This is fabulous! No one but Placido Domingo could do it so well - the singing as well as the acting. He really is unique! I would just love to get hold of this!!!!!!!!!!!!
Umwerfend!🙏Domingo ist absolut einmalig, besitzt alle Talente von denen ein Künstler nur träumen kann❤️ Er ist für alle Opernhäuser ein großer Verlust wenn er nicht mehr auftritt
Placido as the unscrupulous, lovable villain is superb. No other actor/singer could carry this off with such conviction and verve and give so much enjoyment. I shall be smiling for the rest of the day. BRAVO, MAESTRO. I saw Placido sing Cyrano in Paris a few years ago, and he exchanged a few words with me. An experience I shall never forget
Boris Christoff twice recorded the title role - Boris - as well as the other two bass roles of Varlam and Pimen. I once sang live on stage both Fasolt and Fafner. All these are bass parts and none of them sing at the same time although they are duets in the sense that they answer each other. This duet couldn't really be done on stage but it's very interesting to hear Domingo sing equally well as a baritone and as a tenor. I can't think of anyone else who could do this. Maybe Ivan Rebroff?
Just as a friendly fyi, I bought what is labeled an international release copy from Presto Classical UK online, new, about six months ago. Worth a try I'd say. I'm sure used DVDs can be found at vendor marketplaces online.
Hola @chmurka7, thanks for posting this clip from the Emmy award winning tv special "Hommage a Sevilla." I have this on DVD too - but, it is slightly different. This clip starts earlier than on mine (yours shows Figaro on the street too, but separate and then he sees Almaviva off-screen to the right, he laughs, then Almaviva joins Figaro; mine starts immediately with Figaro singing the "metallo" opening). Then our copies match until the end of the duet. Here, yours ends with a transition to Domingo, at the age of the performances, standing in front of a yellow stucco wall, with a horizontal striped sweater. In mine, it transitions immediately to him in a cream blazer, now sporting greying hair. I know my copy has the narration segments done ten years later, apparently for an "international release." So, that means your copy was issued earlier. In what country did you buy your copy and do you know if it is still on sale? Yes, I'd like to own that version, too. I don't know if you're still using this channel but hopefully I'll hear from you, or someone else who might care to help, at some point. Mil gracias por compartir.
He is SO great! Best living tenor today!
quando due grandi si trovanno soltanto maraviglie si possono aspettare
Grazie
Great - fabulous! Fantástico Placido Domingo!

The most gorgeous, bigheaded, bright, versatile, overweening, crazy, amazing man in the world,
Rather a conflicted comment there, Trapdoors.
I love this!!!
Great Video, Great singing by Placido Domingo!
It's impresive how he can sound much more heavier singing Figaro...
Incredible

God! I think he recorded both parts separately. If he didn't, I am going to pray in front of his picture every night! :D
wonderfull, i wonder where i couldfind this movie. thank you
@iaquil Yup. Ponnelle did great things with every scene he directed.
Placido recorded part of Figaro on CD (for Deutsche Gramophon). THis duet comes from a programme and there is no more.

che invenzione prelibata! (mo ci vuole)
Where did you get this video, Placido sings the entire opera, i really like to see this, please let me know if you have this amazing material.
Impressive...Is Ponnelle the cinematographic director?
@hkk321 Thanks a lot!
Very funny---but, the tenor drowns out the baritone a little ;)
