    Underrated Pumpkins classic, with great dynamics. They pull back twice during the song, the final buildup from about 2:19 is brilliantly executed, with the guitars crashing in at 2:56 and then the solo from Billy finally cutting loose at 3:08. Add in an evocative fan-made video that adds a nostalgic feel of SP 1988-2000 and reminds us how great and unique they really were.

    • @ScottChicago
      @ScottChicago Год назад +4

      Absolutely! My thought as well. As a Chicago dude who watched the Pumkins come up, and living near Billy Corgan, I was even more intrigued. The music was intense (Gish & Siamees Dream) and totally unique at the time. Rock God and proud Chicago dude. When Steve Albini produced Nevermind, he came straight from working with Billy C, he shared a lot of Corgan's guitar sound. Don't get me wrong, I love Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. The Smashing Pumpkins did not get the attention they deserved for leading this style.

    • @Acid78
      @Acid78 Год назад +4

      @@ScottChicago You mean Butch Vig buddy. He produced first Gish, then Nevermind and finally Siamese Dream. Steve Albini produced In Utero and had a completely different working method than Butch as Kurt and Nirvana never really liked the "overproduced" sound of Nevermind.

    If Billy is really honest with himself, he knows why people in general connect far more to the Pumpkins music from '91-00 than '08-present. It has nothing to do with nostalgia or a desire for the band to record Siamese Dream II. There is simply no comparison between the musicianship and melodic elements of a song like this and any song he's put out since the reformation. That's not to say there hasn't be some good pieces of music, but nothing has come close to capturing the essence of what made this band great or reached the lofty heights of that greatness. What long-time fans have a problem with is Billy's penchant for growth and evolution through subtraction. Instead of building on and driving onto new territory with the playing skills and quintessential elements that made their sound so unique, Billy has pretty much rejected all of that for the last 20+ years and attempted to reinvent the wagon. The sad thing is, he can't simply turn on "the voice" or guitar playing skills anymore because they've been neglected for so long. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would develop such a singular talent and then basically forsake it.

    Not everyone can feel honored
    To be in love, to feel love

    Anything that you wanted
    To be in love, to feel love all around
    Turn me on, let me speak
    From my heart, I receive
    Plain happiness, just happiness
    You and me

    To hide the things that trouble you
    (feel love around)

    (feel love around)
    Let me speak all my peace
    (feel love around)
    Just believe what you keep
    (feel love around)
    You'll never need to hurry me
    (feel love around)

    2001, felt like it's the end of The Smashing Pumpkin, for good, for period, case close. Here they are now, Cyr single, in Alternative Airplay chart, just disbelief about their return. 2020 suck or beautiful, you tell me. My idol, period.

    I’d just left for college and they released this just before the original four “for REAL for real” broke up. I can’t not hear this as kind of an “end of an era” song. It’s epic and bittersweet.

    When was this song recorded? I am not familiar with it, but it sounds like their "classic sound" and I love it immediately. The squealing lead tone at the end is awesome, I wonder what pedal gives that quality besides fuzz.

      November 2000 right before their "final" shows on 11/29/00 and 12/02/00. Billy "dropped" this song on local FM rock station Q101 on 11/29/00 earlier in the day before their show at the United Center that night. There is a second music video for the song which was an Easter egg on their 1991-2000 greatest hits DVD which shows them recording the song at Chicago Recording Company.

    You know one of my college buddies turned me on to Smashing Pumpkins and he said listen to that which was Gish and I was blown away because to me they didn’t sound like anyone else. Billy’s vocals were very unique, his and James guitar 🎸 playing very original and inspirational, Darcy with her own ice Queen vibe, and Jimmy’s very unique approach to playing aggressively and then quietly and then amazing dexterity with ghost notes on the snare and toms with jazz flavoring! So to sum up they didn’t sound like any group at their time not grunge, soft rock, not alternative, not Progressive rock just their own unique sound which was unheard before ala Van Halen or Jimi Hendrix where right of the Shute as a listener you were going what’s this? I don’t know but I like this! Saw the Gish tour and then Siamese Dream tour as part of LOLLAPOLOOZA! Love the guys! I do miss Darcy though! Just sayin 💔
