  • This is a reading of Stephen King's introduction to the 1985 The Bachman Books: Four Early Novels by Stephen King (now out of print). His intro is called "Why I Was Bachman" and reads differently from his 1996 "The Importance of Being Bachman" which is part of the current publication of The Long Walk. (In the video I say this book was published in 1986, but it was 1985. Oops.)
Recorded for my Stephen King book club because we'll read Bachman books this year (2023).

You’re welcome. You actually CAN track this book down, but only used. It’s significant to me that King never had this forward reprinted, even in new publications of Bachman novels. Maybe it had too many gut-honest statements about how his mind used to work.

I always thought that the reason King used Bachman was because his publishers or agents forbade him to write too many books per year and so dilute the impact of each book. Thanks for reading this since it’s out of print. I really enjoy his books and King is pretty weird isn’t he.😆

You’re welcome. Yup, he’s weird. That’s why I run a book club that reads only his writing.
