  • Dr. Rowe shows easy exercises that can offer instant suboccipital muscle pain relief, even in as little as 30 seconds.
If you're unfamiliar with he suboccipital muscles, they are a group of muscles that are located under the base of the skull.
When they become strained and inflamed, they can cause pain in the upper neck that can radiate to the back and side of the head. Also, they are a main muscle that causes tension headaches.
To make getting relief easy, the exercises will focus on lengthening and strengthening the suboccipital muscles for both quick and long-lasting relief.

Video suggestion: how about one on the psoas muscles/kidney area, or thereabouts? My husband had lumbar fusion surgery years ago (two rods and 6 screws) and often complains of pain in this area on one side, which may not be muscular, but worth a try. Surgeon went back in and removed some hardware on that side, but it didn't relieve the pain. Thank you.

What can I do when I have pain down in the cervical spine at the point between the seventh cervical vertebrae, and the first thoracic vertebrae. It’s like they are hanging together and the pain is on the right side of the neck and the base of the cervical spine to the shoulder.

I've not heard of some of these exercises for the neck. I did a couple of them as I was watching the video and my neck already feels better. A couple mornings ago I woke up with some neck pain. Great video!

I had a cervical spine fusion in 2003 a level three- my 5,6,7.I can’t put my chin in my chest very easily, but I can do everything else. I occasionally get really stiff weird muscle spasms in my neck. I’m sure it relates to that. These have helped greatly! Thank you so much!

I have this and I've been using these exercises but it still is tight. It never releases. What causes this to stay tense? I have the same problem for the trapezius shoulder muscles.
This is causing intense nerve pain down my right shoulder. I've had my 4th, 5,6 and 8th vertebrae fused 8 years ago for pain down my left arm. Now I'm getting it down my right arm.

Great video. But your first exercise causes a bad spasm only on the left side of my neck! Six years ago, I had brain surgery to successfully remove a beenign brain tumour on the left side, just above my ear in doing some of the exercises. Why and what to do. The seasons stop me doing sone of these exercises. Tks
