Heart got the only standing ovation of the night. Can you imagine giving this performance in front of the band that made the song originally and your idols growing up.
One reason Robert was so emotional was he didn't know that his best friend/drummer's son was going to be there. Love how Jason looked up to the heavens. The other artists who sang tribute to Led, were the ones who came out on the stage at the end. Ann and Nancy stold the show.
They actually called Jason and asked him to come. He said no he had a gig that night. The band was so insulted. It wasn't until Jason walked out on stage, they realized the gig he spoke of, was them!
little known fact: kennedy center honors originally asked jason bonham to perform and they gave him a list of possible singers that did not include anne wilson. they asked him to choose who he wanted and he said "anne wilson". so we can thank jason for this amazing performance.
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. This is one of the best tributes to Led Zeppelin with Ann & Nancy doing the classic song "Stairway To Heaven". No one else could have pulled it off as well. "Heart" have had so many great hits such as "Magic Man", "Crazy on You", "Barracuda", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc.
They were crying because they had invited John's (their drummer) son to the event and he turned them down telling them he had another job to deal with. To their surprise, the event WAS that job. When he walked on stage and played the very song his father did (and brilliantly btw) it was bittersweet to them. He played his father's drums and song perfectly. RIP John Bonham💔
From left to right, the gentlemen with the ribbons around their necks are Led Zeppelin members, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page. The drummer is Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham, their original drummer who died in 1980. He is also Robert Plant's godson. The singer is Ann Wilson from Heart and the blond guitarist is Nancy Wilson, her sister. This was in 2012, so Ann was 62 when she performed this. She just dropped a duet with David Draiman on Disturbed's latest album in November. In her early 70s, she is still killing it and THE rock goddess, as far as I'm concerned! Check out Heart from the 70s and 80s. Start with "Crazy On You" or "Barracuda." Ann's voice is insane in a different way in her younger years, it just aged like fine wine ... can you tell I fangirl over her? Lol. BTW, you were close ... it wasn't Phylicia Rashad, but her sister, Debbie Allen in the audience!
Seriously, one of the best tributes to any band I have ever watched. It makes me emotional each time I watch. Ann Wilson absolutely killed at this song, didn't she? Led Zeppelin has so many great songs , you can not go wrong with most of their catalog.
This was the most incredible performance ever at the Kennedy Center. Simply amazing. I can watch it over and over. The way it builds and builds to an exceptional ending is mind-blowing. Heart was the best . Incredible voice.
Can you imagine the pressure of standing in front of the creators of this masterpiece and not only performing it but doing it so beautifully that you made Robert Plant cry.
Anne Wilson was doing this at 62 so you need to see her and sis Nancy from the 1970's til now. The bowler hats were to honor John Bonham their late drummer, his son is playing the drums. Lenny and the others also did tributes to Led, watch the Kennedy Center honors, they are so good.
Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece so quickly and, reading our comments. You are being introduced to the Greatest Female Rockers in the History of Rock! Sisters - Ann, a master vocalist. Nancy a master guitarist! A must discover!! Live when you can is highly recommended! Crazy on You Straight On Battle of Evermore (Zeppelin cover) These Dreams
On my opinion, the most impressive part is that Jason Bonham took the place of his father on the drums. The same situation, the foo fighters going through. And let's say Jason for the LZ cover did a same great job as Jason Hawkins for his Dad's reminicance. Bless them!!!
I know words are just words & in the end it makes no difference, but it bothers me when people refer to this as a “cover”. This is a TRIBUTE, that’s a whole different thing. Not only is it a tribute, but it is a tribute by rock queens to rock kings, and it’s one of the most iconic moments in rock & roll history. Absolutely incredible- the Wilson sisters are amazing.
I read that the reason Robert Plant teared up is that the late Led Zeppelin drummer Jon Bonham was his best friend. During this Performance he was thinking about Jon wishing he was there to see it. Robert is Jon's Son Jason (the drummer in during this performance) Godfather.
I hope you went and checked out the original version by Led Zeppelin as well, and that you realize the old guys in the audience are members of that band.
Some days all you need is a little Ann and Nancy Wilson and then to have them show so much respect for such an iconic song is just icing on the cake. Robert Plant has said he hates when people cover their songs but was in tears at the end. It was a great nod to John by having Jason playing the kit with the trademark Boller hat then the choir had it at the end.
Man I have to say, I truly did enjoy your reaction. I love how you even went to the trouble to figure out it was about four decades later and marveled at it which is what I do whenever I see that. It's just crazy to think. And taking the World by storm by Reinventing rock and roll in the late 1960s and into the 1970s, and just becoming a supergroup, that they ever ever ever in their lives would have imagined themselves decades and decades later as older men wearing tuxedos at a tribute at the Lincoln Center with the President and First Lady in attendance? That's just insane.
This is the best cover version of any song.... ever... And I am old enough to have gone to see Led Zeppelin in a 3,000 seat theatre and hear them do this live... Damn we were lucky in the Seventies.
Ann killed it. There's no other voice like hers, she's legendary. This is the ultimate tribute, if you're gonna do it, you better do it up right if you're gonna play Stairway in front of Zeppelin lol And they brought it. I cry every time I see this. Definitely check out more of both bands, Zeppelin and Heart.
You should also start digging into the Led Zeppelin catalog of songs. Especially the seven studio albums. All four members were extremely talented at their craft. They could play soft melodies, blues, hard rock. If you want a sample of their ability to do blues, check out the studio version of "Since I've Been Loving You" from their 3rd album. But my personal favorite is "Kashmir" performed live at the Celebration Day Concert in 2007 at London's O2 Arena. Their late drummer's son, Jason Bonham, hit the skins in place of his dad and kills it. Unfortunately, John Bonham died in 1980. R.I.P. Bonzo.
You had the leaders of a Hall of Fame rock group, paying tribute to arguably the greatest hard rock band of all time, playing one of the best covers ever, of one of rocks most iconic songs! ❤
Lenny Kravitz's version of "Whole Lotta Love" at this same event is pretty spectacular...And you get to see a sitting President sing the words "Want a whole lotta love"...
😳 I'm more amazed you have no idea who these musicians are... the single best song ever sang or written in the history of music, by one of the most powerful women singers of all time.... I'm so happy you broadened your horizons for this.. it's one of my favorite covers of stairway, but nothing beats Led getting their groove on!
One of THE BEST voices in all of music over the past 50 years!! Even as a child, her voice captivated me over the radio. And, that was Phyilcia Rashad's sister, Debbie Allen.
I'm 58 yrs old, grew up listening to Zeppelin and Heart...I cried listening to this and watching it. There's no one on this plant that could do Zeppelin justice other than Heart!! They brought the house down with this tribute!!! Heart, Ann and Nancy Wilson here, were deeply influenced by Led Zeppelin. You definitely need to do some reaction videos to Heart's music, especially Barracuda!! 😊
Hey man. Thanks so much for reacting to this one. If you would have told me that anyone could do a Zeppelin song this well, I would not have believed it. Like you said, "Now That's A Tribute". You should also check out some of Heart"s music. "Barracuda" would be a good place to start. Peace.
The reason Robert cried is he seen his song done by a full orchestra. And Ann was fantastic. But was really wild, I worked Stevie Nicks and Heart was back up. Heart's last encore was this song. The had to set back Stevie's start time cause the crowd was going wild.
5:00 I'm at the point where you said he's crying, he's definitely trying to stop himself from crying right now. Yeah that is John Paul Jones on the left, played the bass and keyboards and lots of other stuff. That is the lead singer and frontman Robert Plant in the middle with the brown curly hair, and then that is one of the most famous guitar players of all time, Jimmy Page on the right. What the more distinguish older gray hair that is swept back. I think it's fascinating that you saw the original just recently and then here is that Lincoln Center tribute to them literally decades and decades later. And it is so emotional and moving because the death of the incredible John Bonham, their drummer and friend, at way too young of an age, abruptly ended Led Zeppelin right when they were at this massive supergroup level of popularity and accomplishment. It was just so sad. It was only a few years after the Lynyrd Skynyrd plane crash that ended that incredible band. These are some of the greatest bands in rock and roll. And in fact Stairway to Heaven here by Led Zeppelin and Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd are really the two most anthemic songs of all rock and roll. Every time it is revealed that there is Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son at the drums. And when his time comes and they put the spotlight on him, almost always get choked with emotion and there you see the others, particularly Robert Plant doing the same. It's just too much you know. It's just too much. I can't remember if you have reacted to Heart yet, definitely check out Magic Man and Barracuda and crazy on you, and if you do crazy on you, definitely do one of the live Clips where you have and Wilson on guitar doing her acoustic intro to Crazy On You.
Heart - Ann (vocals) and Nancy (guitar) Wilson - sisters - are incredible. Icons of Rock. Nancy is the best female guitarist and can hold her own to most other famous guitarists. You need to check out more of their songs. Crazy, Barracuda, Magic Man.. the list goes on. You are in for a treat with them.
The three guys with the medals around their necks are Led Zeppelin. Left to right, John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page. Jason Bonham on drums, is the son of LZ's original drummer, John Bonham. John Bonham and Plant were best friends. I think seeing Jason on drums made him weep for the loss of John. Thank you! Can't watch this performance enough! Did you notice the Obamas in the audience? Like others have said, the reason Robert Plant was crying was seeing the son of the original drummer (John Bonham) drumming - it was a surprise! And since you don't know who Heart is, next listen to "Barracuda." It will blow your mind!
If you have time to do so.. you should consider watching this entire segment (22 minutes) from The Kennedy Honors.. it starts with Jack Black intro, and includes the Foos, Lenny Kravetz and a few others. This is the end of the ‘singers tributes’.
Loved your reaction! 💯🔥 I hope you check out some of Heart's tracks from the past 40 years now also. I don't think anyone else could have pulled this off as well as them.
Love your channel! Like to suggest Two really great song..all time favorites ❤ Whiter Shade of Pale ,Poco Harlem and White Room by Cream. You'll never forget these!!!!! Please and thank you so much❤❤❤❤❤ oh and Freddie Forever❤❤❤❤
This is just the finale of the tribute. All the people on the stage at the end played in the full tribute (which is also available as a video on YT). Jack Black did the voice over for the montage of photos and videos they showed of Led Zeppelin itself in concert through the years. Ann and Nancy killed it, yes, but Lenny and the FooFighters did some good work, too! :D
Ann & Nancy Wilson and their band "Heart" are legends in their own right. The song "Barracuda" is said to be "the best Led Zep song that wasn't Led Zep." That goes to show just how much Heart (and countless other musicians) were influenced by Led Zeppelin. You should react to some Heart songs such as "Barracuda," "Crazy on You," and "Magic Man."
Do yourself a favor and watch Led Zeppelin’s performance of “Kashmir” from the Celebration Day concert in 2007. Even at almost 60, they still rock better than most of today’s performers who are in their “prime”.
Robert Plant has publicly stated that he absolutely HATES it when bands try to cover "Stairway to Heaven"...but that Heart is the one band which he enjoys hearing this from. Personally, I think that part of the reason is that Heart doesn't try to simply re-create Led Zeppelin's song; instead, they lend their own musical styles and influences to their version - all while keeping the original as the "truth" behind their music.
John Bonham's son Jason playing drums here. If you check out the 'Song Remains the Same' video concert from MSG. There's a jam titled 'Moby Dick' where during his drum solo a video is played where you can see John with his toddler son Jason hitting the drums
Dang that takes some cajones to perform that guitar solo before Jimmy Page! I believe they brought in the Howard University Gospel Choir. Weren’t they fabulous?
Heart got the only standing ovation of the night. Can you imagine giving this performance in front of the band that made the song originally and your idols growing up.
One of the best voices in rock...ann wilson, guitar her sister, nancy...the faces of HEART❤

You should definitely delve deep into the Heart rabbit hole! Barracuda, crazy on You or Magic man are great ones to start with.
If you don't know who Ann (or Nancy) Wilson are, you need to check out the music of Heart. The whole band is phenomenal.
The Zep only told two ppl they could sing their songs whenever they wanted and you're looking at them.
Those 2 girls are sisters. A band called Heart..check out Barracuda
you should check them out " Heart" love their music!
❤️❤️❤️
John Bonham's son Jason playing drums here. If you check out the 'Song Remains the Same' video concert from MSG. There's a jam titled 'Moby Dick' where during his drum solo a video is played where you can see John with his toddler son Jason hitting the drums
Dang that takes some cajones to perform that guitar solo before Jimmy Page!
I believe they brought in the Howard University Gospel Choir. Weren’t they fabulous?
I had the same reaction the first time I heard that song... 50 years ago.
You should watch the whole concert
