    I saw a show so you didn't have to. However, with this show, it may be worth a watch. Here are my thoughts from freshly viewing all 8 episodes.

      If I may, start with 3 then New Vegas in that order, yes there old, but they are amazing. If you liked them, try out the Isometric games 1 and 2, there even older but just a great. Then on to 4.

    I have been waiting for your review before entertaining others. Aside from your binge vs. episodic views, I agree with your review. I loved it. Yes, I played all the games and I while the timelines may be a tad tweaked, heck it’s an adaptation and I am okay with that. I totally buy into the stupid stuff people would do when a gun is pointed at them. The superduper market scene is a great example. I could go on and on.

    At this point I have only watched the first episode. I have 1000s of hours in Fallout. played all the games. Did some beta testing too. Now I work on mods. I LOVED the set design. The costumes are great and I thought they gave the Fallout dark humor a very good effort. As for the stories? To soon to tell but the ghoul stole the show in the last 5 minutes. I'll watch the rest just for him.

    I'd never played Fallout but knew a little about it b/c I'd watched a few playthroughs (or whatever they're called) on here for Fallout 76 b/c I'm from WV and know the state well and it was awesome (yet scary) to see my university, where I grew up, and various landmarks marked by the apocalypse. I was a huge Westworld fan and think that its first season is one of the best standalone seasons in television history. So, I figured Nolan and Joy would do an awesome job-- Nolan was a huge fan of Fallout, especially Fallout 4 and from what I've seen (I tried to give myself some background knowledge before watching by watching videos on here about the lore), he did it justice. I felt traces of Westworld but I really enjoyed this and, while not perfect, I'd give it a 9 out of 10. I couldn't stand Maximus. He got on my last nerve and I have a whole list of reasons that I don't like his character, but this is already a long comment. For some reason, I didn't have commercials, so that helped things for me. I thought the casting was great although Lucy reminded me of Mila Kuntis at times and that bugged me. The Ghoul was perfection-- but I couldn't help but compare him to WW's MIB. I binged it and couldn't wait for each episode. They have lots of content for future seasons and have set up so many mysteries. I can't wait (but will have to wait 2 years) for Season 2. Glad you liked it, Culture. I was hesitant to click on this video, as I thought you'd shit all over Fallout. But, I am pleasantly surprised.

  • @OneManShow1964
    @OneManShow1964 Месяц назад +1

    Can't say I enjoyed the majority of it. 4/10 and I'm being generous because at least they did try. Yes, I did like MacLachlan and Goggins. Maximus could pound sand. Maybe his name was chosen as a joke? To me, he was more of a Minimus. I though the other vault dwellers were rather lackluster and two-dimensional apart from Norm. I very much liked the T-60, but the flight mechanics tainted it pretty strongly. The BOS was such a joke. Watching their day-to-day, all I could wonder was: "How are any of you still alive?" It was ridiculous. I'm happy that it entertained others more. A glass of water to help with the long slog through the Desert of Bad Entertainment. Only water, though. No ice.

    • @mjmeans7983
      @mjmeans7983 Месяц назад

      The flight ability for the T-60 is supposed to be when it's equipped with an optional jet pack. But I'm guessing they couldn't get a live action prop to look and move right when entering and exiting it. And entering and exiting had to be shown. For some (probably dumb) reason they wanted someone flying in power armor in that scene. But then why didn't Knight TItus use flight in the fight with the mutant bear? If they got rid of the flight thing it would have made more sense. Too bad the producers didn't recognize and correct it. Or maybe they did eventually notice but it was too late in the overall production to reshoot. This method of flying could also be a leftover bit from an earlier treatment or be needed for something in the story that is being moved to season 2. Still, I think it would have been better if it had been a jet pack style flight, not iron-man style flight.
      That's really the only thing that grated on me in the show, except for the lack of V.A.T.S. which they can resolve in season 2 with a Pip-Boy upgrade. After all, the meritocracy that Lucy grew up in was maintained with the idea that it was still many generations away from the day they would all need leave the vault and therefore there was no need to train or be able to defend themselves from powerful wasteland beasties. So, her pip-boy might never have had that feature enabled, or her having training on how to use it.

    Westworld season 1 was excellent, but the other seasons, not so much. So I didn't know what to expect from Fallout season 1. I was pleasantly surprised at how much it was like the games in live action. They really did bring the Fallout world to life. I fully expect season 2 to be worse as Hollywood's worst tendencies take over. They can't help themselves.

    Yes, but there are several red flags that I makes me hesitate to watch it. One being when the show runner says he’s not making the show for fans he is making it for himself. And the fact that they completely screwed up the lore from the games and just decided to trash stuff that is already been made canon. I’m one of these people of it. Think when you start deviating from the canon, you destroy what Goodwill you with true fans and there are a lot of people that the fallout games that don’t show and I’m a fan of the lore so I don’t know if I will watch it I might I might not

    I would be interested to hear if you had actually played any of the Fallout games to completion or not and if that had an affect on why you thought so highly of this series. For me, I have no desire to watch it.
    Spoilers warning for those that still want to watch the series:
    I heard that the NCR was going to be wiped out in this series before it aired and having that fact confirmed by a friend who had seen it didn't do the show any favors. Then I saw the chalkboard timeline which made little sense, as the supposed "Fall of Shady Sands" occurs in the same year as the First Battle of Hoover Dam in Fallout: New Vegas. A battle the NCR won decisively against the Legion and cemented the NCR's control over the Dam for the next five years (when Fallout: NV properly starts). Having *any* type of fall within the NCR within that time period pits the story of the TV series with the story of that game. Either Shady Sands falls, which means the NCR can't conceivably have any type of presence within the Mojave as either important supply routes disappear over night and force the army to fall back to California or the Mojave units desert/get wiped out by the Legion. Or Shady Sands doesn't fall, in which case the NCR in the TV series are either larping raiders or this is all a fever dream the main character is having. You can't have both as the NCR seemed to be depicted as two wildly different groups in both the game and the TV series.
    Again, I haven't seen the series and only have my friends recounting of the TV series to go off on. But it seems like, if I want to enjoy the TV series, I have to choose between taking the TV series as canon or Fallout: New Vegas as canon. And I'm sorry, but I'm going to pick with the story I loved enough to go through seven times than waste time with a TV series that doesn't seem to care that much about any Fallout game that wasn't directly made by Bethesda.

    6/10. I didn't connect with or care about any of the characters, and the plot was swiss cheese. Minimal "woke." Didn't hate it and didn't love it.
    Lucy wasn't a Mary Sue. She was a respectable, audience POV character. I just didn't like her... or most of the characters in the show.
    The plot and humor didn't land with me.
    I think Matt Berry nailed the Mister Handy dialog.
    No shade on anyone who enjoyed it, but it was "meh" for me.
    EDIT: To be both fair and clear, I think the actors did a fine (in some cases excellent) job with what they were given. I mostly hated the script and some of the dialog choices. Nolan's scripts generally have that effect on me. Yes, I'm that one guy who absolutely HATED "Interstellar."

    I thought the show was great. A couple things annoyed me: Maximus' trans-friend, Dane, who goes by "they/them" pronouns based on the quote, "they were terrified and felt they were not ready to venture into the wasteland." It was subtle, not "in your face" but I guess "they" was needed to get DEI/ESG funding - this is Amazon, afterall. And I feel the show was overly diverse, especially for a 1950's-esq alternate universe (even though the bomb was said to have dropped in 2077), but because it was an alterate universe, it worked.

    I gave it a 7/10. The main character Lucy and the Ghoul were great, while the wannabe knight was terrible and the entire Brotherhood of Steel storyline sucked. Fortunately, the rest of the show makes up for his performance and the Brotherhood's badly written storyline. They nailed the Fallout esthetic and that really does count for a lot. I just wish they had cast practically anyone else Maximus because that actor and the Brotherhood storyline are what held this back at a 7 instead of scoring higher.

    Here is a summary of what turned me off.
    I was enjoying the show for the first episode and a half. Then they introduced Maximus... a Whinny, self entitled, cry baby (literally), who is so desperate to become a squire. Then suddenly, when he achieves that which his heart most desires, he becomes disenchanted. Why? Because the faction you have aligned yourself with and has been abusing you, your entire life then pairs you with a Paladin who is going to continue that very same abuse?
    Sorry, I'm not buying it. It's almost as if they wanted his character to come off as a slave who sees his first opportunity at freedom. But they didn't want to fully invest in that path, considering Maximus is black, and it might seem a little too on the nose.
    If they had written his character a little more like Maximus from Gladiator, I might feel a bit more attached. But his insufferable self-pity just makes me hate every second he is on screen.
    I want to like the show, my friend says I should go back and finish. I might do that.
