It was a game I loved and I couldn't be more excited to play the remakes. The game did have many problems but it was such an interesting experience. The vertically was amazing and made for unique gameplay. Also most of the characters had very interesting kits. Personal favorites being Wraith, Wukong, Sevarog, and Sparrow. The graphics were one of its strongest points which shouldn't come as a surprise considering it came from the home of the unreal engine. It was one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Unfortunately I no longer have a pc to play on, but as soon as I can I'll be playing the remakes.

@@EmiliaB94 While I wouldn't go as far as to say it was a cash grab, SMS promised a free to play date during the indiegogo and through early access. They accepted money under those conditions - only to fail to deliver on that specific promise. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but they have not announced a new F2P date since January 2021. It's just been swept under the rug. It is a move that lacks integrity and a slap in the face to their biggest supporters, ie. indiegogoers.
The Mantra of the discord is, "that it is not ready." Which is ironic considering the state the game was released in for early access. Also there have been many games that have gone F2P while still in early access, so the mantra doesn't make any sense to begin with.

The bigest thing is the perspective, it reduces your awareness and allows for fun stuff like less movement speed while walking backwards. If you like mobas and actiongames/shooters you might prefer paragon over other mobas, if you don't like them you probaply won't like paragon.

You couldn’t have played before the new hero every three weeks as it was like that at the start of early access and there was initially no backwards movement penalty. Sounds like you got into the game much later than you think.

@@shush2415 I remember being confused by it and it being changed to include it, but not sure. I don't remember how many heros there where when I started but sevarog (mentioned by a redit thread to be the first hero released) wasn't in the game yet.
Edit: looking back at my mail: aperantly i played during the closed testing phase and stoped after the first hero was released in the open beta.

Thank you for this concise summary on the history of Paragon! I love this game when it was active and it was the moba that got me into this genre, although league still never fill that hole for me. I look forward to when Predecessor becomes playable again!

My buddy and I still talk about this game. We were there since the beginning, on the OG map, when characters got speed boosts from the base, with the original card system, when Murdock threw traps on the ground, and when Iggy was OP with his flame turrets. My buddy was a long-time LOL player and my first MOBA was Smite, but we both agreed that Paragon was the best MOBA either of us ever played.
We hung in there through the reworks, the map change, the card changes, the nerfs and character reworks. We were sad watching our favorite game slowly decaying while the devs tried to figure out whatever they were figuring out. When Fortnite was released, my buddy and I both bought it since it was made by the same studio, back when it was just a Zombie/base defense survival game, before it was a battle royale, and it was....underwhelming to say the least. We ditched it pretty quickly and were just happy to have Paragon. I never in a million years would have thought that Fortnite would have taken off and left Paragon in the dust.
When I received the news that Paragon was done, I nearly cried. It felt like such a slap in the face that they offered to convert my money spent into Fortnite Bucks. I of course opted for the refund instead. I've heard about the Paragon remakes and I have a little hope that one of them will be able to recapture the magic. I am glad I have the memories of playing Paragon during its prime. What a game.

I ran into this game while looking for character reference images. The game was already dead when I found it, but I wished with all my heart i'd be able to play the games that are attempting to revive it. Crunch was the character that introduced me to the game, btw. Personally, I'm interested in what Predecessor will do for it. It also seems to be the farthest worked on, other than Fault, but Fault's not free, so...
All I gotta say is if Crunch ain't there, I'm not coming.

As an avid Paragon player and content creator (at the time), it was very difficult to see the announcement of its shutdown. I knew Predecessor was in good hands when I saw that ACE is one of the top three leading development. Now, more than ever, I continue to look forward to a day in which I can continue to play the game I was once so wrapped up in. Paragon would have been a Strong contender in the realm of MOBAs and perhaps would have won over the audience of its largest competitors in time.... I guess we'll see what the future holds.

I was around 14 and remember playing a hero that would gain stacks of HP5 on every basic attack, i quickly realized there was no cap so i farmed minions and constantly building and refreshing the stacks until i saw a player and literally stood in their faces, it got so ridiculous that i could wipe the entire team completely alone and completely stock by just holding down RT and forward

This is single handedly one of the best games I have played in my entire life and I have other gamers that will second and third that notion. I truly believed this game was dumbed down in order to plateau it into not getting to the point of being the equivalent of Smite. Steve Summerville if you’re reading this, do it again plssss….

I along with many others loved this game. It was approachable and engaging for beginners and complex and difficult for veterans of the game. It introduced me to MOBAs and other MOBAs have felt so lukewarm ever since. The third person shooting, map complexity and verticality all felt so right. Paragon didn’t die, it was sniffed out. The business model wasn’t as profitable as a battle royale (and the cosmetics to go with it) was.

Paragon was the first MOBA I played, and is still my favorite MOBA experience. I always tried playing as much as possible, but many people (as I've found in LoL as well) are unwilling to help someone learn. This caused me to take breaks, every time coming back to a new seemingly huge change to the game. Finally, Paragon was shut down, and I've never stopped missing it. I look forward to Predecessor, and I will be playing day 1, no doubt.

That's actually just how most markets work unless there is regulation or other systems in place to prevent it, the bigger businesses use their size to drive out the smaller businesses in their industry to then have an even bigger share of the market. It can be as direct as just buying them like this but we also see it with things like Walmart opening stores at a loss in order to starve out all the local stores that can't compete with their low prices on everything.
