At least Iron Man and Wolverine have a long history with a lot to pull from. Nobody can get away with playing RDJ and Jackman's versions of those characters but I could see someone pulling off a different take. You don't have that option with characters from the original Star Wars films. Well unless you're playing the character at a significantly different age or state than the original actor ever got to play them like Ewan McGregor.

I don't agree, but not for the reasons you may initially think. I think people give George too much credit. Guy has good ideas, he brainchilded Star Wars and the man should get some respect for that, but a lot of the stuff that people love about Star Wars from before TCW and The Disney Buy out weren't George's ideas. Mara Jade, Aayla Secura, Thrawn, X-Wing Book series, KOTOR, Hell George's original idea of the First Sith, Darth Ruin, almost clashed with the KOTOR timeline as it contradicts the origin of the Sith as a Dark Jedi called Darth Ruin, which they had to fix as a resurgence of Sith that led up to the Bane Rule of Two Sith. George also made changes for the worst like Korriban is now Morraband because Korriban apparently sounds too much like Coruscant. Basically imagine how much people dislike Dragon Ball Minus compared to Bardock Father of Goku but done much more frequently. So I don't really subscribe to the though of "Being the Creator" means all your ideas are golden. I mean the guy isn't Tolkien.

The problem is like Geekdom said, is that Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm staff had no plan for the sequel trilogy and don't really understand Star Wars. The reason why the MCU is so popular is because Kevin Feige already had a plan when Iron Man came out and because he was a fan like all of us he wanted to get some ideas from the comics but also new ideas to please the fans and the directors did the same thing.

I think The Force Awakens as a STANDALONE film/movie is good and entertaining, but when you think of the film in terms of a sequel or a follow-up film/movie, I can see why many fans do NOT like it at all and think of it as a piece of crap. The Last Jedi is just straight up BAD and full of plot holes whether you think of it as a standalone film/movie or a follow-up. It's sad to see how they wasted so many opportunities with this new trilogy. The prequels are VERY far from perfect, but at least they didn't do the damage to the saga the way the ST did-- And the PT is honestly really entertaining, specially ROTS.

The fact that we won't get a cohesive trilogy in the end is what pisses me off the most. I've come to appreciate some things of TLJ and I definitely still love TFA, but, whether I choose the Abrams side or the Johnson side, I'll never be able to enjoy a trilogy that tells a coherent story split in three parts.
About Luke, you know, I don't regret that he wasn't shown as some super powerful Force wizard. He never was the most powerful. He didn't surpass Yoda or Obi-Wan in terms of power. He did surpass them in terms of wisdom and moral authority, and that's the trait of his character that was betrayed. He shouldn't have been remembered as the most powerful Jedi ever, but as the BEST Jedi ever. Which is not the same thing.

They would’ve had to have been made like around the time of the prequels being made. So no matter what, Disney or not, films made past the original trilogy are just meant to be doomed.

Here is what I would've done with the sequels.
    The Force Awakens
I would pretty much keep the plot the same but what I would change is Kylo Ren's personality, have him be a little more cold hearted and less hot tempered. When he meets Rey he doesn't flinch when she mind fucks him, instead he is intrigued. When they get to the scene between Solo and Ren change it to where Solo believes that he is his am Leia's son but is really Jacen, Ben Solo's best friend and brother in arms when training under Luke who posed as Ben after he died. Out of pity and guilt over what he did, Jacen kills Solo saying that he can see his son again. In the final fight Ren keeps his cool throughout and the only time Rey uses the forse it's to summon Lukes lightsaber, in combat he nearly kills her before a wounded Finn distracts him long enough for Rey to slash his face. The rest is history.
    The Last Jedi
A lot could be changed. Luke is not in exile like everyone thinks, he is actually learning everything he can to figure out where he went wrong and is beginning to lose hope. When Rey wants him to train her he is hesitant because of his fear of failure. Among other changes Rose's role is reduced, Kylo/Jacen is actually more impressed by Rey and grows a little more arrogant. Eventually we learn the whole story: Ben Solo was sent to be trained by Luke when his parents realized his power in the force. There he meets Jacen, an orphan who Luke found as a toddler who was strong with the force. The two became inseparable but each had flaws, Jacen was strong with the dark side and struggled to control it while Ben struggled as a student in general. The two helped each other out and soon became Lukes top students. When Snoke came into the picture Luke could sense the darkness in Ben and when he was about to kill him out of impulse Jacen attacked. In that moment Luke realized that Jacen had been meeting with Snoke all along and to protect himself deceived Luke into thinking it was Ben. In the midst of the fight Ben awakens and in a panic crashes down the building killing himself. When Luke came to Jacen had destroyed everything he built and took Ben's lightsaber to make it seem like he turned to the dark side while Jacen died (hence the mask). Kylo later admits that is the only choice that he regrets. Luke goes onto explain that he believes no matter how hard he tried Jacen/Kylo was destined to join the dark side (like the antichrist of star wars, anakin brought balance to the force while Jacen was born to fuck it up). The rest of the plot is pretty much the same.

The thing that pissed me off more than anything with the sequels is that what you describe and what fans wanted would have been the smart business choice of Disney, instead we got NPC politics showed down our troaths. There was a clear bias in DIsney/K.K to essentially destroy the legacy of the classical characters and the OG trilogy, beacuse in the world of hollywood politics, these heroes were not suitable for the narrative they wanted to present. SW was a great opportunity for them to take a cultural phenomena that was cherished and loved by many and then use that against them to "expose" them to above mentioned politics.
In other words, the same kind of propaganda that we had around 1930's-40's, (wich is "totally a good guy move", no decrepit facists did ever do that, no sirry)
Star Wars was the sacrificial lamb on the slab of these ivory tower authoritarian political elists scum. It was not a good business decision, it was not a good creative decision, but it makes sense the way they did it if the intention was to use someones elses creative labour and infect it with their own twisted version of politics. The sequles will forever be remembered as the height of our current culture war, and that these soulless assholes tried to kill SW to serve their own agenda.
Hopefully this shitshow of mixing entertainment and "politics" will die out once businesses gets their heads out of their asses and stops pretending to have any sort of moral compass. If they want to make money they need to cut out the infection wich is identity politics out of their damn business models and cauterize the wound.

I'm not a fan of any of this sequel trilogy. Both of the movies we have so far suck and hand wave several issues within their own plots to progress the story. Force Awakens, how did Poe survive and what was the whole story with anakin's lightsaber? Last Jedi, why doesn't Snoke know they can track the resistance through hyperapace and how come Finn and Rose can hyperspace jump away un detected? But the biggest sin the trilogy makes is to the characters of Luke, Han, and Leia. Instead of them growing over 30 years they stayed the same or regressed. Read the original EU under Lucas. Leia became a senator, then supreme chancellor, got married, had 3 kids one of which she named after her biological father as a way to forgive him and move on, and finally she trained to be a jedi, that thing Rey has yet to do. Luke also grew in interesting ways. Her got married, had a kid, restored the Jedi order, lost his wife to his nephew who turned to the dark side, and had to work on his relationship with his son after his wife's passing. I ask you were any of the Disney characters that interesting. Hell look up Booster Terrik if you want someone Disney only wishes they could come up with to make for an interesting character.

So they can have their own continuity and us older fans can have our original continuity. I feel this would at least give the more bitter (And I don't mean this as an insult) fans who don't like the new canon a new avenue. Also it increases the most important thing for them more money to make. I mean it works for Marvel what with their X-Men and MCU stuff. Then they can do games and cross over material featuring Legends and Canon characters similar to the mobile games. Because honestly I never liked the new movies (Outside of the spinoffs and The Mandalorian is peaking my interest), because I was always bitter they got rid of the stuff I liked like Luke's Jedi Academy, Thrawn, and the Solo Twins and X-Wing Series for THIS?! the Sequels are a creative failure in all sense of the word. I LOVE TFA. I think TFA despite it's flaws set up potential, you all remember the hype for TLJ and the theories. I miss those days. TFA set up potential and TLJ killed it. because Kathleen had no direction for the sequels. George at first had no direction for the OT when he made ep 4 because he intended it to be 1 film, then after the box office success he saw how people loved it and got to work making a trilogy. He saw it's success and continued. the Prequels though having many flaws still feel like Star Wars because they didn't ruin the OT characters but made them better. the Prequels even have an overall narrative and great world building. the Sequels don't. TFA set up a decent start only for TLJ to kill it because Ryan didn't need to follow any guide lines. and now Disney is trying to pull an overall story out of their asses at the last minute. ep 9 may be good, if it is it will only be good as a solo film. no mater what they do in ep 9 can't fix their trilogy. because these incompetent idiots don't know the basics of story telling. you NEED an over all story and end point your trying to get the characters to. look at the MCU. over 20 films and they knocked it out of the park with Endgame. now that they've reached their goal with the MCU interest will die down and especially because they want to make it woke. I wish George would have been brought on to help them, but they failed. it's a failure because it ruined the potential of Star Wars to continue in film, ruined the potential set up by TFA. and them sacrificing the EU was a waste because of the failure of their trilogy.
