As long as you have rotor RPM, and/or can trade altitude or airspeed for rotor RPM - you should be able to land this thing. Basically, if i understand the concept of an autogyro correctly - its like having a helicopter in a constant auto rotation condition.
Actually it wouldnt be that bad since the rotor is a free wheeling rotor and controls are still effective as long as you utilize your altitude properly. you could land this if the engine died by nosing down since controls are cable pulls on the stick. this thing cant hover like a helicopter it uses the forward motion from the prop to freewheel the rotor. the same mechanic is used in an engine out helicopter landing scenario called autorotational landing. having more forward velocity and altitude gives you more range to find a good option to emergency land. its similar to a fixed wing but instead of a fixed wing its an autorotational rotor wing. on startup there is a clutch that can give the rotor initial rotation but once you release the clutch and start moving forward the rotor is just spinning by itself from the moving air and providing lift at the same time since the leading edge and trailing edge have different angle of attack therefore different aero drag if the control cables however were not properly installed then yeah your doomed
@@damuffinman6895 When a helicopter engine fails, the pilot begins a maneuver called an autorotation. As the helicopter glides during descent, upflowing air keeps the main rotor turning and storing potential energy. To land, the pilot converts that energy into Lift to cushion the landing for a smooth touchdown.so yes, helicopters do glide.

Have you ever played a flight sim game? As weird as it might sound, flying a plane is just like flying a plane in a flight sim, except the graphics are better in reality. It was strange to me, when I did it (as part of a "face your fears thing due to me not liking heights).
@@RandoWisLuL There wasn't much movement, which is the thing that surprised me the most. I assume because we were always flying coordinated so it just ended up being ~1g straight into the seat, like you were just sitting in a seat in your house.
For those wondering, this kind of vehicle is called an Autogyro. The propellor at the back provides thrust, and the rotor is actually not powered - It spins freely.
I'm sure without a doubt that flying this machine is an exhilarating thrill, but I will also say you need the cojones of a rouge elephant to pull it off! Wow! Very cool.
Sometimes I swear I have these reoccurring dreams exactly like this. With the fields and trees and everything swaying back and forth. Except I’m not using a machine to fly rather I’m simply flying. They almost always end up with me spinning frantically out of control rather terrifyingly too lol but for those few moments I feel so free and it’s worth it. I have a horrible irrational fear of heights btw but flying is different. I’ve never actually piloted anything but I’ve flown on a plane once, rather recent too after I’ve had these dreams. But i was not scared at all. I was excited and amazed to almost live out my dreams. I wonder, are there any pilots who have an irrational fear of heights but love to fly? For me it’s standing still when the fear kicks in. Like multiple times I’ve tried to conquer that fear. I’ve jumped off a 15 foot high bridge into a river about 20 times and it was never any easier lol so I never conquered it. I also climbed my local mountains and again the fear never diminished even slightly. Yet I love those dreams still
I first saw one flying about 1984 at an air show. They "in Europe" are called "Auto Gyros", it had a VW 1600 engine a top speed of 80 miles an hour and range of 150 miles. Incredible! unfortunately here in the UK to fly one you have to have a light aircraft license.Oh well! 😞✌️
Believe me flown with respect these things are far safer than fixed wing with engine, a Cessna engine stops your in trouble, if the engine stops on gyro it doesn't fall out the sky, also can handle strong winds I've taken them to 10,000 ft treat with respect don't try to show off to friends below and maintenance check ✔️ your okay 👍🆗.

Great intro but not for me. I’ve have seen them fly from a ground view but this is a first of what really needs to happen for a flight. Thank you and have many safe flights.
these things just kill people xD a month ago 2 people my friend knew died flying on of these and every 2 aircraft crash is just with one of these things but it must be fun to fly

Gee it pulled up to a stop pretty darn quick! Not so fast taking off tho. Looks like fun!
Looks so nimble, and like one hell of a good time. I would have been afraid of winds but could have sounded worse than they were and I don't know shit about going arial (quite unfortunately!). Thanks for sharing 🙂
Building is one thing, flying is another!
Nice
Work!
damn. i could make the whole body and buy the blades, engine, wheels, seat, and bearings to make my own. thats a really simple design. the rest can be made out of structural squre tube, aluminum sheet metal, steel rods, and some steel cable.
If you had several people on these I could see this being extremely useful in a search and rescue situation
Search 100%. Idk how well it’d do with the rescue part
Looks like loads of fun.
Godspeed and Blessings to You and Yours. Thanks for sharing
That take off was so cool, I was in Flight School and piloted a Schweitzer 269 C Helicopter but had took a break because of finances but now im ready to get back into it, Still got my Pilot logs n all keep flyin bud! 😎👊🏾
Well done, great video and nice build. I'm Wayne Watson and I'm happy to see you used the Watson Tail and looks like its working fine for you. Some of the best aerial footage I've seen to date yet. Good luck and again nice looking machine.
Thanks for letting us ride along!
That was a fast landing and a quick stop. I love it 🤓
🤓🤓🤓🤓
Wow, the last approach was tide and smooth and great landing👍
That thing looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing!
Amazing! You really are a good pilot in a gyro.
Excellent pilot. Now this is flying at it's best.
If I didn't know better I'd've guessed this be a wicked weed whacker ASMR video.
Beautiful! The ability to pretty much hover in a headwind is something lost on most fixed-wing flyers too!
I flew backwards in a Cessna 152. Winds aloft was 45 at 5000 feet and in slow flight we went backwards over the ground/.
Lost, most, I'm not aware of any fixed wing aircraft that can hoover.
@@stevelaminack1516 Airplanes with big turbofans are actually quite good at hoovering, however it's much cheaper to get a roomba for that. Or did you perhaps mean "hover", because that's an entirely different story. But I can guarantee that if a pilot gets those two confused, it's gonna suck either way... ;-)
@@stevelaminack1516 almost any plane can technically hover with enough head wind. Sounds like you should fo a little research 🤔
I have always wanted one of these, I've never flown an aircraft other than drones but autogyros always seemed fun
Have you ever played a flight sim game? As weird as it might sound, flying a plane is just like flying a plane in a flight sim, except the graphics are better in reality. It was strange to me, when I did it (as part of a "face your fears thing due to me not liking heights).
Me too, sorta
You should take a lesson. Probably $150 and you will know if you like it. You will. 😉
@@jimmydesouza4375 kinda. without all the real stuff though its hard to compare. The movements, noises, ears popping, ect.
@@RandoWisLuL There wasn't much movement, which is the thing that surprised me the most. I assume because we were always flying coordinated so it just ended up being ~1g straight into the seat, like you were just sitting in a seat in your house.
This reminds me of the gyrocopter in Pilotwings 64, didn’t know it was a real thing!
Herzlichen Glückwunsch, sehr schöner Flug und tolle Aufnahmen
Gotta have big balls to fly this thing
This is awesome and amazing. What I wouldn't give to shorten my commute to work with this :)
Your commute, or your life? 😂
@@warthogA10 lolol for real.
At 40 MPH it might not shorten your commute by very much.
Поздравляю! Удачных полётов!
Спасибо!!
Incredible landing! I love auto gyros!
Wow! Very cool.
Bardzo fajnie się oglądało. Dzięki!
With the proper training and a good attitude this aircraft is as safe as houses. Showing off is what grounds these.
Yet I love those dreams still
You accurately described my feelings of flying in reality! I'm afraid to look from the balcony of the 9th floor. But flying is different :) Thank you
@@rotorfly07 thank you for sharing!
What a total blast! Fascinating aircraft principle, shame it doesn't go very fast. Massive fun factor though :) Big thumbs up from a Mooney pilot!
What a great flight! Nice flying.
I like how there’s absolutely No protective gear because this thing is a death trap 😂 I wish you safe flights man this thing looks so cool!!

First flight too, looks like an amazing lil machine but I think I'll just stick with the fixed wing for now. Great landing
@@jameshall890 flying one is definitely on my to-do list

DO NOT LAND THIS ON TOP OF DOME SHAPED STRUCTURES UNLESS YOURE VERY GOOD AT LANDING!
Cool! I’ve been interested in gyros for awhile. I fly a Challenger 2 ultralight but would love to fly one of these. Stick movements surprised me a bit there.
I fly a German MT-03 and the stick movements are nothing like this - as an experienced gyro pilot (over 200hrs) I have to agree that they surprised me too.
How are stick movements in other gyros?
@@clauschristoffero I have also flown in the Italian gyros - Magni and they, like the MT-03, are nowhere near as 'wild' as this one! Perhaps, and this is only me 'thinking out loud' the differences could be between the fact that this is a home build and the other two are factory built? I'm NOT, repeat NOT, suggesting this gyrobee isn't built correctly - it is just a 'thought' in trying to come up with an explanation!! Check out some MT-03, and Magni, gyro videos and see what you think!
Could it be that your perception of the stick movement is skewed by the view through the wide angle lens on the camera?
What is surprising about it? I don’t know much about gyros, but as a fixed wing pilot, I don’t see why it would be surprising.
Imagine flying by the wright brothers in this thing as they were testing their plane.
