Made me feel empty as well. But it is the ending I would probably have gotten if all of this were real life and not sci-fi. Probably most of us.
We like to pretend to be total badasses and going down in a blaze of glory is desirable. But given the choice, most of us would fade away in the crowd instead.
What impressed me about this ending was how they managed to make you feel like you really were in a coma for two years and now experience the consequences of the world moving on without you. The first person story-telling really helps with that. One moment you hang around with Judy at the docks, speak with Victor in his clinic. Then you tap out for a second, wake up and all you knew is gone.

I hated it, the fact I couldn’t even stand up for myself or go back to get the pendant they took from me was infuriating. V could have absolutely kicked their asses without combat cyberwar and in a weak state. But I do get the point of it too and that made it hurt. That and the fact I accidentally deleted my first character saves and everything prior to the spaceport because my game was glitched out at the spaceport, so now I am locked in that ending with no return and no second character to finish the other ending where I was in the facility hiding from the rogue AI and about 90% done😢

Guys, I get some (negative) comments about my choices and the ending.
I want to say that I only made these choices because I wanted to see (and show you) the ending the DLC Phantom Liberty added to the base game.
Nothing more. I am NOT happy and I had a hard time picking these choices to get to see this.
My first playthrough I chose the Rogue path and got an ending with Judy in an apartment.
I might load the save files and replay the ending to see another, the Aldecaldos path for example.

All of them are good, and it depends on the person's playstyle, preferences and choices. I thought your ending story was quite good. Its so damn emotional, I was sobbing all the way. But if you choose to help reed capture her you get a whole bunch of new amazing missions and an actual look into her life all of which you really shouldn't miss out on. I think this ending is more positive than a lot of people see it. At the end of the day V is still a fully functioning human, with more skills than most and a lot of contacts. Johnny has been finally laid to rest with all his hate towards the world. Sute they lost some friends, but they had only known them for a few weeks. They've got their whole life ahead of them, a lot of money and an assured job of they want it with potential for work on other areas.
It's not like they're the only person in the world without combat implants, and there is other technology that can make up for some of the shirt comings which they can afford for to their wealth and contacts. It just goes hard because they've come down from being at the top of their game. But they where never happy there. I think that's why you see them smile just before they turn away at the end. They've made their name and lived the life of a famous merk, but now they get a fresh start to be someone else.

definitely one of the best endings writing wise. Totally blindsided me and then seeing what happened to everyone. Kudos to the writers for basically having everyone feel like what returning from war must feel like; your body isn't like it was when you left, everything has changed, people's lives move on without you, some people assuming you died. I'm kinda annoyed for so mi tho which is gonna be stucked with the gov while she just wanted to be free.
This ending makes perfect sense with the title of the expansion I guess : V became a phantom (which could be considered a npc from player's perspective) and got some kind of liberty.

Even though the ending leaves us emotionless, I think this is the ending we we're still missing. It's bittersweet.
You finally have the peace and quiet of living life as a normal citizen. It's one of the things we've always wanted, but now we have it, it all feels so empty. It's a different form of emptiness than just finishing a game, it's actually the final cut of your character's story.
I think CDPR did an amazing job with writing this ending. You need guts to write something that makes us fans feel this miserable. It's realistic. Of course, real life sucks, especially if you lose everyone and everything, but in my eyes, this is one of the strongest, well-thought out endings ever written in video game history.
I wouldn't play it through the same ending again, though. Once is enough. I appreciate it, but it just hurts like hell. 😅
PS, I see that you got the ending where your friendship with Johnny wasn't optimal. If you've played through the game and finished all Johnny's side quests (with Rogue), and built your relationship to the fullest, he'll have a different dialogue. Definitely worth playing out. So damn emotional. It 100% made me cry.

    • @Unknown-ek1ox

tbf, only if you use V's life as a benchmark.
Misty making a passing note of "you're one of us now, having to run away from gunfire" just points out that you'd live a current (real life) life where you can't really chrome up or rather use any chrome other than your phone and maybe eyes/scanner anymore.
If that a bad life? Not necessarily. I'd take that desk job at Langley. Many people today live this life. Would they call it bad? Not outright.
I know it's a fall from grace or standards for V but it's by no means a totally bad life. I'd say not even in the world of Cyberpunk, at least if you got that job offer from NUSA/FIA.
Or IDK, as V implies, if you want to try your hand being a fixer. More dangerous though, but a sort of change of pace while still being in NC. Get used to having hired muscles as bodyguards tho.
I'd personally take the Langley desk job though. V is basically in her mid 20s by then. A whole life to look forward to under likely stable employ. Desk job or not. Not like much would endanger her at Langley where (s)he'd probably live then.
Basically my core message being "Appreciate what you have not always what you long for" - is a short high intensity live really better than a long stable one? And IDK maybe there could be some fix in a decade or so for V.

    • @evidicus
      @evidicus 11 месяцев назад +4

I get what you're saying. But It comes back to quiet life or blaze of glory? And while V is mid-20s, s/he has no clan, no family, no real friends left, no partner, no home, no possessions, no money, no ability to chrome up, no (or very few) connections and no real prospects other than the desk job at Langley. What good is more life without a reason to live? Or perhaps the better way to put it is what good is winning the fight if you lose everything and everyone you were fighting for.
Maybe V goes back to Langley and gets assigned to some anti-gang, corporate espionage or nomad taskforce (based on their background). Maybe they find a way to live with everything that happened and keep moving forward. Maybe V meets a cute NUSA analyst and settles down. But that would require time, an incredible amount of maturity, and a willingness to accept facts and let the old V die in order to become someone completely new. Either way, the V we knew is dead and gone.

    • @Unknown-ek1ox
      @Unknown-ek1ox 11 месяцев назад +3

@@evidicus I potentially see a rich life ahead in that scenario.
But alas if V wanted more of their old life, I mean I can see them try to be a fixer or something where they can apply their NC knowledge and maybe some old contacts (that can be warmed up etc). While no longer in the heat of battle, it would be a real challenge. And, well, you'd need to have bodyguards and security measures where you would've been your own security measure otherwise.
Either way ultimately I find the ending a bit depressing and, well, the downside even forced a bit in terms of writing. But it's not the worst fate to suffer IMO :D
Time, as nearly always, heals any wounds.

I don't think they sacrificed themselves to make V a hero. Jacky died because he wanted his own fame and money.
Johnny died many years before we even met him, because he blew up a tower of a big corporation and got caught.. Their death is not due to V trying to become some hero. Instead I'd say what happens to V is because he/she follows along with those two.

I respect your interpretation, however I based it on some lines of dialogue.
Remember the mission you go to CLOUDS and talk to the NPC in bed, at that moment V makes it clear that he wants to be remembered, to leave his mark he is not worried about the cure but about dying and not being remembered. Another moment is at the very beginning when Dex in the car asks V questions about which way he wants to live.
And there's also the matter of having a drink named after him at the Afterlife bar.>>> so that ending with the V-NPC is completely contrary to the life of a mercenary and his desires.
Anyway, this ending left me so depressed that I restarted the game, sent Songbird to the moon and back and ended up leaving with Judy and the Aldecaldos, the most beautiful ending in my opinion.❤‍🔥@@LIZZgame

Idk if it has been commented yet, but I noticed two changes from your ending to mine. One of which is the relationship with Johnny. If you befriend him over the course of the playtrough he gets really sentimental at the end and even calls you by your real name and all. Another difference I noticed was the delamain service. Chat already said you get different dialogues with delamain. Since you split it's personalities you get the one, that you can also summon as vehicle. Basically treats you as a friend and changes stuff from like "friend" to "Viktor" and stuff. But all in all none of the endings are "good" in CP it's just what you make out of it with your imagination.

The ending that you got (2:36:23) is "happy" in the sense that no one dies (except Johnny, who is already dead). In every other endings, someone dies. The most exciting path is when you betray Songbird at Hansen's mainframe, which leads to several boss fights later. Even with the sad outcomes, the writing, performances, and storytelling are top notch in the game in every facet.

Imo - the best of all possible endings because in this one V at least gets to live. As depressing as this ending was... I think this is the best and most realistic ending to the character V. Vincent/Valerie isn't exactly a good human being. I mean, he/she murdered people... Granted those people weren't necessarily good but, collateral damage isn't something that's easily avoidable. They got carried away by greed which ultimately got themselves into this shitstorm to begin with. Then again in a way, V got exactly what he/she wanted in the beginning... which was to make it into the big leagues. They did that and much, much more. I don't think V's story is cannon but from what I experienced from the game, V becomes an absolute unit. David Martinez, Adam Smasher, any other legend of NC really doesn't come close to what V became. Then to see that all disappear in an instant because of the will to survive is just karma ultimately catching up. It's depressing because V just isn't the unit he/she was. Getting bested by 2 random goons in the end made that clear. But at the same time, V is young, healthy (as far as a normal human goes), has his/her life in front of them, has connections, money, a job on standby. He/She got to live a stupid crazy life and went down in history for their exploits in NC and lives on to tell the tale.

to me it just showed how much the OG's had your back, i bet if jackie was alive it would go similiar to vik being so happy that your alive, panam, judy, river and even kerry were a bit too selfish in their own regard, kerry was 50% but panam angered me the most, i get her attachment but it's not like V could've done anything really, V was there in her lowest for panam but in V's lowest she gets angry and sends mitch to reply to V's message, not even herself can send a sendoff, judy tbf had the most mature but still somewhat selfish. and i mean if im getting a message from a friend/partner saying that they are going in for surgery and dont hear back from them, my first thought is not "they ghosted me/ forgot about me" its "are they alive/ are they dead"

Personally: I think its the happiest ending bcs its the only one in which V gets to live. And they can do with that lifes what they want. Leave NC to find new meaning, become a fixer, find new friends. There is a future now. Also I mean...you still got you'r friends. Like Judy says you can come over for a beer, Vik is still there, so is Misty. Nothing will ever be the same again but that doesnt mean it has to be bad.

It is very tough to be in the world and not correspond to its realities (inability to use implants). Although on the other hand, all the skills of V remained, the ability to shoot, hide, understand technology, and have great knowledge in Night City. Johnny's and Songbird's fates notwithstanding, this is actually the happiest ending in the game.
I'm not sure why it's considered "bad" by so many.
So you don't get to be a gangbanger criminal no more, you don't get to kill and run over people, but so what?
You get to live 'till old age, you're fine and perfectly healthy, and on top of that, you get offered a cushy government job at the FIA (this alone is something a lot of people would kill for IRL, let alone in that world).
You have to leave Night city, which is described as the worst city in the US, that doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.
Hell for what is supposed to be a dystopian setting, that's a significantly better deal than most people get in real life!
As for "losing your friends", you actually don't lose most of them, you're still in contact with Judy, Misty and Viktor, and could probably reach Panam if you really wanted, you could even try and help River out of his mess, given your new FIA contacts.
Besides, if someone doesn't think that being in a damn coma is a good enough reason not to return their calls, they're not prime "friend material" in the first place, good riddance.
I was actually annoyed by how ungrateful and whiny they made V, in most of the options available.
If i had to battle with something like cancer, and came out alive, I wouldn't be complaining that I can't be an olympic runner anymore, I'd be thanking every lucky star I get to have a second chance at life.

Good to know that others felt the same. I just watched your video right after I ended this ending myself and it felt better to not experience it alone. You lucky one had your chat. Very well written but not a good idea to play for someone who has low self esteem or a depression I think. Don´t think it counts as a spoiler when I tell you that this ending can be a little bit different. Not sure if mine was different because I left out the visit to Hanako or if it was because I also unlocked the "secret ending" with V and Johnny only fighting against Arasaka.
But anyways the little but hurtful difference was in the AV with Johnny. The dialogue was just a tiny little bit different but at the end when the doc gave V the "medicine" that dosed her of Johnny said something like "goodbye Valerie my friend" or something like that. Didn´t remember it word by word but that one hits really hard.
Think it must have been the unlocked "secret ending" because it´s the only reason that makes sense that the dialogue was so different at this point.
Also it was cool to see you know when to ignore chat for a bit 😊
See I can also be friendly not only complaining 😁😉

Moral of this game, the dark future have no happy endings. You realize one thing when your life is on the line: It’s all meaningless…

I only watched the ending btw and heard what you said. To me, copying memories is already done by Arasaka when they captured hackers' engrams and reprogrammed them to run their systems. Suburo Arasaka's project is to copy an engram into a living body, not a hardware system, and take it over. Naturally, this was his way to ensue he would "live" on.
I don't know how an engram can overwrite a person. It sounds ridiculous unless the brain system is 90% cybernetic which would make it more android than human. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't like the Cyberpunk story much. The characters are fine, just not the engram erasing another person angle.
Cyberpunk reminds me of an old SF novel in which a person's memories are recorded and the body put on ice. The company will then thaw the person as per the schedule they requested; 30, 50, 100 years. The memories are restored and the person goes on to live the number of years he pleases before he rinses and repeats the icing and memory storage. Eventually it comes to a point when the body ages, the person then clones himself and the cycle continues.
Is the ending happy? Not really. It came to a point when the female character couldn't take it any more and chose to die. The male character had by then, after hundreds of years, lost some of his humanity and simply carried on because the cycle had become part of his "program".

This ending destroyed me. I felt so screwed over that it took days for me to recover. I couldn't even watch yours because it upsets me so much.
Should you decide to play again I can say there is a better ending, it's still Cyberpunk so not happy but given the extra knowledge from that ending (Phantom Liberty So Mi/Reed decision), I can say that it is better all around.

Worst ending imo, Staying with the Nomads with Judy or Panam are the best ones

This ending is brilliant - Feels like coming of age in real life. The death of idealism and dreams, the embrace of the mundanity and loneliness of growing old and accepting your new reality. Heartbreaking but also hopeful - it's also the least video gamey ending I've ever seen in a game. You feel completely powerless and the fun city you once made your bitch as a cyborg killing machine now feels intimidating and scary

Damn, Johnny's dialogue is way more cold here, then i had it. So, high relationships with him really are working!

Yea... it emotionally hurts. There is one objectively worse ending, and some other endings can hurt too, depending on choices and investment in relationship. V was a short time legend that changed many lives, but after 2 years people had to move on.
This ending might be also seen as metaphore for aging and loosing childhood friendships.

I'm glad I never played this DLC. My V would have had none of it. :( I bought it though, and I'm glad I did, I support the Devs and Creators and the world)

Yeah These endings were spoiled for me right as I started the Expansion. It broke me so bad I never even played it. I was team Judy, she wanted to leave NC, So I stopped doing all the side jobs after pyramid song and went to the Panam since she seemed the best chance and making it through with back up. I feel the game was Male V, Panam focused even with Judy as your Romance, (She comes with), but final shot is you cuddling with Panam looking into the stars. . I think if they had time. A similar outcome with Judy, the Mox and Clouds would have occurred.

I played some of the other endings. Apart from Johnny taking over, I think I played them all.. The Rogue path I played, but that was my first playthrough in 2021, so the video is gone. I might play these two endings as well so they're on here, hehe.
