Now we need a giant piano and giant flute for a whole orchestra of big instruments
Already is a giant flute, it’s called a subcontrabass
@@ss-shapeshifter. no, the hyperbass is more superior because it is a percussion instrument because the notes are so low!

When I was in junior high we went on a Field trip to visit the Houston Symphony Orchestra to see and hear all the instruments. A call went out for someone to request a song and an instrument to play it on. I got picked and asked if all the musicians knew "Flight of the Bumblebee" (everone did) and I picked this absolutely Titanic sized tuba. Hilarity ensued as that poor man absolutely could *not* make it through the peice for all his (and the orchestra's laughter). This happend in 1982 or so and I think it was my finest moment being a mischievious little brat for requesting those few minutes of pure musical flatulance.
if only there was a recording of that... wait, sub-contrabass tubas are still used in bands/orchestras?
Absolutely hilarious!
Yoooo jeff...that flight of thr bumble bee is the shiznit broly..sheeesh I love it..dang I wish I could've been in it wit you broly..we played it at Morris brown college back in the days..played it as a trumpet fanfare back in high-school, an octave up..cheeeeeeezuuus...that was classic back in 92..screaming demons class of 93 aaayyee💯💯💥‼️‼️‼️👍🏿👍🏿
I'll bet the tuba player in the Canadian Brass could play it--he can play the Clarinet Polka up to speed on his tuba.
This man is playing so good and if I played one note on that I would run out of air even though I’m a tuba player myself
As someone who hoisted up the mighty tuba I have respect for the player of the tuba

Peter played the Trombone ya silly.
I was looking for that comment :-)
Came here into the comments section looking for a Peter Griffin reference. Than you good sir.
he actually does play the tuba
No one is talking about the lungs required to play it. This Tuba player is a beast for playing it as well as the condition of it allowed!
Well, he did. That was the conclusion of the video. _Literally_ the last words spoken in this video, so...
All kinds of people were talking about it, before you made your comment. You're just too lazy to find them.
Gigantic man playing on a gigantic tuba now seems very compact
"it doesn't have any pistons or valves." -Proceeds to show images of the valves.
ikr
I bet the valves are just in terrible shape and could be restored
The valves are just there for show. They said in another video that they don't actually work. Notice how the first and second valves don't have valve caps.
Just because the valves don't work now, doesn't mean they didn't once work. This is no excuse for bad journalism.
valve caps come off/fall off tho...
why the heck would they be there for show?
I thought this meant a tuba from the titanic...
I wasn't disappointed but this isn't what I thought.

Tuba is one of the brass I tried to play in school, on top of trumpet. I never learnt how to properly play either. The most interesting thing I found out about tuba's is if you pat the mouth piece on a tuba or trumpet, you get a bit of noise out of it. Half the time as a AHDH kid in Grade 7 and 8 I just screwed around.
I also tried ALto and Tanor Sax, didn't do well with them but did learn how to play a reed instrument at least.
We put a bari sax reed on a Sousa in marching band and it sounded like muto from godzilla
The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep one last time!
+Frabjous Yes.
Huh
Sounds more like the horn the dwarf blew when Thoren led the charge from the Lonely Mountain Dwarf Kingdom!!! I loved the deep sound, but then, I like bass instruments.
Imagine 2:13 playing as the king makes the final charge! ...Then apply palm directly to face.
I was thinking the same thing! Bombur could play this thing. Sometimes it takes a dwarf....
I like how he had to take a breath every two notes.
Someone needs to make a Titanic Tuba boss theme.

Why in the world hasn't Carl Fischer Music had this tuba rebuilt? It would be a small price to pay for preserving an important piece of musical history.
Petition to have this and a contrabass clarinet and a contrabass flute and a contrabass trumpet etc. etc. play together in a band.
That's the real life final tuba boss
What if someone fell into there and got lost?

Bigger than New York apartments
That is why it weighs 100 lbs.
@@johndennison2769 lol
It does have pistons, it just needs to be fixed! If it is so valuable, why doesn't Carl Fisher pay to have it fixed in working condition. It will work like a regular Tuba. It also probably has some leaks, but a good repair technician could fix that easily!
I cant stop watching this vid just the end when he plays it, i love that part
We need a second one of these, they're the musical equivalent of army tanks.
I love seeing instruments like this. Versions of instruments we all know and love going so low. I love seeing that! ♡
Does anyone besides me remember Gerard Hoffnung ? His series of London concerts in the late 50s were the ancestors of music spoofs. He himself was a tubist & often featured the instrument seen here; the Subcontrabass tuba especially featured in his arrangment of a Chopin Mazurka for tuba quartet & Jacobs' composition "Variations on Annie Laurie" scored for bass instruments. From what I can recall, there are only 2 of these instruments in existence.
Derek sounds great on that huge tuba. I love it!
I felt the vibration here in Italy whe you have played that Tuba! 😂😁 Beautiful Bass Sound!
my chest hurt watching this
This is how they get the 'brown note '.
oh, I get it - like Molly Brown from the Titanic (unsinkable)
katuroo you don't get the joke because that's not it
the also called pants changer notes
well if the tone hites between 6 or 8 Hz you can't hear it but you body will and some parts of your body might "loosen up"
South Park reference?
I love how the frequency's so low you can hear the individual oscillations of the waveform! That's awesome!
Doctor: Big Carl the Tuba doesn’t exist, it can’t hurt you.
Big Carl the Tuba:
If it cannot play chromatically, then it is not a tuba. It is just a titanic bugle
+Noa Leslie Nope... the characteristic that sets apart a bugle from a trumpet, tuba, etc is not the fact that it can't play chromatically, it has to do with the shape of the bell and the conical bore.
As a tuba player it's always cool to come back to this video to watch it
Can you explain why they say it has no pistons or valves, when they even open the valve and there are 3 pistons on it?
A great way to get even with those upstairs neighbor's loud, all-night party.
uau, que instrumento magnífico
Defeated the Tuba Gunner and searching for the next boss... This can be a challenging enemy.
1:29 A Bell on a Normal Tuba is around 18-19 Inches, this one is just about 41 Inches so it's much much larger than your average Tuba.
I play Baritone B.C in my school band. And I love it!
1:11 It's not a Normal Tuba, it doesn't actually have any pistons and Valves, it can only play the fundamental pitches which would be I, V. I'm checking to see if it's the worlds biggest Bugle, I've been in contact with the genius book of world records, I haven't heard back yet.
In band class in high school I was in drum section and my best friend played the tuba, so naturally I would often put water bottles and plastic wrappers in his tuba while he'd play. Oh the nostalgia
DND 5e allows Outlander background to be proficient in one instrument.
I bet they didn't stop to consider the contrabass tuba.
It’s hard to believe you can play this with a normal size lung
A titanic playing a titanic. Either this tuba was made for him, or he was made for this tuba.
And people thought marching with snare drums was hard, try using this.
funny thought! x^D
it is hard sometimes fyi
+Alex Davis ok?
yeah marching tuba is harder it's all on one shoulder and it's heavier
Marching with a quad is wayyyyy harder 😂😂
I think you should refurbish this unique and fantastic horn! It would be well worth it.
The sound of the tuba... and the comments section... make for several minutes of near death laughter.
This guy is a hero for trying to get a recognizable sound out of that thing!
A)that would be better classified as a Bombardon B)the valves are there, they just are stuck and need to be worked on C) You need to send that sucker to Oberloh woodwind and brass works for a full restoration
I thought the normal tuba was big.
I'd love to be as enthusiastic about my life, as these people are about a titanic tuba
“What instrument do you play?”
Oh the big Carl.
Finally! They've discovered the brown note!
Thought i was the only one who pooped them selves during this video.
thx man
Woah, he played the first etude for my region band tryouts!
That is the biggest tuba I've ever seen! You have to find someone 7 ft plus with larg lungs to play that big thing.
As a professional horn player, and have designed a few. This particular tuba, after examining it very closely, all the valve tubing is of the correct length an proportion. All it needs are 2 missing piston cap's a good dose of spittle on the piston valve plungers. And then place An add for giant with good copious lung capacity. Boom boom 😯
Ohh yea you really sound like a professional there with your " good dose of spittle on the piston valve plungers " Do you even know how valves work on a brass horn ? So because you turn on the fire siren horn in your community for every drizzle of rain drops , this makes you a professional horn blower ? I'm sure you are full of hot air though .
Memes aside the amount of air required to do the thing he did at the end is insane, literal freak of nature
でっっっか………!!!
すごい でっか!! ははああ 面白い ^0^
Only a guy with the lungs of a horse can really play that ginormous tuba.
Now that I have heard them I will be alerted before them in my ears, thank you! It is a very good horn!
1:01 omg his quack is on point
*after playing the Titanic Tuba*
Band teacher: And there's your warm up let's move on.
If I had the opportunity to play that gigantic thing, I would've played the Uncle Ruckus theme.
If this was played in a musical setting that tuba player would die of being out of breath.
tem que ter um segundo pulmão pra tocar este instrumento muito fôlego!
What do you mean there are no valves?? there are obviously 3 valves on it. 2 of which are missing buttons. It just hasn't been taken very good care of. it just needs repairs and referbating.
yep
just cause it's got 3 valves doesn't mean those valves are real
She probably meant they are just for show and don't actually work.
That tuba really does need some TLC. If *I* had it, I wouldn't be toting it around like that. I'd have it cleaned, repaired, shined, and tuned.
L
would appreciate a longer version of the vid. perhaps a brass ensemble? or, with the Octobass and a few other instuments?
So lovely Instrument
Actually super impressive that he could sorta play that thing.
team this up with the octobasse for the ultimate band :P
+Main Drain Studios octobass… not to be confused with octopus :D
yes. yes. let's do it! I'd pay front row price!

When they said that it didn't have any pistons or valves I said "That's tubad"
nice
I was expecting it to sound like a fog horn off a ship lol 👍.
um it clearly has three valves and all the tubing for them. they are just seized in the open position only allowing you to play open tones. This is not a bugle. Please restore it.
Seized open? Does that mean that if able to close the valves, the lowest note would be even lower than what we heard?
@@suserman7775 Yeah, it means the length of tubing would increase and thus the natural frequency would decrease, allowing you to play the full chromatic scale
THEY DON'T HAVE PISTONS. JFC
Tuba King’s final phase...
Legend has it she is still waiting around from them.
LOL "WOW! Look at that giant tuba!!" Love her
I would have lost my breath with one blow 😂😂
So I have absolutely no idea how brass instruments work. I’m a woodwind player, so someone please tell me if this is improbable. But could you make something where four people blow into the tuba at the same time. If they are coordinated you could play music that’d sound great
Only with one way valves for each person so you aren't breathing each others breath. and it actually all goes INTO the tuba!
I play clarinet and saxophone and, just recently, tuba. On a woodwind, the sound comes from the vibrating reed. On brass instrument, the sound comes from your vibrating lips. So, brass instruments are really "lip-wind" instruments. I made that up, sorry. Just like the instrument of a woodwind amplifies the sound of the reed's vibration, the brass instrument amplifies the vibration of the player's lips. So, muliple vibrating lips = multiple notes being amplified.
I should hire someone to wake me up in the morning with this
Sounds like the mother ship from Close Encounters!
The mothership was actually voiced by a tuba.
I barely have enough air for my tuba! And that thing is so much more intense
Mmmf. I just started playing tuba a while ago, I feel ya.
This tuba is made for dinosaurs to play
Imagine playing this in middle school band and having to haul it back and forth every day.
Talvez seja fabricada em São Paulo na Cidade de ITU, precisa fôlego e disposição para esse instrumento e o Max.
AND I THOUGH THE TUBA WAS HUGE!
I shall call it... Tyranituba Rex
You should restore this one of a kind instrument.
It's history.
I’m a trumpet player so when I hear tubas play I’m like “oooo that’s low!!”🤣🤣
So they're calling the tuba a bugle because the valves are broken? At least, that's what it looks like in the video.
Not broken valves. According to the video, they're just decorations.
It's a 'bugle' because it doesn't actually have valves.
Richard Austin It just seems weird that you would make the valves decorative but have working spit valves.
Schmidty why? When you play it there still will be condensation. Not spit lol
Those valves look reasonably genuine - most certainly they can - and should - be made to work on this curiosity of an instrument!!! This is the instrument which could allow an orchestra to fully reach down in sound to 32'-C, something which only an organ - or a Bösendorfer *"Imperialflügel"* - can actually do.
