Home Built Personal Helicopter Takes Flight For First Time

- AviationExplorer.com - This homemade personal helicopter is built on a 3 pole support structure. At the top are 2 rotor blades that rotate opposite of each other to prevent the common helicopter characteristic of having the aircraft pull to one side therefore needing to apply pedal input. This homemade helicopter does not have a contained structure fuselage but more of a small seat to sit on as the pilot is under the main engine housing and all controls are mounted on the pole structure / handles.

this guy here, -no matter how seemingly small unuseful the device looks like- has achieved what all NASA and major companies couldn't do.
all NASA flights are HOAX and Moon Landing is the biggest HOAX of them all
ComancheChiefSD How does it feel to be wrong? Go ahead and let us all know
ComancheChiefSD hahaha seems that way

Lmao
Any helicopter with a teetering rotor fits that description if you bump the mast.
😄😂😂😂😂😂
We need more brave inventors like this. The wright brothers woukd be proud.
This is the perfect "I must go, my people need me" machine LMFAO !

finally wont be late for school.
works better to escape from school
@@adrianTNT works better to escape from life.
The "future" of transport, cheap, safe, ergonomic, quiet, fast. Can hover over grass and small stones without catching feet.Marvelous machine!!
So sort-of a helicopter-hat on a tripod? Very cool and terrifying all at the same time! Kudos to the test-pilot , you gotta have some big ones to get on this ride.
Hold my beer.
*hold my sake
Go, Gadget, go!
Exactly what I was thinking. Go Go Gadget copter! LOL
FOLLOW HIM, BRAIN!
This helicopter will self-destruct in one second.
OMG. It actually works. Where is this machine five years later?
my question exactly as this was posted fiver years ago, I just stumbled across video. I am very serious of finding out and also finding who this is to find out more.
You should start selling them on ebay!
Nice job. I would add an aluminum screen/cage under those blades to be safe.
electronicsNmore
Dude, this guy built a helicopter out of an old engine and some metal scraps, I dont think safety is one of his top concerns.
erries film
why bother. He’s gonna soon anyway
@@MervynGarnham gone soon
we should encourage inventors NOT frustrated them

You just did.
It’s Ferrocopter!
Why aren't we funding this?!
+Tyler Barker it's nothing more than a helicopter? Not to mention the dude is only flying up and down..... not horizontal.
There was a comment made earlier about 'ground effect' and loss of lift if this gets too high above the ground. I think there is something to that. The pilot did not prove that he could go higher, so I am sceptical that there is enough power to make this a viable flying machine.
But I will say "hang in there fella!"
Great job! Really encouraging to see that it can be done. I would be very interested to know the power output of the engine(s) and rotary blades you used. thanks.
They said I could be anything so I became a helicopter.
Another person out in the world, proving, just because you think it cant be done, doesn't mean that it cannot be done. Awesome.
Its actually pretty genius... The one problem that needs to be addressed is the possible losing a limb, or head by the low propellers, he can solve that easily by installing a cage type cover where the wind can go through and the pilot will not be able to go past that screen, or cage....install a comfy chair, etc, a little polishing out the kinks and I'd buy one, if the price is right.
This would really help me in my dream of becoming coleslaw.
Brought to you by Briggs & Stratton Headwear.
+ReneeNme Binford tools is proud to present....
cool invention. I wonder if you could make the frame and seat into gas tanks to give it a longer flying time. It would kinda suck to get up a thousand feet and run outa gas.
BLDC. The sound from exhuast would eventually make a person deaf, or insane. Or both.
JohnTheGeek13
I think he was referring to people on the ground...
With shotguns... :-)
Maybe he could add deployable gliding wings, then he could have a sort of "jump and glide" sort of thing.
I need me one of these. Roads around here are so shagged and full of numpties. This is the perfect Tesco run tool!
For the best experience, watch this video while the Inspector Gadget theme is playing.
Hi, I am interested in knowing what engine was used in this build and which propeller blades? I would also be interested in furthering the project. Thanks.
Mee too want to Know the same. Please let me know if you get the reply
The rotor system configuration he's using is called called 'contra-rotating', and is used on many different full sized aircraft. A good example of how this principle actually works is to have a look at the small children's rc helicopters around these days. They work on this same contra-rotating principle. 'Energy equals mass times speed of light' has nothing to do with basic flight dynamics, and I assure you that this video is no hoax.
Holy shit you guys are nuts, Hang Glider controls on a Helicopter Helmet ? That is priceless ! you can't get any better than that
LOL!!! LOVE IT!! lets hope the next model comes with added head room ;P :D ;)
Exactly, and you make a lot of very valid points. Looks very unstable. I'd prefer one of those mini helicopters that has a cockpit, shielding you from the elements and making it possible to have an instrument panel to easily check on mechanical vitals.
imagine going to school with this, it would certainly be way more fun
The human race is truly destined for great things.
Amazing achievement, I have been interested in something like this for a while and would love to get in touch.
five years later me too! please let me know what you have found out about this.
It would not be hard to make one
the flying guillotina!
I haven't seen this in ages. Thank you RUclips.
That is about the coolest thing I have ever seen!
Too bad RUclips wasn't around to tell the Wright brothers and all other aviation pioneers how bad and dangerous their ideas where.
I'm disgusted with some of the idiotic comments that I see here. You can't have the motivation to make something like this unless you are willing to take the necessary risks.
Some weird ideas may become a wonderful vessels in future.
Liam Noonan
The haters are all douchebags that have either never had an idea or never had the balls to try their idea.... they are garbage people afraid to leave their cubicles or spot on the assembly line, and fifty years after they are dead NOBODY will remember them, and there will have been zero accomplishments to remember them by..... and had they not typed in their hate to cover for their envy than they would deserve our pity, but since they are hateful I will laugh at them, knowing that when they die, it will be as if they never existed.......
Nananana inspector gadget nanananan ho hooo
lmao
I take it you control it by power for up and down and weight shift for control? Magic to watch, best of luck with it thanks for showing. Cheers, Pete
Thats a good video about the Hiller Rotorcycle. A proper mini helicopter.
Go go gadget copter.
i typed in how to chop large lumps of meat - and this came up
Why where you searching how to chop large lumps of meat?!?
tony sales

tony sales lol
tony sales lol i typed in " creative suicide "
That's one way to wake up the neighbours as you leave for work.
I'm totaly blown away
Inspector Gadget !!
That is the most dangerous device that will ever exist
Dem Nukes tho...
fsffda All helicopters are inherently dangerous. As a pilot you just know to be aware of the blades at all times.
Morten with uncovered blades that low to the ground, extra precautions have to be made over traditional aircraft. Helicopters have uncovered blades, but they are high enough that you can walk under them without being injured. I'm 6 foot 6. Walking near this guy would end my life. Propeller airplanes also have uncovered blades low to the ground. However, they only operate at airports. And the direction of airplane blades are predictable. This device can be used anywhere, including a city park. And the blades are capable of going in any direction. If he loses balance, he could veer off like a deflating balloon.
Almost everithing is dangerus forvstupid Americans. Well when idiots don,t mind comon sence the shit hapens.
Sanel Šabanovič Idiot, take grammar lessons.
Very cool! Have any further improvements been made to increase stability and to make it more controllable?
Yes, it can be used on mined area
dont stand up too fast....bad idea
that's awesome thx for sharing
A great achievement, congratulations.

booth319,
yaw is controlled by the little rudder vane in the back. There's only one throttle. The back leg is connected via a "U" joint to the two front legs.
It should be possible to build this for under 10 grand.
It's not a kit,the guy constructed it with off the shelf parts and some custom jobs.
He's been flying this contraption for years and his head wasn't chopped off nor did his hands go numb from vibrations,he actually never had any accident with it.
A lot of experts here !!
Ergonomic design is a must, Try a encapsulate to give you leverage and distance from the motor and shaft. Keep going man the sky the limit!
WANT!
My wife just said, "NO!"

Este sim, está superando as sp-equitativa da criatividade para uma pessoa em quaisquer lugar de partida.
No way this can auto-rotate I assume (blades have no variable pitch right?) Also way low mass and diameter rotor.
Scare-craft
That was the first thing I thought. That engine quits and it's all over.
George Viaud legality aside ,flying below 100 feet might exclude the auto gyro feature, maybe?
Cool. Be about half deaf though after 5 minutes under that motor.
after 5 minutes there would be no fuel :p
deaf and without fuel, does not hear the fall
SeattleSundown it would help if he had a headset for a loud engine.
What did you say?
love it. need an update video to this ;)
This is the most compact design. V good
holy shit what if he slipped out that seat in midair
go go gadget
I think you're right. It looked plenty risky, but also exciting and attractive!
muy elegante e ingenioso,los felicito¡
Go-Go-Gadget: HEADCOPTER!
" Look at me !!!, I've got a helicopter for a hat ". Stupid humans. lawl
That's one giant leap for one man.... one small step for mankind.
incredible, super, this is history, congrats!!!
In am glad it's him flying that monstrosity not me!!!! First, the pilot seat should be anchored firmly around the vertical and horizontal axes. Noticed how freely the pilot was swinging changing the CG without control. DANGEROUS and STUPID!
it's ment to be that way! its the way it stears -.-'
It's a Center of Gravity weight transfer steering system. If it were fixed he'd have absolutely no control
I am still glad he is flying it!
Very cool project! Thank you.
This is awesome!
That is sooo coool and looks like so much fun!...the thought of being killed instantly takes away a bit of the excitement though...
Stunning
Beyond awesome!
Outstanding invention
now its time to go higher....good luck :)
Pure genius..!!!
Mee too! this is awesome!
OMG! Homebuilt?
Now that's impressive! But then again, can't expect anything less from Germany ;-) :-D
Love it man
I think that the bottom set of rotors need top have a slightl bigger AOA becuase of hte downwards air from the top set. Just a thought
This is really CooL!
Wow. Ok that's really cool.
Wild! Surely a new concept in rotory flite . And YES some will get hurt, As with all flite
and motorizied stuff
this thing looks EXTREMELY dangerous. and fun =D
using ur head as a gyro now thats brilliant!
I've been dreaming of making one of this but safety is the first thing you have to consider.
wow, props for flying that thing, it's like being under a lethal head chopping ceiling fan.-
That is awesome! Make it quiet and I'll be the military would be interested!
This is stupid.
But, I applaud this man for being intelligent enough to pull this off without hurting himself. Perhaps, one day our children will look back to this and realize that a personal flight device had been invented long before their time. One that didn't require massive, gas guzzling engines. To whoever you are, keep doing what you're doing. You're humanities best future in terms of free thinking/free development.
I remember when he first introduced his invention at Oshkosh the crash went viral I am glad that he never gave up at his dream. Fly high EAGLE!!!!!
Which engine did he use
wow that's cool... I'd like a protected cage around it though.. one that would allow sufficient air flow through it..
Just lifting off the ground, must have been a great thrill for the Wright Brothers in 1903 now its just a novelty !!
Beautiful head-chopper machine
Dude, you're a NUT; I love you! Awesome!!!!!
So for all the skeptics!!!, most people thought Leonardo's ideas of human flight were insane, and while a long time a head of most people it did inspire a couple of bicycle mechanics to try something that 99.9% of people in their time said "what could possibly go wrong(of course with the same sarcasm)" and the "waste of technology and time" was stated to them time and time again, and they were told "its good your aeroplane is wood after you crash it they can build a coffin from the wood"
awesome that was mini helicopter which acutely works
