  • In this video I remove the fuel pump, syphon out the fuel, clean the tank and replace the strainer on the end of the fuel pump before replacing. I then installed a new inline fuel filter which can be found on eBay - Universal FSE Sytec Motorsport Fuel Injection Filter 8mm (£13.94).
    I also replace the fuel injector with one from a G650GS Sertao motorcycle.

    Really appreciating your videos right now! My 01 stops starting when the weather dips below 50°f. I just adjusted the valves, and after buttoning things up, I inherited the stalling issue you did. Going to check all of my electrics now and my air intake sensor. Crack on!

      Thanks Sam. Such a shame you also have the stalling issue, it’s so frustrating. Mine hasn’t stalled again yet but it is early days. I still need to check the metal splinter build up in the crankcase but it’s so cold out there I’m struggling to find the motivation to go in to the garage :P

    Hi Katy - Thanks for sharing the fuel filter type - looks like over here that's a WIX 33482 ($13) which belongs to an '82 Corvette. :-) I will try one on my f650gs in the Spring! Hope you're well. -Cliff

      Spring sounds like a sensible time to carry on with maintenance/repair work, good luck installing the filter. I think my work will slow down a bit now over the next few months, it’s too easy to stay inside in the warm. :P

    Well done for persisting with this bike in a situation where many before have given up. Still cannot get over the unnecessary amount and levels of unnecessary sophistication built into what should be a simple 650cc DOHC single. Hope it behaves itself from now on.

    I had overheating issues, the fan would come on quite often even with simple cruising around 20°C. Was battling this last year my whole 10day trip around SLO-HR-IT-AU (in HR the temp was like 35-40°C so not good ), the fan kept the bike running but I thought it's ridiculous when cruising at 100kph fan coming on every 10 minutes lol. Only at night in Dolomites when the temps got to 15°C the fan was not coming on. Nothing really helped - bleeding the head, adjusting coolant level, changing coolant (helped tiny bit), unplugging O2 sensor (to make the mixture more rich). Only changing the injector to one with higher flowrate (Bosch 0 280 158 124) really did something tangible. I can now cruise and even ride quite spirited at 25°C ambient and the fan doesn't come on. And I have neoprene gaitors and cooler guards (which acc. BMW make the bike overheat lol). Might be different when the ambient is 40°C but I'm quite satisfied so far. Maybe I will unplug O2 again, but currently testing mileage with the new injector, seems good so far. Edit: ANd yeah I checked the intake valve clearances before doing this they were well within specs.

    • @kovrcek
      @kovrcek Год назад +1

      oh yeah btw the fuel filter I'm using is from Skoda Fabia, Audi uses it as well I think - MANN WK69/2 (14€). So far like 20000 kms on it no issues, but I never experienced the bike with the original filter so maybe there is a difference (heard it makes the mixture richer but that was certainly not my case as the post above indicates).

      Thanks for all the info, hopefully this will help other f650 riders. I hope your bike is still running good. I haven’t been able to ride for a while but I took Monster out for a short spin today. Not yet convinced that the stalling issue is cured but need to do a few more miles on her first. The fork is now leaking too so that’ll be my next job to replace the seals. One thing after the next!

      @@HaynesGarage I removed radiator guards since (touratech ali copy) and the bike can keep itself cool even in 35°C ambient. So there was an effect lol. Also my water pump failed (gears munched - thought the stuff in oil was a seal but it was seal and pieces of those gears). So far I removed the stupid mechanical pump and replaced it with bosch electric pump for coolant. Working a treat, so far around 500kms on it. Yeah I'm planning to do suspension this winter. Will looking forward to your video :)

      I haven’t taken it for enough rides yet to definitely say the stalling issue is fixed but it does seem to be running ok so far. I still plan to check the metallic particle build up on the crank sensor too as an extra safety measure. I hope you manage to get yours sorted as it’s a horrible experience stalling at high speed. Take care.
