• Gear swap follow up!! ...
This gear swap video explains and shows a Craftsman/Chamberlain/Liftmaster gear swap start to finish. It's not as hard as you might think...C'mon...give it a try!! The worst that can happen is you end up calling a pro to finish the job, but should you succeed, then you saved a ton of money!!

I saw a great and sprocket replacement video that was published a year ago, and its instructions are just like yours in this video, published 7 years ago. Although the procedure is common, the finer notes are uncannily similar. I'm giving my thumbs up to you.
And...I will give my thumbs up to you and your observations as well👍🏽👍🏽
I don't know how someone could give a thumbs down. I am a 67 year old retired , female nurse and fixed my garage door opener all by myself, except I needed my son to help drop the unit down. { not enought room above to remove old sprocket and gear}. By far this was the best instructional video out there. It showed all that is needed to change the sprocket and gear. I opted for the whole thing because it would be easier than trying to punch out the little pins to just replace the gear. Just had to tweak the up and down level and it works great. It cost me $ 50.00 for a used unit and saved me hundreds of $$$$$$. Thank you so much. Now I can help my son do his. Of course he can probably do it himself, after watching me. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words Yvette! I often wonder myself how someone can give that video a thumbs down. Must be the competition is not too happy with lost sales on new machines, now that more folks are fixing their old ones. Glad the video helped you out.
Oh MAN!! If I had been greasing the gears, my opener may not have failed... this is a GREAT video! I am swapping out the gears after 15 years of trouble free use.. can't complain. You have saved me lots of $$$ with this demo. Much appreciated!
No problem Mr Dunn, glad to be of assistance. Grease the gears every 7 yrs and they won't strip out. It wouldn't hurt to put a drop or two of oil right underneath the sprocket every few yrs as well...there is a bushing there that also wears out if the chain is too tight.
All-Pro Quality Garage Doors Inc. Thanks! All good to know...
I cannot stress how much this video helped me repair my mother's door opener! It saved her sooooo much money and it was so easy to do. I am mechanically inclined when it comes to cars and what not but this was so easy, a caveman could have done it. Thank you so much for posting this video!!! Its good people like this that make the world a great place to be!!!
I have this exact model, and the sprocket failed last week. I got a new one for $25 from Amazon, and this video was GREAT .. I followed your instructions to the letter and replaced it. Saved me $200 for a new unit .. thanks so much !
Julian Lockwood glad to help out!! Yes you did save a ton of money by repairing vs new. 👍🏻
You’re a maniac with garage doors! Thanks brother I just had a nylon gear break in my opener and am going to save myself 400 dollars.
Heck yea!! that's what i'm talkin bout... save that money and fix it yourself! 👍🏽
Excellent and straight to the point. I watched this and successfully fixed my opener about 4 years ago, and just used it this weekend when my other opener broke. (It was easier the second time). It's a life-saver. Thank you!!
Had to come back with my follow up report... Your Video saved me $$$ I really appreciate it! Changed out the assembly without a problem. Only thing I wish I had was a thread tap for the holes on the new flange. I also opened and greased all of the other garage door openers I have as preventative maintenance... whew, they were all good. Thank you AGAIN!
Fred...nothing better than a job well done and money saved!!!! Glad i could be a part of that!
My gear just stripped, opened it up and there was a pile of white dust in the case, motor was installed in 1997 and used as the primary entry into my garage for 15 years as the man door has not been accessible, it's never been serviced once. Thanks for the video it saved me a lot of money..... You REALLY know your garage doors!!
Streetwhore8te4 Thanks for watching, glad you saved some coin...lube the gears in another 7 yrs and your golden!!
After I watched your instructions, I ordered the kit and fixed it myself. Took me no time at all. Thank you. Subscribed to your channel.
Thanks JG!! glad to be able to help out.
Great video I'm 75 years old followed instructions with my grandson finished the job in about 2 1/2hrs worked just fine. Thanks
That's great Ace! Job well done, that's how it's supposed to be.
best video yet explaining how to replace gear. Thanks
Thanks brother!
Many thanks for your GREAT video. Bought the parts online, took my laptop to the basement, and mirrored your steps. I live in a rural area of Tennessee, and garage door techs are hard to find. SO thanks ot you, I had success in my repair, and as many others have commented, you are to be commended for such a detailed instructional video!
+Harpeth Soccer Boosters ....A much appreciated Thank You!! Glad to be of help.
Have to say probably one of the best videos on this subject I've seen on the web. Great, clear, steady videography, great audio and great talent, too. Smart narrative and helpful tips really make this video rival what's on TV.
I thought my garage door opener was a goner until I watched your video. Many thanks! Perfect repair made.
Excellent!!! Glad to help out! 👍🏽
I just replaced these parts in my own Liftmaster opener. However, I also had to replace the worm gear which had flat edges instead of sharp edges. So that was something I had to figure out for myself.
While this is an excellent video, there are a few things to remember:
*1)* Most people don't have a 500 watt Klieg light to give them enough light to perform the work. We need the garage door to be open. So either borrow extra lights from friends or you will be opening and closing the garage door to perform the work. Like me.
*2)* This video shows the garage door "breaking" in the open position. Mine broke in the _closed_ position. Which means all of the work on the chain would have to be done with the door closed and minimal light. Something to be aware of before you start.
*3)* Move _everything_ out of your way. You *_will_* be up and down the ladder a lot and be moving the ladder around. Clear enough space around where you will be working.
*4)* Since my door broke in the closed position, I immediately knew I would taking the chain off the opener. There was no other way. So, invest in latex gloves. I ran out because I kept tearing them.
*5)* The best information in this video was to pre-thread the holes in the sprocket drive cover. Without that, I would have been struggling for at least another 30 minutes before I figured that one out. Also, if your opener did not come with a chain spreader or was just not installed (my case), pre-thread those holes *_after_* the sprocket drive installation. Again, much easier.
*6)* Replacing the worm gear is fairly straightforward but it does require you remove the motor completely. Maybe the All Pro team can do a video of how to do that and link the two! :)
*7)* However much time you allot for this task, multiply it by three. You *_WILL_* run into unforeseen issues that will slow you down. It's just a fact of home repair.
Remember, this is an excellent video that covers the major points of this specific type of repair. Watch it multiple times before you attempt the replacement. You will benefit greatly.
An absolutely stellar comment!!!!! I totally concur.
right on, take the whole box off ( four bolts ) and work on a well lighted bench. Gloves, YES, Get the $25 drive kit.
Thanks for the great video! Home from college for thanksgiving and was able to get it done in just under an hour! You saved me a ton of time and wanted to show my appreciation! Subscribed, Liked, and Commented!
Thanks Josh! Glad to see you didn't have to use up your entire Thanksgiving holiday fixing a garage door opener!!
Thanks so much for this. Got the parts and a buddy and I got the door fixed in about 90 minutes. Your tip on pre-tapping the holes on the bracket was the best and saved huge aggravation once we got to that part of the shaft installation. In my case, my chain had moved during the failure stage and your video on how to set the correct limits was really helpful. We wound up including some of those tips in the repair process of the shaft i.e. adjusting the trolley to centre and adjusting the limit contact. The one thing we did have to do to fix the door adjustment that wasn't in your video was remove the chain from the sprocket and move the trolley from what had been the original centre start position. We had to do this as we had maxed out our "up" adjustment and it still was not coming up far enough. When we did do these adjustments, we just ran the trolley without it being attached to the door until we got it fairly close. Then, it was just a slight turn of the knob to adjust the tension. Thanks again for your help on this.
Marc Whitham Glad to hear it all worked out in the end, well worth the 90 minutes to save yourself around $200.00 to have a professional do it !! 👍🏻
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. I just did a gear and sprocket swap on my door. Your video was a big help, much better then the paper instructions that came with the kit. And now I can proudly say "Done".
Installing the parts myself saved me money, and your video saved me time! I also replaced the worm gear while I was at it. About 2.5 hours start to finish for me. Thank you!
Thanks so much. I didn't know I needed grease on nylon gear...I replaced it twice.
Hey man, I appreciate you spending the time with this video; I watched it a few times before the replacement, then reviewed it again before I started, it went smooth with no issues, I felt like a PRO! Dude! Perfect instructions! You know your craft, If anyone needs expertise on garage door instructions your are the man!!!!!!
rbenny100 .... Thanks Benny! Glad it all worked out for ya!! I figured if I went start to finish on every detail your average joe could do this, glad to see it working out for you and many others... saving some major coin along the way.
I just wanted to say thank you again. This tutorial was spot on. Re threading those screw holes was a valuable tip. Broke last night at 5pm, up and running today at noon.
Can't thank you enough! This is a job I've been putting off for over two years because of fear of the unknown. I had no idea how easy it was. It's all apart and the parts are on the way from Amazon. You saved me around $120 plus who knows how much for removal of old unit and replacement. I'm in the driveway thumping my chest and screaming like a gorilla. Better go inside before one of my neighbors calls the cops!
+rick2112rkrk ....I know the feeling!
Excellent video...Clear and easy to understand...I have done garage door openers before, but now understand how to do the job, quicker and better....My thanks to the Gent that made this video.
Vern Roach Thanks Vern!! Glad to help out anytime buddy! 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video. On my Craftsman 1/2 hp model, it matters what direction you put the gear in when lining up the 3 bolts that secure it - you also have to make sure the spreader screw hole aligns with one of the extra holes on the gear top part or its a do over.
Thanks have the same model and will keep in mind when doing the repair.
Thanks for the help! A great, quick and clear video. I got all the parts from Amazon $25 next day and had it done chain and bar cleaned and adjusted in under an hour. I don’t mind calling the pros when I need to but prefer to pull out the professional home owner card when I can. Hope you have a great 2021!
Thanks for posting this video. Very easy to understand and follow step by step. Fixed my garage door opener for 28 bucks and impressed the wife.
This is the best of the how to change this assembly. Very well done and very thorough! Thank you
Great video. Just helped my neighbor repair his opener. Someone quoted him a price of $300 for the repair. We did it for $40. Thanks again....
Good job body ! you make it easy, piece of cake. Thank you to share. Now, I am going to service my chamberlain 1/2 as easy as you did it.
Awesome vid. Absolutely all the details I needed. I've found more than a few YT DIY videos that were idealized versions representing more of a "what can happen if everything works out perfectly" scenario. Yours is the first I've encountered that was EXACTLY what I wound up doing to get my garage door working again. Well done!
Thanks Pat!! glad to be of service!!
Dude, this video was a big help. You sure know your way around a garage door opener. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
.....yes I do! Thanks for watching and I hope it helped.
Thank You for the video All-Pro Quality Garage Doors Inc. I watched 5 video tutorials on this repair & this one is the best one. No un-necessary steps, short to the point & efficient.
Excellent! Glad you liked it Ryan, hope you got the job done!
I was trying to fix the garage door opener for the first time, opened it up, saw the drive gear got completely chewed out. I bought the spare parts but it didn't come with instructions. Your video is definitely a godsend, thanks a lot.
Glad it worked out for ya buddy!!
I would like to thank you for posting this video. It was extremely helpful to me. I fixed my garage door and it only cost me $25. If I had called a repair man it would have been over a $100.
Spanish Red We charge $168.50 to do that job, we're not high, but not low either so you probably saved 150.00, so good for you for tackling this job and getting it done!!
That's my baby !!
Simply OUTSTANDING. Did mine start to finish - funny, just as you said, the hardest part was getting the case to cooperate. I learned some new words getting it back together. Awesome tips on the chain tensioning - I'm the hero of the house tonight! oh, best takeaway life lesson "every gear needs grease." Now that's one to grow on!
Thank you for this wonderful video. The chain sprocket on my Liftmaster 3245 broke off recently. By watching your video, I was able to replace the entire gear/sprocket with relative ease and saved at least $150 for someone to come out and do the swap.
+jlam226 No problem, glad it worked out for you!!
This was extremely helpful!! The tip about pre-threading the new gear plate was invaluable......Thanks!!!!
Hey! I did it!
It's held now for six days. I lost one of the screws that you mentioned at 3:13 (the 5/16-inch screws) so I just went to the hardware store and bought a bolt and nut to take its place. I did not use all of the parts in the kit.
Thanks again. I had to leave the car outside overnight. The morning frosts here in Michigan were starting to build on my uncovered windshield.
Awesome video, and steady camera work makes it a pleasure to watch. Thanks for the expertise!
Great video. Saved me a $200 repair bill. Thanks for doing it.
The best instruction I ve ever watched.Thank you.YOU ARE REAL PRO.
+ahmet atasever Thanks a bunch for the kind words Ahmet!! Hope it helped you out and thanks for watching!!!
Great tutorial!! Thanks for dumbing it down for us common folk, took me under and hour to replace it. Cheers!!
That's fantastic Eric!! I've used RUclips for alot of repairs on various items myself...love it! So I'm glad to see I can pay a little back with what I know.
Yep! Thanks so much for your video! Took care of it this morning. Overall it took me about an hour of work time and a half hour of being paranoid making sure I did it right. Only thing I didn't do was line up the holes right when putting the 5/16th screws for the assembly. Couldn't snap on the chain protector. Thanks again. We've had this Liftmaster for 19 years. I hope it has a few more left in it!
Man my gear swap was so smooth because of this video. Thank you!
Glad it worked out for you buddy...Salute!
I looked at five videos on youtube before starting my project. I ended up using this one by allproqgd to change out my gear and I'm glad I did. Nice job. Thank you!
Awesome video, very detailed and great camera work. Did exactly what you said to do and did not have any issues. RUclips needs more videos like this! Door works like a champ!
Great video - clear and at a good pace too! Thanks for taking the time out to do this video!
Great video! Thought I was going to have to pay someone to repair (or replace) my old (1991) Liftmaster opener. After watching this, I ordered the gear assembly for $25, and the replacement went very smoothly (thanks to the video) Thanks again!!!
Well if the video gave you enough confidence to actually order the part, and you successfully pulled off the repair, then it don't get much better than that, other than to know how much money you would have been charged for the repair...you saved major coin my friend!! Grease the gears every 6-7 yrs and your golden.
one of the best, no bull, to the point videos I have seen. Great contribution thanks!
this was, by far the best video I've found explaining the replacement process for the gear and sprocket assembly. Thank you!!!
No problem buddy glad to be of some assistance! Thanks for watching! 👍🏽
THANK YOU!!!!!! Your directions were right on and we had it done very quickly. Works like a charm!!!!
+Karen B ...badda bing, badda boom!! Glad you took the opportunity to try and fix it yourself. You're welcome.
Very thorough, nice job. As a former mechanic I appreciated that you took time to loosely fasten the gear hub to align before final torquing, and that you hand tightened the spreader bolts.
slip0n0fall Thanks buddy! Not many folk pay that kind of attention to detail except the mechanically inclined...definitely appreciate you watching! 👍🏻
Very well done video!! I am working on my garage door today (never touched one before)... thanks for all the great tips... and thanks for the detailed walkthrough and camera work!! I would not have automatically known to pre-thread the 3 holes on the new gear... not until I had to pull it back apart anyway!! So you saved me some time in many ways here!
Thank you for posting this video! Clear, to the point, no bull.
The drive gear sheared off on our opener. Bought the part from a local door place. Between their pointers and your video, job done.
The part about pretapping the three holes was very, very helpful!
fishing is my drug....thanks for watching, glad we could be of some help buddy!! 👍🏻
Thanks. Great video. Really clear and easy to follow. I was Told I needed a new unit so you saved me a load of money. Cheers!
Thanks man, I'm not that handy but I followed your video and successfully completed this the first time. I appreciate it.
Casey Gotliffe excellent! Thats good to hear!!
Thanks for taking the time to show how to do this. I never would have been able to figure this out on my own!
No problem Kevin, glad to be able to help.
Excellent video! I'm about to replace my neighbors gear assembly in two minutes. It looked straight forward but you always pick up tips by watching these videos. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and for the tips, lock pliers to hold the track and pre-threading the gear assembly screw holes. If you don't hear back from me, then all went well!
brickwal92tt ....I'm pretty sure you will have this gear swap under control, it really is pretty straightforward. Any problems let me know.
The only issue I had was that his model had a cap covering the chain gear on top. The assembly had to be fitted a certain position for the cap to fit correctly. Unfortunately I realized this after struggling to get the last screw back in. Such a hard spot, my hands were too big. I left it off and told my neighbor not to stick his hands up there. He was fine with it stating " it's always better to have spare parts after fixing something!". Thanks again for the excellent video!
brickwal92tt well i guess if your gonna have any extra parts... thats a good one to have. Glad it all worked out.
BTW, I thought your video was absolutely GREAT !!! Thanks so much for all the time and effort you put into it... I've never had the cover off of a garage door opener before and felt confident about making the repair -- right up until the trolley slammed into the safety bolt... LOL Again GREAT VIDEO !!!! Thanks.....
This video is perfect! Way more useful than the instructions that came with the replacement gear. It does a great job of showing every step of the process. Thank you!
ArtbroSean Thanks buddy! Thats the idea... “start to finish” step by step. Follow the video and anyone can do this!! 👍🏻
Fantastic video. I just listened and did what you said. I didn't break anything, offend anyone or throw anything. Quite a pleasant experience. Thanks brother
Hahaha!! Glad it worked out for you... now at the very least go out and offend someone... it’s the American way!!
"Pre-thread the holes" was a *great* tip. Actually it was all good. I wasn't sure about the limit screws, so I reduced the up/down travel a lot, then slowly increased the travel until acceptable. Thanks a ton.
Fantastic video. Thanks for taking it step-by-step. The tip about pre-threading the upper plate holes seriously saved some bloody knuckles!
Thanks for watching 69scram! As for bloody knuckles...Amen to that!!
Sorry I didnt get back to you! All went well! My brother-in-law did the "heavy lifting" and I honestly did help! It was freezing, but we got it done! MANY thanks!
That's great Denise!
You are a life saver!!! Saved lots of money by replacing it ourselves.
You indeed saved yourself a ton of money! DIY on youtube is a lifesaver!! Glad I could help out.
Dear All-Pro, your video on sprocket replacement is excellent. Thank you. Job done. Running like new. I am greatly appreciative. Thank you.
Executive Officer glad the video helped out and you back up and running for another 7-8 yrs!
Thanks for the info I'll take a look inside the unit this weekend. I must say I'm really impressed with my belt drive its quiet and pretty low maintenance especially for lasting 12 years on an original gear. I did check the date on it and it is 09/01 so its just shy of 12 years. Thanks for the help allpro!
Thank you. Great video. My gear was totally chewed up! $20 fix, thanks to your video. Had to adjust the limits a bit, just like you said. Now works perfect. Did it all in sub-zero weather in upstate New York. thanks again, cl
Chazdogs sweet!! Keep em greased every few yrs and your good to go! I can’t help you with the weather though but Al Gore did say the planet was warming so things are looking up!! 😉
Thanks. Great tutorial. Works perfectly. 19 year old Craftsman running quieter and smooth.
Glad to help out Gary!! 👍🏻
Brilliant! The way all instructional videos should be done. Trust me when I say, this video is about as good as it gets. I followed the instructions step by step and was completely successful. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
+Dan Mastrovito .....Big Dan, that's music to my ears buddy!!! That is exactly what I'm shooting for, step by step and if followed then success!! Thanks for proving that it's working!!
Great video - especially the tip about threading the holes BEFORE trying to put it on. Got mine to work first time.
+Matthew Moyle-Croft Glad to see you got it back up and running!!
Thank you All-Pro just completed the installation of the motor sprocket for my garage door really appreciated Juan
Juan Arroyo glad to help out Juan!👍🏻
Great video! Fixed my door using these instructions. Mine had the gears stripped out (all at once within about 10 seconds) so I wanted to know what had caused it so it wouldn't happen again on the new one. After replacing the gears and shaft I ran it without the door a few times and noticed the chain was jumping around and having trouble going through the main drive gear. I lubed the chain, flexed it back and forth several times through the whole chain and now its quiet and no longer jumping. I'm pretty sure the chain was what ruined my gears. Hope this helps someone and thank you for posting this video!
👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much for posting such clear instructions. I feel much more confident after watching your procedure!
William Leacock I think you will find it to be fairly easy, just go slow and lube the gears and you will be good to go!
Thanks Syl, the video has helped many. It's just a way to give something back for all the stuff I've learned on youtube myself.
Thank You for this video ! I have been looking for some kind of guide that I can use for replacing the sprocket and gear assmbly . I think that by far your complete start to end shows me how to fix my Access Master 1/3HP it looks identical to the unit you used for this demonstration... again Thanks
Best Video Out There for this project! One thing threw me off was replacing the chain spreader. I didn't realize that the gear dome could be out of rotation, resulting the chain spreader screw holes not lining up for screw installment! Had to dissemble a bit to get it right. Many Thanks for your instruction!!!
Yes!! it's one of those pain in the rear things that I have to constantly double check before getting ahead of myself when doing a gear swap because it only goes on one way or the holes won't line up for the chain spreader.
Drats. I went step by step, and when I turn on the opener the gear move only the slightest little fraction of an inch (practically not at all) and the makes a clicking noise. Any idea what I may have done wrong. The large gear on the spindle of my opener was hamburger, but all else appears in good condition, so I literally followed your video, step by step. Thanks, in advance, for any feedback.
Normally that would indicate that the chain is too tight. BUT...the clicking noise (if it clicks ten times) means your safety eyes are not aligned properly. If the chain was too tight it would click once or just buzz real quick then shut off. Try the remote, then when it clicks look at the LED next to the program button on the circ brd, it will flash you a code...up to 5 flashes, that will normally tell you the problem.
Good video brother ! Thank you for doing this... I replaced today gear on Craftsman with the help of seeing the job first , and works like a charm,, saved my mother some big buck$
No problem buddy!! Glad we could help out, all of our moms deserve to save when they can!! Glad it worked out as planned.
Thanks so much for this video!! The gear went bad on my dad's liftmaster pro 1/2 hp unit, and I did the repair myself just like you showed in your video! It wasn't that hard at all. Hardest part were them dang 3 screws! But that was it! Parts cost me 33.00 at my local garage door dealer. NICE!!!
That's fantastic TD-37!! Keep the gears lubed every 7 yrs and don't tighten the chain too tight and your good to go! Thanks for watching.
Well done video.. Great tip on threading the screws before adding all the grease.. Great closeups and make it very easy to follow..
Oh yeah, great video, superb tips and insights. Made the gear swap simple. Look at it twice to be sure !
THE BEST PART OF THIS VIDEO, aside from you making it look easy, is that you had someone else holding the camera! Great job with both! Thanks!
No wonder it has almost 200K views. Only 800 likes? Come on, people. Show this guy some like love for this video!
Chaz Steadman ....Thanks Chaz!! Some out there even hit the dislike button! Hahaha! I thought i covered it head to toe...start to finish fairly well, if you can't do a gearswap after watching this video then just turn in your man card.
I will admit that my man card has been suspended a couple of times but I always manage to get it back thanks to people like you! LOL.
Chaz Steadman hahaha!! We've all had few temporary suspensions on our man cards due to unforeseen complications! But thanks to youtube we have the fortitude to get em back!! Thanks for watching!!
Good job Jason and many props to you for doing it yourself!!
Amen brother Tim...good job and I'm glad it all worked out, you wouldn't believe how many people just get a new machine when the gear strips out, maybe they don't know it's fixable. Hallelujah for "RUclips" !!!
Great camera work, professional lighting,....nice step by step explanation and view of all the parts...many thanks.
Rex Rexford ....Thanks Rex, glad you liked it.
Exceptionally done with this video. Very detailed, without boring everyone to sleep. Also extremely informational and perfectly done. Thank you very much for this help and assistance. Great job and keep up the good work!
Thanks TPK15!! Glad to be able to help out, hope you got it done!
All-Pro Quality Garage Doors Inc. I did and it was simple, thanks to you! Only thing is I blew my capacitor when adjusting the up/down travel lengths lol. I think I overworked it. Swapped it out today though and she's as good as new
ThatPaskertKid15 ...I've blown many capacitors especially on older machines, testing and such, it happens, not too big an expense.
Thank you for a great video, and a FANTASTIC tip about pre-threading the holes in the gear/sprocket assembly. That would have been a big pain to do when already installed.
No problem Bruce, glad to help out buddy!! Thanks for watching!
Got a kit, installed it, Adjusted it. Works great. Thanks for the how to video.
LP23D6 ...... Sweeeeet! Saved yourself $175.00
Thanks for the video. It was easy to understand and I was able to order and install the new gear with no trouble.
Robert Bailey That's fantastic...a job well done.
Superb video! I would not have been able to do it without your video. Especially helpful was the tip on prethreading. Best video out there for this replacement. Thanks again!
No problem Richard...Thanks for watching, I use youtube for stuff like that too! I have accomplished plenty of tasks that I would normally not even attempt but youtube video's are a great tool!!!
Great video. Fixed my garage door opener in no time!
This was great. For me, I didn't have the luxury of "marking" the limits. After I replaced the main gear and shaft, with the chain still off, I ran the unit to the ends, and determined the "full down". I then put the chain on and ran it. I needed to tighten the chain and it all works well. However, my unit does not have a chain separator, but it does have a sprocket cover. I went to put the cover on, only to find out the the slots it snaps into, were in the wrong place. That gear shaft bracket with the 3 holes, needs to be lined up properly for the cover to snap into place. I left the cover off, not wanting to take the whole thing apart, and start all over again.
I did my garage door because of your video thank you very much... keep it up.
Thanks for posting this! Very thorough and easy to understand. Thanks again!
No problem Obee, glad you liked it,hopefully it helped.
Gold star for this video! You made it a breeze. I'd already disassembled before watching, so I missed out on clamping the shuttle in place. It ended up being in the up position, but the limit switch was at the down stop. However, I just removed the little clip, slid the little gear off, then rotated the limit gear until it was at the up position---problem solved!
That's exactly right Jerry, I've trained repair techs for many yrs and I always mention that popping that little limit gear off and spinning it to where you need it will always bail you out if you get your limits crossed. Good job buddy!!
Saving this for when I get the part!
A thorough and extremely helpful video. Thanks very much for the insights. Ready to take on the gear replacement!
