One of my older brothers (I had 7!!) was playing the vynal, I had heard of them, but this song caught my attention, immediately! In 3 days I had it memorized!!! I feel incredibly humble, now ...and will start commenting more often!! Sincerely, (and I truly mean this) my name is Raelyn, but friends call me Lynda! Bye for now ....later ....
To anyone who is struggling in life, who is grieving, who is depressed, trying to make sense of a world that makes no sense, this song provides assurance that there is Someone who will be your Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Your life will turn around, as mine was. Don’t give up.
You can have a great deal of fun going around your town if you buy a few rolls of Lincoln pennies and collect them by date you can find them back to almost 1959 Paradise walk through the stores in your town. You can offer people in the stores a coin from the year they're born and if there's any women or girls show them how they're going to be 20 different pioneering American women on the back of the newly redesigned George Washington quarters play when I give someone a birth year our anniversary coin call Mother smile seems to say that I just made a friend for life play I never knew a Lincoln penny could be so encouraging🎉
Beautiful words. Thank you. Now I'm 67, old and all alone, and I fear I will not find the bridge any more. When I leave, I hope to see my best friends again: my 3 dogs and my 4 cats. This thought gives me the strength to walk the last steps. Sorry, no humans. It seems I failed.
Couldn't have said it any better, like you I grew up when this music was coming out. Live and new. Like the old expression says, you just had to be there.
I agree, but my late father made a great argument that the '30s and '40s were the best - big band sound and all...I often wonder what is missing in these last 2 generations that there are few ballads and very little heart in the rest of their music
I lost my daughter August 4th, 2010. She would have turned 52 yesterday. For some reason I have always referred to her as my "Silver girl" and the line "I'm sailing right behind" is just perfect. I'm not young anymore and I can't wait to to see her again. I just love this song, it has so many meanings for so many people, especially for me. Sail on my Silver girl.
I was 11. I felt adult feelings - sadness and hope- perhaps for the first time , truly felt them - “sail on …” I understood the letting go while being there …

Thank you, Paul, for the words and music. Thank you, Art, for the phenomenal tenor voice. And props to the piano player whose name I do not know. This was the last of the Simon and Garfunkel songs. Despite the tensions that led to them going their own ways, this song will connect them as one of the top duets of all time.
Thank you. I was born November 1969 therefore you helped save my life and my freedoms especially and I can only hope I can do what it takes to help us remain free through the leading of our lord jesus
God Bless you for your service to our country. I know it was a difficult time in the late 60's. My oldest brother Roy fought and died in Vietnam. My father was a 24 yr old veteran during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Thank God for the music of the 60's .
I dedicate this song to all the health care workers, janitors, veterans, seniors, children and adults with disabilities, mental health problems, those suffering from all levels of pain caused by diseases like covid or the death of loved ones. Never forget you are appreciated. ⚘
It's worth noting that almost everyone at this concert was hearing the song for the first time. It wouldn't be released until January 1970. I heard S&G on this same tour, in the same month, at Southern Illinois University, and I'll never forget being blown away by this amazing new song. (Some of the SIU performances are included on the Live 1969 album.)
Or are we getting old? This song is part of the soundtrack of our lives, just as today's music is the soundtrack of theirs. Best thing we could have done is to teach our children music appreciation. My child loves the music of my generation even though she listens to stuff that sounds like a chainsaw being eaten by a wood chipper!
Sending with 💜 to all my alcoholic brothers and sisters .... Jaye Don't give up hope. I will soon have 6 months, so grateful & blessed. Took me decades.
Not in the same category as S&G, but Pentatonix (of today's music scene) are also in a category by themselves. Check out their "Hallelujah" and "Amazing Grace" and "Sound of Silence" covers.
@@jonrosen7980 Not that I am aware of. I just wish that they would cover Bridge Over Troubled Waters, but they probably won't since one of their members covered it himself.
Bridge Over Troubled Water is still the very best of Simon and Garfunkel... The voice, lyrics, and harmonic melody hymn of the piano from start to finish are so superb... The last verse is like taking off from an airplane... your heart is pounding faster as you climb up into the sky... what a Glorious ending song.
48 years ago, my brother was walking to ice-skating rink. His was instantly killed by a drunk driver. He was 15 I was 13. I still play his album. He loved this song. My dad had it played at his funeral.
Some day when i pass on, i have already told my friends and family i want this song to be played at my funeral. I cry everytime i hear tbis Beautiful song.
The first time that this song really hit me was in 1969 when a school mate who sings at a club was gunned down and this song was played at his funeral service. Such a good guy gunned down so early in life. It has been my comfort since then.
To me, the greatest recording ever. The composition itself, the unequaled vocal along with the piano and musical arraignment, are perfection. A hymn that touches the soul as if it were heaven gifted, a love letter to a struggling generation, to see us through.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song, the day it was released and first played on the air. My clock radio went off to wake me for school. The radio clicked on and this song started playing. I just laid in bed, mesmerized by the haunting melody and Art's voice.....
Artie did multiple takes of each verse in order to nail that perfect gentle feeling for the record. Sinatra did the same thing for his sessions with Antonio Carlos Jobim ("I've never sung that @&%^ing soft", Ol' Blue Eyes would later be quoted as saying.) Same magical result.
A song that has lasting meaning to me, a song both me and my wife adore. I was on the path to self destruction and she stood by me when it was far easier to walk away from the chaos and carnage. I was blessed by a higher power in that she stood by me, i worship the ground she stands on. Without that selfless act of love and friendship i would not be here to write this message.
This is one of those songs that you know the very first time you hear it that it is extremely special and you'll never forget it. Listen to the applause of the audience. It was a brand new song and they could hardly contain themselves. I think I would have been welling up with tears if I was there, simply because of the beauty and emotion.
~I so love to hear Art sings Bridge. It is like listening to a choir of angels singing. Paul sure wrote a timeless masterpiece of a song, and Art gave it wings and flew it into our hearts. Absolutely subliminal. 💕 💕~
THE most meaningful song of my youth. I had just lost the love of my life. This song touched me deeply. I saw (heard) it as ' I will be there for you my love, no matter how long, no matter where'. It most likely saved my life. Thank you Art and Paul.
Every time I hear this song I think of my beautiful wife. She has always been my bridge. She is this beautiful person who is there leading me to rise up when I’m down and quietly sailing behind me when I’m up and things are good. Never needing affirmation. Like an angel on earth that just always seems to do the right thing and react the right way. She is just a beautiful human being who shines.
Paul knew when he wrote the song that it was Artie's to sing. And then Art suggested the need for a third verse that ended up including Paul's harmony vox.
This is an example of perfection. This song was written to be sung by Art Garfunkel. The music and lyrics are beautiful and inspiring and the message is pure love. Paul Simon is a musical genius. No one else can compare.
Oh, my, gosh! Oh, my, gosh! If one was in the audience, I imagine it's one if those moments you remember for the rest of your life. Absolutely astounding. Paul Simon cemented his legacy with this song
there was a time when Garfunkel was given almost all credit in the eyes of many ppl, which is sad, cause no one wants to give significance to lyricists and instrumentalists ;((
This song is one of the greatest of all times, it came on the radio in the morning as I got ready for school (which I hated) it was in my head all day and comforted me, thank you Paul, Art and Larry for making school that bit more bearable
Isn't it strange to think that there was a time before this record ever existed? The people in the audience hearing this for the very first time couldn't have imagined it would become a classic and still be being listened to by millions around the world over 50 years later. They were witnessing history in the making that night
I'll wager a nickel that Artie had listened to Frank's Jobim album where the Chairman also dialed down his God-given instrument in service to the song, and had that mindset front-and-center when he laid down those first two verses. After the Jobim sessions Sinatra was famously quoted "I've never sang that $^%)ing soft in my life!".
i was full of 16 year old angst when this came out . I am sure it redeemed me . I listened to it hundreds of times . Decades late, my daughter discovered it on her own when she needed it most. THANKS.
I received THE album as a birthday gift back in 1969. Every track a masterpiece but the first track, the Bridge, still captivates me some 55 years later…. The gentle early part of the song leading to the lifting of the song to its final heights starts with the lyrics “Sail on silver girl….” OMG. 🎉❤
I was very young when I heard this song for the first time. Fifty years later it is still one of two hits from Simon & Garfunkel (along with "The Sounds of Silence") that I pause and really listen to the song when I hear it.
@@houngandave Good songs. I love a good part of the Simon and Garfunkel catalog (along with their solo material), and particularly what was sung at The Concert in Central Park. 😃
When you're weary, feeling small When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all (all) I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you (ooo) I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Sail on silver girl Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine Oh, if you need a friend I'm sailing right behind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind.

Crazy.
What an incredibly well written song. One of the best songs of any genre of music.❤
Larry Knechtel, went onto be part of the group Bread
I think without a doubt this is the most beautiful song & lyric in the world ever made...
November, 1969. I first heard this song during my first tour in Vietnam. It was helpful and uplifting at the time.
Thank you for your service and you and your family for your many sacrifices. May your lives be filled with blessings beyond measure.
Thank you. I was born November 1969 therefore you helped save my life and my freedoms especially and I can only hope I can do what it takes to help us remain free through the leading of our lord jesus
I first heard this song in a bar in Bangkok, Thailand while R&R during my 2nd tour in Viet Nam. This song brings a religious message to me.
Thank you!
Thank you!
I'm 67+ now 😊 and was and still is a fan of Simon and Garfunkel. In the late sixtees and seventees I never get tired of their music.
It's all piano. Which is great
Thanks for that!
@@daveanderson8679 i know, people have massacred this song by adding to it. Simple is the best, nobody does it better than Arty Carnegie Hall 1981
I was thinking precisely that... what was it like being in the audience? Did they realize this was a masterpiece from the very first notes?
Imagine a song this good coming out in 2021? Doesn’t seem possible.
It'll never happen 😆
If only
The singers these days have less talent and skill as Simon and or G has in one of their finger nails
Impossible
amy winehouse would have been one..but dang!!
Sending with 💜 to all my alcoholic brothers and sisters .... Jaye
Don't give up hope. I will soon have 6 months, so grateful & blessed. Took me decades.
Sounds of an angelic voice, and a masterpiece from Paul's skillful, poetical writings. Magnificently sung by Artie.
(actual angels must grow tired of humans comparing themselves to them) LOL
His voice is perfect for this arrangement. A perfect match, as If made in heaven!
True legends, never get tired of listening to them. ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Is Garfunkel singing?
Timeless. One of the most unique and moving songs ever. As if they channeled all that is heavenly....a directly message from God.
Yes thats how i feel about it as well bless you ❤😂
Art Garfunkel live is magical. Even his misses are musically wonderful. The song is a masterpiece.
Simon and Garfunkel are both brilliant.
I think there will never be another artists like them in the coming generation. Simply classic.
I fully agree with this statement!
Not in the same category as S&G, but Pentatonix (of today's music scene) are also in a category by themselves. Check out their "Hallelujah" and "Amazing Grace" and "Sound of Silence" covers.
@@thephenomenonofthepropheti264Yes they have done some terrific covers, but where are the new original songs that measure up? Are there any?
@@jonrosen7980 Not that I am aware of. I just wish that they would cover Bridge Over Troubled Waters, but they probably won't since one of their members covered it himself.
Bridge Over Troubled Water is still the very best of Simon and Garfunkel... The voice, lyrics, and harmonic melody hymn of the piano from start to finish are so superb... The last verse is like taking off from an airplane... your heart is pounding faster as you climb up into the sky... what a Glorious ending song.
I always feel God is speaking to us with this song! So beautiful
This performance was just flat out perfection!!!
When my older brother passed away, this was his song as he laid in a Seattle hospital dying. Still need a box of kleenex 50 yrs later
So sorry, very emotional, I can't imagine the pain!
🙏❤️🙏
48 years ago, my brother was walking to ice-skating rink. His was instantly killed by a drunk driver. He was 15 I was 13. I still play his album. He loved this song. My dad had it played at his funeral.
Some day when i pass on, i have already told my friends and family i want this song to be played at my funeral. I cry everytime i hear tbis Beautiful song.
The first time that this song really hit me was in 1969 when a school mate who sings at a club was gunned down and this song was played at his funeral service. Such a good guy gunned down so early in life. It has been my comfort since then.
Sending love and prayers toy you ❤
Prophetic lyrics.
Angelic voice.
Made in heaven.
Perfect!
To me, the greatest recording ever. The composition itself, the unequaled vocal along with the piano and musical arraignment, are perfection. A hymn that touches the soul as if it were heaven gifted, a love letter to a struggling generation, to see us through.
i love simon and garfunkel forever
Live recordings are the best.
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song, the day it was released and first played on the air. My clock radio went off to wake me for school. The radio clicked on and this song started playing. I just laid in bed, mesmerized by the haunting melody and Art's voice.....
One thing i love about Art is the way he vibrates his gentle voice, so controlled. It brings chills to my bones, no one ever does that.
@@GreedyLittleFokker nice to know. The more i watch Artie, the more i like him.
Thank GOD He was there with You All along. He Promises to Never leave you nor forsake you. Also thank GOD for your wife ❤
Wow, what she said! Amazing way of expressing yourself Patricia!
Awesome canción.
So so beautiful, thank you Paul for writing and thank you Art for such soulful and moving rendition
i do believe you mean sublime.
I don't think subliminal means what you think it means..... maybe sublime is the word you were looking for, perhaps?
THE most meaningful song of my youth. I had just lost the love of my life. This song touched me deeply. I saw (heard) it as ' I will be there for you my love, no matter how long, no matter where'. It most likely saved my life. Thank you Art and Paul.
I'm sorry for your loss
Sending love and prayers 💜
eu casei com o amor da minha vida...
Sorry for your loss
Amen!
This song makes me cry....but it's so amazing and beautiful
I love how Paul can step aside and let Art shine solo.
Art has never sung this song better.
Art was the best. Simon took the credit Un4tunately
Actually, Artie did the vocal arrangements for their songs.
there was a time when Garfunkel was given almost all credit in the eyes of many ppl, which is sad, cause no one wants to give significance to lyricists and instrumentalists ;((
Carnegie Hall does that to people.
@@ji2898 Without the writer, you don't have a song. Either way, they both did very well in the end.
This was one of THE songs of its era. Still is emblematic of that time - and now.
So, so true!
his voice is therapy
Angelic music and singer. Song like this hardly comes by.
Simon and art Garfunkel got the goods on music 🎶🎵 they're original and beautiful.
I was there with my father at the age of 6 years... I have tears in my eyes...
❤
Must have been a Great Experience ❤JESUS LOVES YOU😊
My sons love that old song and so do I. Thankfully
I think this song will always be one of the greatest, if not the most.
Nothing more incredibly touching.
Art Gartfunkel Is the epitome of a beautiful voice. Every note Is perfect. This is a great song!
One of the greatest duos ever. Their songs are going to live forever.
The purest love song
I've been listening to AG for over forty years, and my breath still gets caught in my chest hearing him.
One of the best song ever written ❤️
Most of all, one of the best song ever sang by a great singer with an angelic, soulful and life giving voice of Art Garfunkel!!!
Nobody can top Art's singing of this masterpiece. No disrespect to other legends Presley and Sinatra they can not top Art on this.
One of the greatest songs ever performed. Absolutely first class 🎶🎶🎶
Wonderful, touching, beautiful, meaningful, entertaining - among the greatest songwriters of all time.
i was full of 16 year old angst when this came out . I am sure it redeemed me . I listened to it hundreds of times . Decades late, my daughter discovered it on her own when she needed it most. THANKS.
Diese Kunstwerke werden noch in Hunderten Jahren gespielt👍👍👍einfach Wundervoll 🤗🤗🤗
I received THE album as a birthday gift back in 1969. Every track a masterpiece but the first track, the Bridge, still captivates me some 55 years later…. The gentle early part of the song leading to the lifting of the song to its final heights starts with the lyrics “Sail on silver girl….” OMG. 🎉❤
We were young when this was a new song. We may be old now but the song stays young forever.
Thanks to share us this beautiful song performed by this magical voice .
I was very young when I heard this song for the first time. Fifty years later it is still one of two hits from Simon & Garfunkel (along with "The Sounds of Silence") that I pause and really listen to the song when I hear it.
well, i'd add scarborough fair, the boxer, and i am a rock. then for some fun, cecilia, and though it's simon only, kodachrome.
@@houngandave Good songs. I love a good part of the Simon and Garfunkel catalog (along with their solo material), and particularly what was sung at The Concert in Central Park. 😃
When you're weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all (all)
I'm on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
I heard this after my grandmother passed and I go to it for solace now when I’m sad.
@@sylviaesparza3122 I'm sorry for your loss. Only time can make things easier. People we loose always live inside us.

@@packersfan8876 I like reading the lyrics. Many folks don't speak English as their mother language, including me, and it helps them understand the song better.
