If you like what you're hearing, be sure to check out my channel, where you can find all of my A Song of Ice and Fire recorded chapters in order in playlists! And leave a comment! I don't care about any youtube algorithm reach nonsense but I love hearing from people who are listening!
I am in no sense a professional reader, voice actor, or what have you. I began this audiobook project some years ago when some friends of mine jokingly said they'd read A Song of Ice and Fire (my favorite fantasy series) if I personally recorded the whole series in audiobook form and sent it to them. Having now made my way almost through the first two books in the series, I decided to join the small community of people who post their own amateur audibook readings to youtube, and share my efforts.
I have no intention of profiting off of the work that is copyrighted to George RR Martin. This upload is a tribute to a series I deeply love, and I strongly encourage you to purchase these books. You won't regret it.
Also I should give full credit to my cat, Claudio, for the frequent background meows and purring sounds you hear throughout.

When Sandor pets the dog...
😭😭😭😭😭
Hey his grandfather was a kennel master after all, that’s where the sigil of his house comes from
I was so moved by this chapter and listened twice. Sandor Clegane lives. In order for a person to be reborn spiritually, they have to be cleansed and die to themselves. All three occurred to Sandor on the bank of the Trident. So beautiful and poignant was Elder Brothers witness to Brienne and her tearful confession. The Lord is not finished with Sandor Clegane.
I love that the Quiet Isle is this living proof that things don't have to be this way. It's possible to live in peace, though it may be a difficult, fragile, and costly thing. I think that's going to be very relevant to Dany and Jon in Dance!
@@DavidReadsASoIaF i hope so, theres so little peace and contentment in this series
@@DavidReadsASoIaF GRRM's truly a child or adolescent of the 1960s.
After listening to this chapter, I guess it is clear to say that, even though "Cleganebowl" was a 'fun' idea to consider; it would ultimately undermine Sandon's end.
Assuming he is this Gravedigger, he has found peace and quiet. This _broken_ man has finally been able to let go.
This might the closest thing to a happy ending for him.
Unless the BWB and Stoneheart pays him a visit to ask him about Arya's whereabouts...
The faith could still summon him to be their champion against Robert Strong tho
@@jimmymcgill7370that would be epic
i hope we never see the gravedigger again. it’d be a happy ending for a man who was broken since his brother gave him his signature burns and scars
It’s not the end. Sansa keeps thinking about him and the light of lord kept him alive. He still has something to add, not sure what.
Brienne chapters make me wanna cry, bittersweet tears.
👍
Jaime, Jaime, Jaime ❤.. chapters about love
Feast actually tells the real song of ice and fire
The quiet isles is the opposite of house of black and white
Yet in someway they are the same....thus ice and fire
Seven blessings David!
Truly this book is amazing! it adds SO much to the story, while giving the original charecters (I mean the POVs we were used to) the time to develop behind the scene in their own storylines.
It's like time skipping for the charecters but not for the story.
Thank you again David
Thanks again for listening! And I’m with you. Feast is my favorite book in the series.
I got the impression that people hated this book, but I truly have been hanging on to every word, especially in Brienne and Jaimes chapters. This book is such gold, people just aren’t digging deep enough!
@@moviesinminutes4057 the first time I read it I was upset it was missing some of my favorite characters but still thought it was interesting. Now after a few rereads. Feast and Dance are what I gravitate to.
What is amazing about this book is that there is more focus on the woes of the lesser houses and the smallfolk.
Why was I crying a little bit during this chapter Poor Brianne she just wants to keep her promise did Jamie and be the son her father lost the child he has left
one of the most amazing chapters of all time, literally gives me chills every time. I really really REALLY HATE how underrated Feast is... it's my favorite book and I'm not just talking asoiaf terms Its my favorite book period..... thank you for doing gods work
My favorite book is *A Dance with Dragons*
At first read I didn't like Feast but only because I was expecting some Jon or Bran or tyrion. After I finisher I read it again and it is definitely some of GRRM's best work. It's not as action packed as the rest but still amazing story building. And how it happens alongside Dance makes reading both even better
@@comradestannisyou are amazing at answering people who didn’t ask your opinions
@@stevenstone307 It's a comments section.
This chapter made me cry, I never cry.
Seven hells David. Who gave you the right to deliver such a performance
I love George's use of brawny brutish characters who subvert expectations like Marwyn and the Elder Brother
Great work again David this has been my favorite experience with a feast for crows
Thank you! As far as I'm concerned everything I recorded before was an excuse to get here, as Feast is my favorite book in the series.
@@DavidReadsASoIaF I'm looking forward to dance with dragons
I dont know about the rest of you, but the quiet isle would be my go to place if I could live anywhere in this realm.
Being around a bunch of guys who never talk must be hella boring tho. But at least is a safe spot in times of war it seems
@@junior1388666 I'll take boring over castle black.
@@EnderWarden I would go for castle black just for Pip's jokes japes alone. And going to the whorehouse with the lads to look for buried treasure seems like a good time lol
Man... another beautiful Brienne chapter. I wasn't expecting it. ASOIAF is such a versatile book series, in one POV you see intrigue/politics, in another you see character transformation, in some you see magic, and then you have POVs like this...
Also... that guy knows little too much about Hound... Like where did he learn that he was with Arya Stark? or all that info about Hound... is hound alive and living on Quiet Island? I really doubt he's actually dead, he was complex character. Like despite his growls and rude mouth, he was only one, beside Tyrion, who was decent towards Sansa... He actually was solid man deep down, no way someone like that would be dead... Hound reborn, that would be cool to see, after all his evil brother is dead and he's left without any goal...
Sandor Clegane pets the "hound" and Stranger is still with him, The hound has found peace❤❤❤ Brienne's chapters are the best by a long way.
18:23 Brienne really is the fucking best.
Awesome to hear what happend in saltpans. Rip sandor ;-)
10 bucks says the hounds not dead
Cried at the end of the chapter
Thanks so much for this David. This has officially washed the taste of the shows ruin out of my mind. I’m a huge book fan but I had to step away from the series for a while and would just read A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms and Fire and Blood instead. I really appreciate you.
Warning for those who’re about to read, read the comment section AFTER reading with David. Spoilers ahead.
The comments are blunt and full of spoilers.
Thanks David, your series got me back into asoiaf. I really like the little story telling elements you add and the voices you use. (not to mention the improved audio quality since the first few chapters). Honestly prefer your reads to any other I've found (Roy Doltrice & tokybook). My only complaint is that I've now caught up to you so now I have to wait, at least GRRM has prepared us extensively in this regard :)
Thank you so much! I started doing this to get some friends into the books, way back when the show was in steep steep decline, and it gladdens my heart to know other people are getting back into the books too!
Im actually quite happy i caught up to david and his upload schedule. Since i was just binge listening the first 2 books. And this causes it to be fun for a week. But then you forget it again. A chapter a day makes me really look forward to the next upload, and think about what happend in the last chapter. This way its fun for months :)
first time i cry with this book
AFFC haters when you show them Brienne VI:
"Oh my God, I get it."
This book is so beautiful to listen too.
I don't believe The Hound is dead.
A lot of people think that the “gravedigger” is Sandor!
@@DavidReadsASoIaF So do I!
@@DavidReadsASoIaF is it even a theory? Seems like it must be him.
@@andrewjennings7306so why doesn’t this grave digger have a scar
@@RG-gv8ss we don't see his face do we?
Meribald is honestly one of the best side characters in the series, unironically. Heres to hoping Sandor Clegane returns. If not, then at least The Hound is dead, but Sandor Clegane isn't.
Love the hound. He’s hard and brutal when he needs to be like Jaime said last chapter. But his heart is clearly a fun nice guy
Glad he gets a chance At peace
So I’m guessing Briennne doesn’t know what the hound looks like? Or is he wearing a hood to hide his face?
Sandor Clegane had happy ending which is rare in this world. I dont think that he will fight against Robert Strong because he will win and Cersei would rule again.
Him reverting back to violence is stupid n he should just stay here for the rest of the story
The novice gravedigger with a leg injury, giant black stallion who bites the ear off a "stranger"
Ahh, looks like sandor is safe and sound after all. If we never hear of him again, that would be fine by me.
33:44 the drowned god needed a strong oarsman, I fear.
What is dead may never die!!
Came back here cuz I saw this chapter was quoted when saying the Hound was alive, even though I didn't pick up on it (despite knowing he was alive). When I f3ed to find the Brienne chapters in the playlist, however, I was like wtf, it skips from 5 to 7.
Cuz apparently he put three n's in Brienne's name in the title
🤦♂
Sandor
It mentions the hound, dogs and Sandor as well as gravedigger quite a lot. Also how does the elder know about Arya.
He never said Sandor is dead only the hound is dead.
While the lords and ladies plot and scheme and inly think about power and crowns. The people suffer, die. Same story through the centuries
I know the series and books are different but could this man be the same one that Sandor was helping and got slaughtered by the brotherhood? Same guy or no? Because the series starts drifting away from the book already.
That character in the show is supposed to be kind of a combination of several book characters. Elder Brother, Septon Meribald, etc. Since those characters aren’t in the show and neither is the Quiet Isle, but they needed to show what happened to the Hound, they created that septon and his little village of people in place of it.
😢
Favorite line of ASOIAF?
I really, truly could not say lol. THis book has some of my favorite monologues in the series though. Off the top of my head, Septon Meribald's broken man speech and Euron's little monologue about Gods.
I prefer my History dead. Dead History is written ink, Living sword and Blood.
@@arshadsaleem88 Rodrik Harlaw truly is one of the wisest characters in the series.
@@DavidReadsASoIaF my favorite line is Stannis speech about the Peach. It's so sad you can see how he feel regret about what he's done. Also we can see a lot of his character in that one scene. Becouse he was always so serious, emotionless and frightening for freedom he couldn't taste the Peach. It's so sad and great I love it
Gotta be the legend that is Maester Aemon: ‘We are only human, & the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory & our great tragedy.’ Gods forgive me if I’ve quoted that wrong. But yeah, such sad, much truth 😥😝
Ok, the comments are spoilery as hell, reading chapters without taking a look at fellow listeners' thoughts shall be the way forward
Is Brienne from New Jersey??? Lol!!!
I do love this though
Elder brother: "they turned Salt pans into nothing. They literally dropped a medieval nuke on the place."
Brien: "I hope to find a Maid there of 3 and 10. There." Yea Brien is an idiot
Literally
Just go to the vale
I’m honestly confused as to why people think this character is the hound. There’s an obvious thematic connection and I’m not saying he couldn’t be, but his face certainly doesn’t match.
We never actually see the Gravedigger's face, but here's what we know of him.
1: He is taller than Brienne, very few men are. Sandor is one of a handful of people named in the story to be taller than her, and he's the only one in the Riverlands matching that description.
2: The Elder Brother is very familiar with Sandor, arguably too familiar with someone who only really supposedly buried him.
3: The Gravedigger walks with a limp similar to one of Sandor's previous injuries.
4: The Gravedigger stops to pat Dog.
5: Sandor's horse, Stranger, is present on the Quiet Isle. It has more than once been said Stranger is incredibly aggressive and hostile to anyone who isn't Sandor Clegane, in and of itself an implication that Sandor at least helped bring Stranger there.
6: When the Elder Brother speaks of Sandor's death, it's very important to remember he also speaks of _his_ own death as a way of meaning he was reborn as the pious man he grew to be.
@@DominionSorcerer thanks this clears things up a lot.
@@DominionSorcererpodrick doesn’t notice him as the hound tho
@@fazediamond5671 why would he? Podrick probably hasn't seen the Hound much, he's incredibly shy in general and the Gravedigger said nothing and was covered from head to toe in robes, hood and mask.
@@DominionSorcerer he should tho after black water
They been living in the same place for months
What us brother Narbert implying about pod
I've been listening Dotrice since 2012 so your definitely a nice change oh and RIP RD, plus in a lot of aspects your better then Roy to be honest but on next go around you gotta change your Brienne. That accent is unbearable at times :(
22:33 this doesn’t make sense if u look at a map
32:36 no brienne will kill him
