If you like what you're hearing, be sure to check out my channel, where you can find all of my A Song of Ice and Fire recorded chapters in order in playlists! And leave a comment! I don't care about any youtube algorithm reach nonsense but I love hearing from people who are listening!
I am in no sense a professional reader, voice actor, or what have you. I began this audiobook project some years ago when some friends of mine jokingly said they'd read A Song of Ice and Fire (my favorite fantasy series) if I personally recorded the whole series in audiobook form and sent it to them. Having now made my way almost through the first two books in the series, I decided to join the small community of people who post their own amateur audibook readings to youtube, and share my efforts.
I have no intention of profiting off of the work that is copyrighted to George RR Martin. This upload is a tribute to a series I deeply love, and I strongly encourage you to purchase these books. You won't regret it.
Also I should give full credit to my cat, Claudio, for the frequent background meows and purring sounds you hear throughout.

Melisandre asking Stannis to let Devan stay with her to keep him safe, and Devan having a crush on her is kinda wholesome!
“I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai and R’hllor shows me only Snow” hmmmmm I wonder what that could mean. great chapter been looking forward to this one for a while !!
This chapter is full of sentences that hit like a ton of bricks, and that’s one of my favorites.
Such a puzzling riddle. What does the Lord of Light mean, I wonder? If only this divine excerpt were simpler and not entangled with such complex mysteries. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Even if the Lord of Light puts a red neon sign over Jon's head that blinks Azor Ahai, Mel would still be confused.
@@abrarbw lol
@@abrarbw Even I understood that, and subtext usually goes right over my head.
Red Herring
It felt so good to see things from Melisandre's point of view for once. This chapter was great!!
There is so much to unpack in this chapter.
Mel asks to see Stannis, her king. She doesn’t get to see Stannis but she’s shown Bran, Bloodraven and assumes they are the enemy.
Mel lot 7, her slave history.
And then she literally hears Jon Snow. Then his transformation from man to 🐺 to man.
Is she really so good at reading the flames? “I pray for a glance of Azor Ahai and the lord shows me only snow” She’s misguided, clearly.
Then the fact Mel feels bad about Davos’ sons, and tries to keep Devan safe by keeping him close gives me so much respect for her.
After staring into the fire, it took her a while to adjust. How often do they talk about night blindness after staring at torches? She’s missing things. And immediately thinks Bran must be a servant of the Other. She doesn’t realize they’re on the same side.
I love that she misunderstands why Jon doesn’t take the King’s tower. She thinks he doesn’t think he deserves it but really he didn’t want to offend Stannis if he returned.
I can’t get enough of the description of her powders and then her magic powers. Powders for Truth, Lust, Fear. This woman is very dangerous without her real spells. And she keeps a pinch of each on her at all times. And the magic she learned is Asshai is more powerful at the wall. She’s only getting more dangerous. She’s trying so hard to be a hero but she’s going to be a villain.
I don’t like that she allows Jon to think the towers she saw in her vision were Eastwatch, though it’s more like to be Oldtown.
Jon’s hand 🤚 opening and closing is described so many times. Wait to see who does that. That’ll be Jon in Winds of Winter
The reveal of The Lord of Bones was so well described. I could read it a thousand times. The mention of the bag of finger bones, suggesting she’s had them since Davos lost them.
I’m sure there’s things I missed. Such an amazing chapter!
Wow.
"Is she really so good at reading the flames? “I pray for a glance of Azor Ahai and the lord shows me only snow” She’s misguided, clearly.' and she also says, people only see what they want too see, she of course missed the irony in the statement
Its interesting how George made her a true believer. She actually believes Rhollor objectively exists and Stannis is truly the messiah. She's totally convinced of that. I'm just so fascinated by that. I'm not entirely convinced The High Sparrow is a true believer in the gods he speaks of. He believes in the moral system of his religion, yeah. I think he actually wants to do the right thing. But Mel literally, metaphysically believes her God is actual objective, existing fact of reality. And she has a history of slavery in all its trauma and horror in the ultimate magical, ancient dark city of Asshai. Fascinating psychology to this character. George is a genius, I'm so obsessed with this series.
You and me both my friend
everyone who has ever lived is a true believer, and only very very very few realise the god that they worship
@@我主也 You can relativize any statement until everything is true and no distinctions exist, but does it really make sense to say Thoros believes in Rhollor in the same way Mel does? Nope. Not even close.
@@mschell8022 it is not relativising, it is psychology: one's highest value is one's god, be it a god, an experience, an idea, an opinion, and on and on. Ex. Petyr Baelish worships himself, he is his own god.
Edit: Actually, Melisandre has a fine sense of this, as she herself thinks that the only gods worshipped by Stannis and Jon are honour and duty.
@@我主也, “gods” aren’t anywhere in psychology… M Schell has the right of it. You’re generalizing to such a broad expanse that you “can’t be wrong”. To such a point that your words are pointless.
What a great chapter to flip everyone’s thoughts on melasandra. I always haters her in the show but this chapter just flipped it all for me.
It’s revealing that’s she’s a hack
Its kinda weird how freakish strong Jon is, he managed to pull out the wooden pike from the frozen ground efortlesly when 2 dudes strugled with one, when he was lost in battle furry several men had to restrain him in the yard, and he at one point managed to lift up Alister Thorne by the throat with one hand. He isnt described as big or brawny, is it his Warg powers or some kind of Stark bloodline thing?
"In a fight, anger is as good as courage" - welsh proverb.
The wolfs blood! Brandon had it and so did Lyanna I believe. Don’t think it always translates to temperament so you could be on to something here
The seed is Strong.
I think he gains the strength of his direwolf under emotional terminal, I can’t wait until we see Jon fight with ghost or ride him into battle
His warging ability gives him +2 Strength and +1d4 bludgeoning damage for 10 minutes once per long rest.
An additional d4 at levels 5, 12, 15 and 20.
“towers by the sea, submerged beneath a black and bloody tide” melisandre might have seen the Battle of Blood
I think R'hllor (or whatever) was trying to warn her about Euron and Oldtown, and Mel wildly misread the signs as is her wont.
@@DavidReadsASoIaF yeah Red Rahloo is definitely trying to warn the red priests, it’s no coincidence Moqorro glimpses a similar vision
@@DavidReadsASoIaF Those damn gods always being so vague.
@@DavidReadsASoIaF tbf there are many towers by the sea side across westeros so I don't blame her
I am trying and failing to remember if any of Dany's visions in the House of the Undead or the predictions the woman with the red mask gave her mentions anything similar?? 🤔
I’ve grown to love the guy you make sound like Eeyore so much. I couldn’t spell his name if I tried but man he always has something interesting or funny to say and your voice for him is perfect
38:10 A bag of finger bones OMG she is hinting of Devos!
What she has done?
Yeah wtf
I heard people say that this chapter truly shows how misunderstood Mel is, and now I believe it too.
She literally sets people on fire. She's a religious nut job.
She see’s Jon then his wolf then Jon I think after his death he goes to ghosts body then returns to his own when he is revived
Thus he gains a hold on his skin changer powers along side his revival from death
yeah no doubt, but how will she resurrect him?
@@beemoney217 i would assume the same way thoros resurrected beric dondarion
He will also realize his warging abilities. I don't think Melisandre knows he is a warg.
@@lisarood9509 does she not? I thought she hinted at it in the last jon chapter.
Look forward to seeing this channel in a year or two, bet its huge.
Yes! This is the chapter I’ve been most excited for. I love this channel so much!
Thank you!
"Show me your king".
Sees Bran.
King Bran is ASOIAF's ending.
Mel saw Jon, not Bran.
@@sgauden02 When Mel says "Show me your king" in the fifth book she sees a vison of The Three Eyed Crow and Bran.
@@jurassicpark1fan920 She also saw Jon here.
@@sgauden02meaning there will be more than one king.
in TWOW (and maybe ADOS?) Melisandre will be manipulated by visions sent via Euron... think about it:
Melisandre is exceptionally sensitive as a psychic, glass candles can send visions, the glass candles are burning in the house of Urrathon Nightwalker aka Euron Greyjoy, Daenerys has been receiving dreams of Euron, and in the Forsaken Euron has a tall terrible woman with white fire in her hands................
Melisandre, my sweet sweet priestess with the soul of a dreamer mystic and artist...
she even thinks Bran and Brynden are servants of the Others! Euron will leverage this fo sho
This chapter is so good, I need to listen to it once again! My guilty pleasure
Is "Melanie" a different person, or did the Red Temple rename her something cooler?
🔥😎🔥
more like it was her who changed her own name. the red temple priests are slaves, and she definitely doesn't think of herself as a slave
7 blessings David you fecking hero
Mel is the Fire equivalent of the Night's Queen
Love this idea!
Nah she’s not nearly that powerful.
Such an amazing chapter. Awesome symbolism and foreshadowing aside, the characterization of Melisandre is great. In one chapter she goes from a mysterious and somewhat villainous character to a sympathetic and likable one.
One of my favourite characters low-key. When the Red Woman and Stannis the Mannis are together, no one's safe 😈
Ah, you’re just saying that because she makes it all look so easy 💃🔥
but they're not together.

4 in under 48 hours! You got a lot of good karma coming your way David!
Do you think we'll see Jon in Winds of Winter solely from Melisandres perspective similar to how Catelyn observes Robb
I hope not. I definitely think we'll get Jon from Dany's pov chapter.
@@mschell8022 probably like tryion and sansa there'd be shared perspectives
She is the only POV at Castle Black
Looking at how the rest of the books could play out, Jon Snow would be around a plethora of POVs throughout rest of the books - Mel, Sam, Arya, Sansa, Sam, Bran, Dany, possibly Barristan - so I doubt the POVs will be an issue
One of my favorite chapters. Still trying to figure out if she swapped John and Mance Rader?
Lord 'o' Bones*

Oops
Sounds very likely
This chapter is quite surprising. And that twist at the end is quite intriguing.
😳😳😳 never saw this twist coming at all 😳😳😳
Wow
"Rattleshirt's" real identity was hinted when he no diffed snow in a sword fight.
That makes sense I was like when did rattleshirt get so good with a greatsword lol
R'hllor: Azor Ahai is the jhon snow. The same you were trying to smash using me as an excuse.
Milisandre: what does it mean.
And how the only connection is the one phrase which means oh why red herring 😮
Wtf!
Awesome chapter!
The red women is crazy!
I wonder what King Baratheon thinks about all this?
That she's really hot and makes him feel special.
Thank you
The best chapter of DoD
Daggers in the dark. So good.
Yay!!!
This just changed the tone of my day thank you!
The bag of fingger bones line ..what is going to happen with davos
So excited for this one
Please lord please... Let stanis be the king..
The sword is wrong.
If you ever read this, can you consider doing fire and blood? Specifically the dance of dragons??
Stannis has the right of it, I think gelding rapists should make a comeback. If only we had a sure fire justice system. I’m sure Stannis’s men were caught in the act but irl, it doesn’t often happen like that. Also it’s sweet Mellie cares for Davos enough to try to protect his son.
"A thousand skulls... And Jon Snow" will Jon Snow become a white walker? I assume the thousand skulls refers to the army of the dead
More like he'll become Mel's Wight, like the Night's King.
Maybe he will lead the dead Kings of Winter against the White Walkers.
Tower by the Sea is Oldtown right?
The sea of black The Crow's Eye?
yep thats my theory
Mel gotta salt shaker or two on her ankles.. 😂😂😂
This really was a fucking good chapter!!!
Yes. I'm just glad Melisanduhr doesn't own a brooch!
I always pronounce it as Melisan-dra in my head. I don't know why. And I love this chapter but I'm not sure if including it was a good idea. Maybe M should have stayed super mysterious (like Littlefinger and Varys). This kind of cuts into that mystery somewhat. But personally it's one of my favorite Dance chapters.
at 6:03 melisandre seems to be a bit full of herself. bennero and moqorro are both better at reading visions than her
Those visions in fires can be tricky to read :)
She saw blood raven and bran
Mel's real opinion on Davos wow
Dolorus Edd!!!
“A bag of finger bones” 38:06 what is she up to???
Melony, Lot Seven.
Wait! She's trying to sway him to get rid of the Wildlings, by setting up crimes to falsely accuse them of?
Sharp as a ball aren't you?
Yo…. Did Mel just admit she has davos’ finger bones…
“A glamour is made from these things” “ or a bag of finger bones”
"a bag of finger bones"?!?! 😮🤯
3 eyed raven and Bran she saw in flames?
If that red ruby can change persons appearance when it glows, then what about Melisandre's ruby itself? it always glows, and she has flashback of some "Melony," is she using other person's look?
Btw, I think we got glimpse of Melisandre not being a terrible person back in ASOS, during one of Davos chapters. I remember she even had some role of setting him free. So, Davos being too harsh from his POV. Bad things she has done is burning people alive and that shadow thing.
She says the signs could lie, but then she devotes couple years to Stannis just because he happened to live on dragon stone... like what? So if she had just left Ashai now and saw Loras on dragon stone he could be the chosen one? I think Danny was the one the vision meant? wasn't she born on Dragon stone? or is it Aegon/young griff? dunno, maybe it is Stannis but I have doubts.
yep that was bloodraven and bran were the faces she saw that she thought were servants of the great other. i think she saw a vision of stannis leading men in battle against the others and over exagerated his importance. he has a part to play, but he isn't azor ahai
So is anyone clear if Davos right now is actual davos or a glamour.
What’s up with the bag of finger bone things 🤔…does this have something to do with Davos?
Yea
Ugh, why people in this book address their meals with their battle blades? George really was thinking cannibalism when he wrote it.
Mfs who think Dany is Azhor Ahai are tweaking
It's Melisandre not Melissnder listen 2 the show. The books are so much better and thank U 4 reading them. She's older than we think🤔.
Wait a minute she has davos bones😮
😘
Finger bonesssss???????
I gotta say, the way you pronounce "Melisander" bothers me.
I wonder if the bag of fingerbone comment will come back for an illusion of Davos.
Melisan. Dre. Not er
Dotrice did it this way too
Duhrrr
Her name is pronounced DRUH at the end, not DER.
I'm glad these are on RUclips but he mispronounces so many words and names that ot drives me up the wall.
Who cares 😂
We say sentuh though its spelled centre, so Mellisanduh makes sense
