You can talk to your friends who have fruit trees. See if they'll let you pick a bucket full. If you have friends that raise chickens? You can come up with a trade agreement. I do this a lot. I get farm eggs for free but in turn I'll make something for her, such as homemade pickles or home baked bread, since she doesn't bake. Another frugal thing I do is I crochet "soap pockets". It's a crocheted scrubby that you can tie shut. I gather all the little slivers of soap and put them in the pocket. In the end you have a no waste soap scrubby for your handwashing or showering.

I love your trade agreement! Then you don't have to pay for farm fresh eggs!

I roast a chicken. Debone it. I put the juices and bones in a pot and boil for 30 minutes. I pour the broth into a container and freeze. I use the fat that comes to the top to saute veggies. Then the broth into make soup.
I also freeze my veggie scraps to add to my bones when making broth.

Just cover with water when boiling. I add 1 tsp salt and apple cider vinegar to the pot.

Italian almond cake - for sweet tooths, who can't eat wheat.
Or, have you ever tried Whacky Cake?
420 g flour (most gluten free work good here)
    100g brown sugar
200g white sugar (or you can use all same white)
    50g cocoa powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons of baking powder
    1,5 teaspoons vanilla
    70g cooking oil
75g unsalted dairyfree margarine ( can be replaced by oil)
    150 ml strong coffee
150 ml vegan milk (can be replaced by water)
    175 ml water
Heat your oven to 355 F /180 C. Prepare the pan with paper all up to the edges (it will stick). coffee needs to be cold. Before making the cake mix, microwave melt the margarine and oil together until they are all melted, let it cool down a bit. Mix all the ingredients together, pour into the pan and immediately put into the oven. Cook for 30 minutes, or until it no longer wobbles. Lower the heat if need and let it cook slightly longer, testing about every 5 minutes. Really depends on the oven. Cool completely before using.
Makes fantastic cake base for birthday cakes.
Works well for anyone with problems with milk, gluten or eggs.
Also, old war time recipes are goldmine for gluten problems, becauae they teach you how to replace things.
    Hope it helps!

Fruit can work as an inexpensive dessert if you buy your fruit in season and buy the cheapest fruit at the time at the grocery store. It’s when people go buying grapes for every grocery shop or kiwis that you could say it’s expensive. Bananas are one of the cheapest produce you can buy at the store. And in my area at Christmas time clementine are cheaper. Apples in the fall are cheap and so are berries in the summer as opposed to buying berries in the winter. I buy berries in bulk when they are cheap in the summer and freeze them for later. In regards to canning, you don't need to. you can cut up veggies and freeze them or puree them like tomatoes and freeze them. for beginner gardeners, am one, it’s not that hard really as someone who tried to garden for three years and only achieve success in my third year what I can say is start small and try out easy plants for your area. I failed previously for trying to do a lot at once and the weather pattern in my area was against me the first two years, we are talking hail and a surprise snow storm in June that killed my seedlings. I have a balcony garden and this year I focused on strawberries and tomatoes which I grew from seedlings I bought and flowers which I grew from seeds. Try again if you fail and keep it simple. Gardens are not that much work either if you have a small one and are a hit with kids of all age. They like to help water and harvest. Washing my clothes less has saved on energy and made my clothes last longer. So washing clothes only when they are dirty and not necessarily after every wear.

@@laina-brown If you have a garden, then canning is beneficial for making sure nothing goes to waste. Same with fruit trees, grape vines, or berries. I think the tip of 40s housewives living to be happy was a little romanticized.

Not too happy with this advice. Cloth nappies obviously require washing, and unless by hand, it requires electricity and some kind of fuel that the power station uses which is probably used. Not to mention the in-between costs! As long as you use hand-washing of cloth diapers by organic, biodegradable soap, and don't replace, you might have to rethink your choice. And I'm not even going into the exploits within the cotton industry! Yes, I acknowledge that modern diapers include plastic!
It is just amazing how USA americans have blinkers over their eyes!! So sorry! It is no news that they have been omitted from so much information these last almost a decade. If only the information could get to them somehow... maybe this post helps!
This is just one example of so many!
These ideas of saving money has some bearing on most of the rest of the world's existence since birth, and this is very out-dated!
I think americans need to urgently learn from the rest of the world, because it probably will get MUCH worse forthwith!! I am SO sorry! Please learn ASAP!!!
Please Note: This post will be deleted soon.

Don't understand why electricity and water interruptions are a problem... not to say food issues. It is not a funny issue!!! Seems you think so. We often have to work around these issues. We have a ton of work-around plans.
Your funny presentation is not at all taken well!!!!!! Please present some proper usable options.
We have daily electricity outages for a period of 2 hours, often 3-4 times a day. Water issues also recently... just a day or two mostly... slightly for a week.
Price of food is wayyy past what most people can afford.
People can obviously not afford Internet anymore.
Okay, so how do YOU think YOU would survive in such circumstances?
Disposing clothes... throwing away... are you ridiculous!!!
Your idea of gass... you might have to learn it is petrol or diesel, it costs VERY MUCH!!!
Air-conditioning... not an option... even with us in Africa. Can't think the rest of the world would need air-conditioning unless in Mexico or Indonesia of cause... same situation... if they can afford it. No other country has a hold on extra electricity usage.
