If it was from the 90's, it'd have a bridge and an actual chorus with a chord pattern change, and Billy would have a lot more variation in his vocal tone (i.e. more breathiness/softness at parts). The strummed riff is reminiscent of 1979 but the rest of the song lacks similar novelty. This sounds like a 95 era riff but with 2001 song structure, vocal melody, and vocal tone.
Me too! I wish D’arcy could. I think she has too many problems and Billy pro isn’t the easiest person to deal with. She’s also very stage frightened from what I hear. So that’s ok. She needs to do what’s right for her. Just miss the original band lineup.
@A A its like a reflection of 1979 chorus isn't the same, but they as the original core of the band they sound really good for being an older band at this point.
Well it does have James back on guitar and Jimmy back on drums again. I doubt Darcy will ever come back so this is probably as close as we'll ever get to the original band.
4:04 is a band called “Drab Majesty”. Their music is absolutely ethereal, look them up. Trip to see my favourite 90s band and my favourite current band in the same video.
@@pepper5187 She will never come back. Between her own issues and the huge rift between her and Billy she will never step foot on stage or in studio with SP.
Jeez, 20 years later and he's still got the voice of a rockstar! My aunt and I always listen to Smashing Pumpkin's when I was growing up. She would be so happy to hear this if she could. :)
Nobody can explain the feeling of happiness and nostalgia at the same time that Smashing Pumpkins makes you feel. But I understand what many want to refer to, that feeling that makes your skin crawl with emotion. When this song came out, I felt as if I was as a child in my sister's room (who played them for me) listening to those songs from the 90s that made them great, because this one in particular has that vibe from those records. I can't wait to see you again May 6th in Mexico
this song is decent with a lame video, 2 minutes of that gaylord from sugar ray introducing it?the original video with just the lyrics on screen was far better and didnt have the cringe factor
Shake down two zero one nine......now this reminds me of the Pumpkins I fell in love with growing up! Takes me back to the early 90s.....no cell phones, no email, no internets! I loved it and I love this new song!
The guitar rhythms are fantastic. Great underlying tracks. The tone and mix is beautifully put together. Total ear candy and the backbone of this groove.
Such a simple yet beautiful crafted song by the masterful Billy Corgan ! This songs takes you back but also pushes you forward . Some have forgotten that he can pen some of the greatest rock songs , not I . The ending “ I just wanna fly ....” lol...!
I heard this track on the radio at my job. I knew it was the pumpkins by the way it sounded but didn't know of it was from 1993 or if it were new... that's how good it is
Good song. Keep it up , you guys are still body slamming it and it's almost 2019. We just want great music with the pumpkins stamp. Keep making trippy videos too
Smashing Pumpkins, you all have made good music my entire life. I've listened to you since I found you, and will continue to do so till I'm gone. Thanks for sharing your gift of music with the world. - Born 1989
This tune sounds like it was a lost track of their from the 90`s. I`m so glad that they still sound authentic and genuine. Also, this video is like some cheesy B-Horror Movie and I loved every second of it. I`m beyond happy these guys are back! As someone that was born in 96, this is my chance to experience the Oldschool Pumpkins (minus D`Arcy)
This song is very underrated... Been listening to smashing pumpkins alot lately 👌 one regret I'll always have is that I wish I appreciated them more when I was younger.
I start listening to smashing pumpkins when i was 17 years old, those days.of my life are the hardest part because we were very poor and my parents died very early,so i struggle with life to survive...And now im 41 years old and after all my hardworks, i can say that my life improves a lot,now i have my own family,my own house,my own car..and its so nice that until now my favorite band continues to make good music.
It is good that Smashing Pumpkins has the same sound that they had back in the 90s. Most artists at some point just don't sound the same that they used to, that made us fall in love with them in the first place. They lose that spark, but not Smashing Pumpkins. I love Smashing Pumpkins so much!!!
Ridiculously brilliant casting of Mark McGrath in this video. Nothing better to bring back the warm nostalgia of the Pumpkins' original lineup (err, 75% of it) than a vaguely familiar face from Mellon Collie era alternative rock. His appearance is a microcosm of how this new music has managed to touch (albeit imperfectly) some of the same crystallized emotions that keep a generation of Pumpkins fans returning to their first 5 records throughout different stages of life. Simply put, it's ultimately about the music, but the imagery here highlights those richly familiar feelings.
I remember I heard Smashing Pumpkins in a dream as a little kid and never knew they were a band till later in life when I heard them on the radio and I was like holy crap its a real sound! Smashing Pumpkins has a special place in my heart for no band takes me away from the universe and my own mind like Smashing Pumpkins 🙏
*sounds more like Zwan (circa 2003), than Pumpkins (circa 90's)..but the video's good (except for sugar ray's long winded monologue) in that it finally depicts a halloween theme for the 'smashing pumpkins' ~ only took 30 years to put those 2 things together!
I respect guys like him and Jonathan Davis for example, amongst others, for staying true to their music over the decades and having long careers as well...
Jonathan Fernandes He’s amounted to talking too much and looking animated before a SP video of a hybrid song taken from Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness.. Tough times... perhaps he’s making an “I rose from the dead” statement as I think he was struggling badly for awhile. Who knows. It was longer than this response though.
Ne Ri The delivery was strong and encouraging, classic barkism, but if you were wanting instant gradification, it may have been enraging, still, addrenalin was administered.
The intro is perhaps too long but the rest of the video looks amazing and the song is very cool. Good to see Billy wear an NWA shirt in the video too. Looking forward to the PPV.
I like how Jimmy's basically doing the "my artsy son came up with this and I'm just trying to have fun with it" thing and James is just like "wtf this is dumb" for the entire video
Nice to see Billy and James have "patched things up" and are both not only bandmates (as they're the creative behind most of their music; they're the john and Paul of the pumpkins so to speak). But not only that obviously; but at one point for a very long time they had been best friends and looks like they are once again. Once again meaning you never really ever lose a real best friend, but there can be hiccups so to speak (this one was just a very long hiccup as it took around 3-4 years).
Que chido que existan neta me siento agradecida de haber nacido y que me allá tocado escuchar su musica que bien que no fuy de otro siglo donde no estaban
Guitarists Suck tbh Mark joining them onstage was a bit odd as Sugar Ray is a totally different vibe. But I definitely call Chino Moreno, Courtney Love, Davey Havok, and Peter Hook legends. One of the best nights of my life and I can’t believe I actually got to witness a show like that
Guitarists Suck Courtney’s vocals definitely have suffered but Davey can sing. Saw him play with Dreamcar last year and he can put on a show. But at the same time he also has a style nowhere near the pumpkins. So do Dave and Mark from the killers but when they played 1979 and Cherub they did the songs justice by just playing them without incorporating their own influences. Chino singing bodies was nuts tho
Smashing pumpkins always gives me this feeling of nostalgia, sometimes for things I never experienced...I can't explain it.
Yeah same here man..everytime i heard their songs it's like im back to my high school time
100% dude

Absolutley! He knows when and when not to play, an art now lost

Best rock drummer. That was a period. . .

They're one of Billy's fav bands lately.
