This video helped me out so much my radiator fans weren’t turning on I bought every single relay for my 2001 Toyota Corolla and stumbled upon this video, turns out the plug that goes into that sensor was broken and it wasn’t sending info that my engine was overheating
Very good and specific video. I'm trying to analyze a P0128 error, coolant temp seems to be in range on my 2000 Corolla, but I get the check engine light. I suspect this sensor more than the thermostat. I've tried resetting and letting car warm up more, but the light will eventually come back and stay on. Idle seems odd also which might be another symptom.
I meant PO128, which is 'coolant' something, but coolant is fine, no leaks and temp gauge/level and warmup are all fine. I think idle isn't too good either, which might be another symptom. Due to your video, I know where to look for the sensor in the first place; I'll check this and the PCV valve (as shown in another video you did) as well.
i have a 92 corolla can you give me a step by step lis on how to find and fix the sensor I bought the sensor its just that your video is not that detailed thanks your the only one on youtube that seems to have this car model lol
Hey, can you help me? I have 2004 Toyota Corolla 1.4 (petrol) and it has starting problems. It cranks but doesn't start when stopping after a short drive. I have taken it to a Toyota dealership but they couldn't find anything. Fuel pump changed. MAF and throttle body are cleaned. Battery and sparks are okay. Today I will change the crankshaft position sensor. Next step is to change the ECT. Also all the relays are okay Any ideas what else it could be?
Thanks to your video i install temp senser by myself but last time i think i forget to put the washer and i notice coolant leak from the sensor, and i crank engine many time to start my 1997 corolla , how can i stop leak from tempreture sensor? Thanks so much.
Who needs to take car to shop? I do my own work and am even more confident reviewing Peter's vids. Peter, you mentioned error 22, I think do you think this ECT sensor my be causing my P028 error? I'm running out of other ideas.
Replaced mine, now engine has trouble starting. I replaced it while engine was hot and coolant went out. It'll have a rough idle and I give it gas as it's starting. I'll try to put old sensor on and see if that has anything to do with it.
I was about to take apart to test, but I think I'll order the part first so I don't have to do everything twice. I also wanna test my pcv. Also, when do I know I need spark plugs? I pulled one or two and they look fine, I've for 140k miles but bought it at almost 100k and know the previous owner kept maintained. I was looking at timing chain, but shop said they last forever, as do some vids on here, though I think you have one on replacing.
I replaced plugs and get insanely great fuel mileage now. I'll address this P0128 code next. I got new thermostat and will try that first, but I think it's okay since temp is always fine, but maybe doesn't warm up fast enough.
I just did the test on the ECT sensor by unplugging it to see if the fan would turn on. My car ran a little rough when I did that. When I unplug it it's supposed to turn the fan on right? Is the engine supposed to run and sound different when you do that?
Thanks for the video. I changed it with a cheap sensor from ebay, but now the temp needle goes almost to H, once the car warms up. Do you think I should use the Toyota OEM sensor instead?
Hi Peter, love all your videos :) quick question what's the problem on cold start, the rpm is really low i need to step on the accelerator to gain rpm until it's warm. checked everything already, spark plug, ignition coil, cleaned iacv and tested it but still on cold start it got low rpm and rough idle, it runs smoothly when engine warms though. Thanks!

Hi...I have a 99 Chevy Prism and purchased the Sensor at AutoZone yesterday. The person who sold me the part said he was 90% sure the sensor was on the passenger side and pointed to a wrong part location. I still can not find the Air Temp Sensor. Help. Thanks.
Hello Peter, is this sensor responsible for fuel enrichment on startup? high idle on startup? - and if this sensor is faulty can it cause a misfire, knock sensor code ?
I changed mine today, but light still comes up after a while of driving. Do I need to reset manually motor light, or is there probably more problems to come?
Ok, next do these: A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Low engine coolant level ,Leaking or stuck open thermostat (likely), Faulty cooling fan (running too much), Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor. 👍😃

I'm not Peter, but I have had a positive experience with bluetooth OBD sensors. Almost everyone has smartphones these days, so you can leverage the hardware you already have to save money and have a more advanced tool. I picked up a bluetooth sensor online for about $10. I used it with the torque app for android and I can read error codes for many types of vehicles although I mainly use on an '05 corolla. It can also use the gps sensor and accelerometer in your phone along with the rpms etc to give you horsepower and torque figures as well as mpg. It's a neat tool.
I've had the same problem. I haven't changed the sensor yet though. You might try to use an obd scanner if you or a friend has one. If you really need one, there are many bluetooth models that you can use with your phone online for around $10. (that's how I figured out it was a temp sensor fault)
you need to hook up a automotive code reader. Its basically a little computer that will bring up the code and possible symptoms. Most car repair shops will look it up for $10.00

does aftermarket temperature sensor from autozone makes a big different?
These should work too, but less time. Toyota original parts last 400% more nornally.

What the other coolant sensor underneath the distributor called. I can’t find anything about it
Yeah same here

A one wire sensor is for the gauge in the cluster. The other sensor is helping the ecu to get correct air fuel mixture.
Is this sensor usually the issue for P0118 as well?

I would say yes.

could it be that this sensor is responsible for warm start problems? where the engine wont start while hot? 5A EFI engine
Yes
