went nuts. Did not have to chase them much as they hunt in a circle and have established perches that they use on a regular basis. Easy shooting - down low.
Anyway, take care and keep making those great videos!

Loved this video! Thanks for sharing!
I’m just wondering, what is the maximum aperture of that lens at 500mm? And were you shooting wide open all along?
I’m asking because I use Fuji, which is crop, so I’m just trying to get an idea of what I would need to get similar subject separation with my gear.
