  • Tractor Time with Tim has always wondered if Johnny (John Deere 1025R) would be useful on the farm. We find out when trying to clean up around the farm sheds and yard. Guest appearances by the Farmall 706, Case Backhoe, John Deere 3320 and more. Of course Tim's family is all there to help - Ray, Tom, Randall, Ruby (Tim's mom), Andrea (Tom's daughter) and Molly, the family dog.

    I'm on a ttwt binge watch and I really admire how your family farm doesn't have a skid steers. I myself am not a skid loader fan. On our farm we have two loader tractors and I say that's all we need but every farmer just swears by the skid loader. I love the Case 💪💪

      Andrea, Tom's daughter got married last weekend. We were cleaning up for her wedding. We had 90 folks in one of those sheds for a dinner the evening before the wedding.

    Great video!! Thank you for sharing! I look forward to all of your videos but I really enjoy the times you are out to the farm! It looks like your parents have done a fantastic job raising a family that can work together like you do. If that was me and my brother doing that stuff I can about promise their would have been a hospital trip at some point. I’m very happy your dad is doing better and I’m sure it’s harder on him not being able to jump in and do all the stuff he has done his hole life. That’s how it was with dad. Anyway great video keep up the good work

      Yes. We have a good time. Once in awhile we argue about something, but nothing major.
      As for dad, he still enjoys watching us work together. ...and often he has a suggestion which will make the project easier, or the result better.
      He is an incredible guy.

      Well, that is not the type of situation where Johnny would be most susectible to turning over. More likely is
      driving on a slope with a full bucket raised to high.
      I didn't feel any danger at all in this situation.
      I wish I could explain it better. Perhaps I should make an attempt sometime. I do have video of a couple of instances where I thought that I sincerely MIGHT turn Johnny over. ...MUCH different scenario than this one.

    Tim and family, this is just about my definition of a perfect day, working on the place with family. It is so refreshing to see you folks interact and enjoy each other's company. Your videos have become some of my favorites and I'm happy to see your Father out and working, probably some of the best therapy available and I'm sure he enjoyed getting some clean up work accomplished too. Some of the best memories of my family are days spent working on these types of tasks as you folks did in this video. I'm betting there was a meal or cook out involved too maybe?? Anyway, all the best to you and yours, I have to go get on my new GC1710LBT now and play, I mean, "work". Alan in KY

    strick

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, I think that is the point. We have been around them all of our lives. Everyone has all of our fingers. :-) Also, you only see "two dimensions" on video. I have noticed recently ...as I have been looking for this...that situations look dramatically different in video than in real life. Especially in the sense of depth perception. You really can't tell for sure how close something is from a video.
      The MAY be exaggerated even more by the GoPro which has a warped 'fisheye' type wide angle lens.
      Anyway, yes, sometimes we are in there close, but after all these years, we've learned to understand when the operator is in full control, and when there is a good possibility of a 'slip up' or something.
      In some ways, we LIKE folks seeing us in real-world action. Perhaps folks can better understand and determine REAL, PRACTICAL, safety rules instead of the textbook "never get closer than 100' to anything rules.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 лет назад +1

      Yes. It doesn’t have much brute strength, but as you know from experience, with some thought and practice you can make these little guys do real work!

      I have a 790, and 3032E tractors and they are very useful around my place and I get plenty of work out of them, but try not to over work them. Since I have a lower back problem which I had since being in the Air Force it is hard to do some things alone and that is really where the tractors comes in handy.

    You know I understand what people mean by AG tires tearing up the yard. It depends on the kind of yard and soil that your yard contains. At my house we have some dirt on top and 4-6 inches of clay below that dirt. I have lived here for 13 years and I have only seen a few summers where there is NO mud at all! We got stuck in just turf tires! I couldn’t imagine what AG tires would do! So again it all depends on the kind of soil your land has. And in the Midwest it varies drastically everywhere you go.

Do you think that there is a legality issue regarding consent from your customers and fans? Basically JD can’t endorse your videos because of you guys showing different peoples properties on your trips and projects? Either way you do a great job showing how versatile the tractor is!

      The point is that you are showing the value of the 1025r sub-compact and the comfort of your Dad's 3 series that it allows him, in his fragile state of health, to mow in comfort all afternoon.
      Besides, if you can't have respect for those old workhorse Farmalls, you are in the wrong business.

    I've run a payloader a bunch over the years. Way past what it was designed for but with experience you get the feeling of when the machine gets light on a side or corner for that matter. If your running something articulated the center of gravity changes from side to side when you turn the steering wheel so it's possible to be driving with a load on one tire. Done it. That's a feeling of all it's own. John Deere 644b has no slip front axle.

    Yea another day with Tim's family on the farm. Tim don't feel bad about the rose bush the tree had been there so long that I'M sure the roots of the tree and rose bush had become intertwined together and I'M not sure there would of been away to get the tree out without the rose bush coming with it. Who was the girl riding in the trailer with Christie and Molly ? Tim you scared me a couple of times messing with that mulberry tree I thought you were going to turn johnny over. i really like your Dads tractor the 3320 with the cab on it. Looked like a productive day and a fun day all the boys playing with their toys. LOL If this was after your dads stroke he is looking very good. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a great weekend. Yea, rose-bush was funny. We went to all that effort, and were trying to be so gentle, then "pop"....the whole thing came up.
      It was kinda funny to hear dad's reaction.
      That was Andrea, Tom's daughter. She was in several of our videos in 2015 when she lived with us for 9 months. She was in school here in town during that time.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 лет назад +1

      Yea. Your point is RIGHT ON. One needs to be concentrating, calculating, thinking during every moment on one of these tractors. You have to "feel" for what is going on, anticipating how the tractor will react to the next movement. Being surprised is the most dangerous thing.
      I was momentarily surprised after pushing those roots forward, then going backwards again. I thought the roots were free....then they jerked the tractor tight. I don't like being surprised. There was really no danger there, but still, it is best if the operator properly anticipates every reaction of the tractor.
      Appreciate your comments, Roy!

    Been looking hard at these tractors. Might avoid the Deere just because of the lack of skidsteer attachments. Probably going to go with the Massey.

      @@TractorTimewithTim Just watched and some valid points. Now that you have had all these experiences with different brands. Would you still choose the Deere?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  4 года назад +1

      Yes, I would still choose Deere. For some more 'color', let me explain.
      I bought Johnny not so much because of an exhaustive search saying it was the best. I knew about the auto-connect deck, and wanted that feature. ...but more than that, I wanted a 'small version' of what my family has on the farm.
      Now, fast forward 5 years, and LOTS of studying/comparing of the various sub-compact tractor lines, I have formed an opinion that the 1025r is simply the best overall subcompact on the market. Why? Attachability. Ease of removing and attaching loader, mower, and backhoe is more refined and simpler than on any other brand.
      All brands (except for the Kubota BX) have nearly identical specs. The BX loader lift capacity is very poor, and low enough that it would hinder many of the basic homeowner tasks like picking up a pallet of mulch, or a pallet containing a new appliance from the back of a truck.
      I would choose Deere or Kubota for the manufacturer, and if I REALLY had to choose a Kubota, I would choose a B2601 or B2650 rather than the bx.
      I hope that is helpful. ...don't get me wrong...I think you will enjoy whatever brand you choose. These subcompacts are great fun, and tremendous helpers.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 лет назад

      Yes, would help. However, we really need the narrow stance for lots of our jobs. Need hydraulic in and out on the wheel width. Old tractors used to have a power adjusting wheel ...in and out. Didn’t last long. I suspect it must not have worked very well.

      Well, this is NOT how one would turn the tractor over. Not at all. It LOOKS scary, but it is not.
      Having said that, the tractor IS easy to turn over. It would happen by having the bucket high on a slope, or travelling fast on a slope with the bucket high.
