Dude your 5600x was running over 90c at half usage. That's not good
I'd be shitting bricks if my cpu was at that temp
@@BastosFC2 keeping the 5000 series on lower temps is hard to do but I still haven’t seen mine over 90 😭

Also really depends on what kind of games you play and how fast the RAM is. Going from 16 to 32 @3600Mhz had a fair impact for me on games like Dyson Sphere Program, Oxygen not Included and similar games.
Cool video. I like your format.
i use 3200mhz
Any new game is easily going over 16gb so I'd get 32.
Now get 3600mhz c14
What's up. Thanks for taking the time to benchmark everything. I'm looking at your CPU temps and it is possibly hitting the wall as far as thermals go. I'd address that before benchmarking max speeds. Also, you never mentioned what timings on the 32gb ram you bought-- it makes a huge difference. Keep it up. You're a great presenter
holly molly 97C on CPU lol
yes 16gb is enough for most, but my laptop has 64gb in order to run my super un-optimized machine learning algorithms. more ram is always more fun IMO. The servers I use at work have multiple terabytes of ram which is just ridiculous for home use but pretty normal in the enterprise world. Nice basic overview of ram for those who don't know, hope the channel goes somewhere.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! YEAH WHEN IT COMES TO VIDEO EDITING AND OTHER HIGH DEMANDING PROGRAMS, THE MORE RAM THE BETTER.
good you can run your minecraft server smoothly
Very Helpful!
I had a ryzen laptop with 64GB RAM with Virtual memory disabled :). only 6 tabs of Edge including youtube, it occupied 10.7GB . imagine running gaming when your system memory only have 16GB
32GB DDR4 Ram is so cheap right now, even for good 3200Mhz CL16 is half the price it used to be. It’s worth the upgrade from 16GB when it’s only about $125 right now or $80 USD
Its abou 35 usd now in my country
bro its 60 euros here $125 sounds like a lot, just go for 16gb ddr5 instead
I have a similar rig. Went from 16gb to 32gb 3600mhz felt much smoother gaming and streaming on a. Single setup
not every ram is the same, there is more to ram then just the size and the mhz... you can have two nearly equal builds, with both systems using 32gb of ram with 2666mhz but lets say the one pc has on brand quality ram, while the other uses two cheap ram sticks from a dell prebuild... I can guarantee that the onbrand ram will perform better. (I know... because I had this exact situation where I replaced such RAM with G.Skill Ram)
@@kirisuma2186 I have trident Z royals. Started with 16gb and added two more sticks and the performance boost was noticeable. Not mind blowing but noticeable enough
If you stream on a single rig you should have got 64
Why all ppl saying that going from 16gb to 32gb felt smoother, while all the tests i see shows directly the opposite, specifically that 0.1 and 1 percents are lower on 32gb, means that it should feel less smother then 16gb in most games. Where is the trick??
@@kirisuma2186 been thinking about getting some g skills. the good bins are so pricy tho
RUST: Allow me to take 20gb of your 32gb of ram just to run my game that looks like its from 2010 and allow me to make your 3090ti get a small 50fps regardless of your settings.
Hey one question was were u using your cpu or gpu to encode the video well recording? And If u could do u know the timings for the 16gb vs 32gb because I feel that first test where 16gb won It seems like a speed issue so if both locked to 2666 mhz then I feel timing would have a partial affect.
Another thing is if you have faster ram like 3000-3600mhz will feel a lot faster when u have 32gb of it
I currently have 8GB 3200MHz RAM and only one ram slot on my laptop, should I get a 16GB 3200 or 32GB 3200 module? Is difference going to be too big?
For those who have gaming PCs with 32GB of RAM, the extra RAM is not wasted. Have a look at task manager, performance, memory and look at memory composition. The standby part of the RAM has data which is cached so it is readily available to the CPU when needed. This feature has been available since Windows Vista. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, so Windows caches as much data as possible so for example programs launch as fast as possible.
Or just boot up any modern game and it'll use more than 16.
That intro was pure Gold xD
Something might be up with those Spiderman results. Other comparisons I've seen don't have nearly as much discrepancy. Did you re-test? I'd love to see an update
Maybe cuz he's using such slow RAM, I was surprised when he mentioned what speed they're running at, so having more RAM just really made a big difference given that it's running so slow to begin with
As someone who has run up to 128gb configurations; the more ram you have the more windows will utilize for caching and rely less on compression. The less Windows has to fetch from your storage and wasting CPU cycles to decompress data the more responsive your system is. If you can help it please don't skimp on your ram; 32gb or more allows you to care less about what you have running in the background, your system should be working for you and not waste your time.
That intro says it all, loved it
32gb is becoming the new 16gb in like 2-3 years
bro the intro was golden
Nice video,
Thanks
great video, this needs to be shown to many more who don't understand
2666Mhz RAM is far to slow for Ryzen CPUs, their internal design is much more sensitive to RAM clocks and speed than an Intel CPU. Best to use 4 sticks of 8GB at least 3200Mhz/3600Mhz at CL16 for Ryzen 5000 series memory controller. Use Ryzen RAM calculator to lower primary and secondary timings, helps greatly. Combining the above can net up to 50+ fps. Search what type ICs are on the RAM before you buy, you want Samsung B-die, best for tighter clock adjustment. Your CPU is far to hot, find the issue, your losing performance. Mobo voltage to high? Fan seated properly with good paste? Get Hyper 212 fan?
if you don’t know how to deal with ram then the best option is 3600mhz c14. not all CPU’s are doing 2000 fclk stable.
Most is 3800mhz without without errors.
3600mhz c14 is about the same as 4133c16 in terms of nano seconds.
So in my opinion that’s the best out of the box specs you can get without touching frequency or timings.
The only problem with getting that kit is the kit is 1.45v.
So when it comes to overclocking to 3800mhz idk if it would be possible.
If your on intel then you have a higher chance of certain memory kits working. Intel is just less of a hassle & better when overclocked.
Ik this would’ve been a pain in the ass but it would’ve been cool seeing how much ram each game utilises
thx bruv this was really helpful
nice video man, I like your vibe
I see RAM usage in excess of 16 GB on occasion, I think having 24 GB of VRAM doesn’t load the system RAM as heavily, but I’ve been running 32 GB for 5-6 years, and don’t remember a time when I ran out of memory. I usually check my system monitors before I shut down my PC, just to make sure everything is working correctly.
Ctrl + Alt + Del it's the classic option, but I have a better one: in the Task Manager options menu, select the first option "Always Visible" and whenever you need it use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys ;)
Anyone who's been in the PC business for longer than a couple months knows that RAM requirements will go up. 16GB was fine 7 years ago. But now? Anything lower than 32 is dumb unless it's a low-end build.
I'm still with 16gb and I'm rocking with it so what's ur fucking problem mate 💀💀
Were you using the stock cooler on your cpu?
Cool video. Thanks
Enjoyed the video. I do have two questions though.
1. What is your RAM MHz? As that can make a difference on stuff as well.
2. I've found that objective measures like you did tell part of the story. But when I've tested it myself I've noticed that higher 32 GB felt noticeably smoother in game, using my system in general, and also faster Alt+Tabbing. Did you test that stuff or feel a difference?
Yep Mt/s and latency of ram kit is important but i assuming it's just average ram 3200 Mt/s cl16
great conclusion aye haha, like it
hi amd cpu's love higher ram speeds 2666mhz its a bit slow, 3000mhz,3200mhz + will make ur cpu and games and bit more good, tho ur ram kit might cant support higher speed check if you have xmp off or on your cpu Ryzen 5 5600X can run with ram speeds 3200mhz thats 534mhz more. and 16gb of ram should be alright for now. great vid man keep it up :)
Can do 4 X 8gb kit? Talk fast. I gave extra kit in my amazing cart ready to go for tonight.
I've made the upgrade to 32 Gb RAM recently and performance -ise there is not much diference in gamming, but i do notice i have a more stable frametime and less 1% lows stuttering. Those annoying micro stutters that happen every 30seconds or so are now less frequent. If it's worth to dish out $50 more for extra 16gb, yeah sure i think so, DDR4 ram is so cheap now that it's realy not an issue to decide if it's worth it.
when you start getting into really good ram it gets expensive lol. I been thinking about upgrading to 4000mhz c16-16-16-36 or c19-19-19-39 for my ryzen 5900x / 3060.
there’s kits that are way less then 257-268 but i don’t understand overclocking ram, so i rather get better ram that’s already tuned.
idk if i should upgrade my ram or get a rtx 3070 to upgrade.
Raise your clock speed or enable xmp profile you'll see a bigger difference
@@anhero5526 already saw a difference when going from 3600 to 4000 but it wasn’t stable because my kit just can’t do 4000. so I had to settle for 3800mhz. I left the timings alone since I don’t know about timings.
3800 is good but 4000mhz makes a difference. that’s another 12-20%
@@silfrido1768 You realy realy realy don't need expensive RAM, its a waste of money. beyond 3600 CL16 you realy are wasting your money. I would definately invest in a better GPU, but i wouldn't pick the 3070 either unless you realy want raytracing, i would go with a 6800xt or a 7800xt atm depending on deals.
@@adomingues00 better ram makes a difference. Some games need it. In reality I don’t need to spend 257 -268$ on ram, but if it makes my games even smoother then why not.
Rn I’m using a 5900x with a 3060. been looking to get a 3070. which will give me better performance. then if I get better ram it will bring up my average, 1%lows - 0.1%lows, better frame pacing & overall fps.
my system is already good but getting a 3070 & good ram will make it better.
That opening XD
In DX11 and OpenGL the main RAM is used as backing store in case VRAM runs out, so if you were hoping to utilise a massive amount of VRAM, you have super high res textures selected etc, you better have that same amount of main RAM plus a bunch more. In DX12 and Vulkan this is no longer the case, the applications must simply ensure that VRAM doesn't run out, there is no implicit copy; thus you need less main RAM and more VRAM. I don't anticipate games requiring more than 16GB in foreseeable future.
Cyberpunk is nigh on unplayable on 8GB main RAM though, bloody stuttery mess. 16GB is more like it. Well at least when playing off a hard disk, i haven't put it on SSD.
And so yeah i think if there are any high-end-ish games around that still use DX11, maybe they could be worth including in the test. Though i can't promise that the result will be all too different, since for the time being, 16GB is what most people are expected to have and 8GB is still something gamedevs often target as a min spec.
And yet, nobody has ever in the history of mankind complained about having too much RAM that i know of, but they do complain about having too little. Streaming is of course a case, since a typical setup has at least a few extra Chrome instances running even just within the streaming software, handling chat and overlays/alerts and such. When running off a spinny platter hard disk, extra RAM is also an extra disk buffer, which can make it less unpleasant.
Oh here's another thing. I wonder how Intel GPUs when they finally arrive will handle this, whether they will have implicit data copies even under DX12. Because i have a feeling Intel is struggling with something closely related, whether this might be the stopgap. Because previously all of their GPUs (even the Lockheed Martin derived i740 which still had VRAM) had a RAM side channel and the only allocation strategy supported by the driver was to put things into main RAM, and they'd simply steal the memory controller from underneath the CPU whenever they wanted.
actually there are some games where 16 to 32 can make the difference between playable and unplayable... Star Citizen comes to mind, then again Star Citizen is less of a Game and more of a eternal Alpha...
I've been using 32gb for 2 years now, the only thing that has ever used more than 15gb RAM was premiere pro
and the garbage unoptimized RUST game xD uses like 17gb just to even run that piece of crap game lol
For me it's been premier pro and cities skylines
That 32gb kit must be slower then, cas latency, mhz speed, single vs dual rank changes these results
That's what I am thinking, too. The 16gb Crucial he used for that test is notorious for hitting and maintaining max speeds (one reason why I am a fan of Crucial RAM cards). For Cyber Punk, that 32gb of RAM should have smashed the 16gb test in comparison - that game is known to be a memory hog.
Bro, check your CPU cooler. (might need to repaste it)
Your CPU temps are not good. 90-95c is very high and almost at thermal limit - and that is with a *gaming load (*not 100% loaded).
I also note your CPU wattage readings looks reasonable, so unless you have it running @40+c ambient temps, the cooler mount should be checked.
YES GOOD EYE I HAVE REPLACED THE COOLER SINCE THEN SO MY TEMPS ARE WAY BETTER NOW
Watching this after Hogwarts Legacy- 16gb belongs to the past now
Don't play that shit game fool, play RDR 2, watch dogs 2 and more PS,4/Xbox one era games. I'm completely fine with it and better than crappy games released in 2022 or above lmao
yeooooo i saw you on tiktok gotta sub you
I play Fortnite so much with 16 gb ram it way okay but stutters sometimes but when I upgrade to 32 gb its soooo smoooooth like it should 😁😁👍👍
32gb spiderman Avg 98.1 ,but max is 95.3 ??? explain
Thanks man.... good to know I'm good at 16!
Ok the specs portion makes sense now why rust randomly just crashes on me with 16gb of ram. On average it’s using 10gb leaving 6ish for everything else. Which tells me that at random points with likely steam client in the background and discord something eats up the remainder and crashes it.
I’m just gonna smack up to 32gb just to gain stability and not have a game crash. Plus it was a used pc and getting new fresh ram couldn’t hurt.
Typo at 6:30 ? 98.1 AVG and 95.3 MAX should probably be switched around.
Did you turn on xmp in the bios?

Bro, get some Gskill 3200mhz ram at least. Far faster than you have with much tighter timings with xmp enabled. You didn't mention your mobo but it may even support 3600mhz but for the money ( Slower timings at 3600mhz aren't as good as tight low timings of 3200mhz) as it stands even now, 3200mhz will be a noticeable upgrade.
Also during your tests you need to take ambient temperatures into account with air cooling. If your test area is 70 degrees(night) vs 76 degrees(afternoon) you will certainly see a difference in case and component temps that will effect clock speeds and possible throttling.
I'm guessing dude probably downclocked the ram to match eachother because maybe he has mismatched spec kits.
I upgraded my pc from DDR4 to a DDR5 motherboard. The new motherboard runs slower with DDR5. Despite it being 5600 DRAM it only runs at 4800 on my 12100. For 5600 i need at least a 12700k
Not surprised from those benchmarks when CPU bottolneck and struggle a loot, make no since for high end builds to use 16gb ram mem, have 5800X3D with rx 6950xt, I test out 3200Mhz 16-18-18-18-36cl 16gb vs 32gb 2933Mhz 16cl as 2 mixed ram memmory, clear win for 32gb when I look at lowest fps and 1% lows.
16gb is not enough, I think it would even be better if I pair right ram memmory at 3200Mhz insted of using 2 diff ram.
Nice entry 😮😮
Really stupid question.....would 4 8gb sticks act differently than 2 16gb sticks?
Yes actually it would work a bit better using 4
the intro is damn funny
Thanks, to the point.
it depends on the other specs for example on fortnite I get around 200 -220 fps with 16 gb of ram, and he was getting less than 100 fps
he's playing 4k ultra
Imagine getting 800fps
if your into games like city skylines and civilization
i think 32gb is the way to go
What would help even more is faster ram. for for ryzen get 3600mts ram, 2666 will be a noticeable drop in fps by comparison in most software.
I was going to say the same.... great vid
Or 3200 16cl has even less latency
@@TsunaDragon2 3600 cl18 also. Same latency for cl, but faster throughput. Of course this depends on other timings, which often matters more than cl.

BRUH DAT INTRO😂😂
I mean i know what u mean, but I decided for 32gb, idk why but Emulators Took all of my ram when i had only 16gb, cyberpunk was running laggy cuz of it needing more ram and stuff in generall is laggy, getting a whole new package, Like a better Prozessor, 32gb ram (slower than before - went from 4266mhz to the biggest supported one for the 5800x so 3200mhz), a new Stunning Mainboard and Some random Cooling
you should redo this because ram can have different timings so that can also affect gaming a lot
Going into 2023 anyone building a new pc should just get 32gb. New games are beginning to benefit from the more ram.
Yup I have an 8gb single stick of ram in this prebuilt I got, games stutter and bottleneck a lot. I just ordered 2x16gb of ram so I hope to see a noticeable difference. especially as I want to run two screens and watch videos and edit while gaming

OLED 2.5K 240 Hz
Intel Core Ultra 9
16 GB RAM
GeForce RTX 4070

Please keep in mind that the ram in these laptops is soldered in so I don’t have the option to upgrade it later on.
What I really want is the G16. I really want the larger display (since it’ll be the only display I’ll have) and the dark grey color it comes in (unlike the g14 which only comes in a white color). It also has a higher refresh rate, and a better CPU. Everything about it is better…except for the ram.
I’m worried that I’ll face problems with the RAM in the long run since I’m planning on keeping this laptop for atleast 5 years.
I’m getting this for some gaming (mainly games such as COD, GTA, and some others) in addition to school work (which won’t be demanding). I like everything about the G16 more except for obviously the ram. Do you think this difference in ram is worth me choosing the g14 instead?

I think the only games were 32 GB ram makes a difference are:
Ark Survival Evolved and Microsoft Flight Simulator

ps: I never see them in tests... Everyone test games like Forthcrap, Minecraps and other games like that were having more ram makes no difference
harry potter used 26gb of ram..
Hogwarts Legacy and Last of us Part 1 need 32 GB Ram.. 16 gb is not enough for these two new unoptimized games
@@svenkatpollachi So only unoptimized crap games needs 32 GB mem. And not because the game really needs 32 GB, but because the devs released the game in an unoptimised crap state. Most likely if the games would be properly optimised, they will do fine with 16 GB.
And yes, as new games make their way out of development we will probably see more games that needs more than 16 GB ram. That is normal, tecnology advances every year... Yesterday the NVIDIA guys were selling their cards with 400-700 $, today they want 1500 $$... It's normal, everything inflates...
