  • The railway is based in the 1950's and 60's up to closure. The track layout is as close as can be in a model and includes Green Park station, both S&D and Midland sheds, Midland Bridge and S&D yards, Bath Junction, Devonshire Bank and tunnel, Lyncombe Vale, Combe Down tunnel, Midford station and viaduct, Writhlington Colliery and exchange sidings and is run with correct stock and to timetable for the period

I used to travel on that line as a kid, we lived in Radstock and regularly got the train to Bath. I recognise some of those scenes, very realistic. I remember having to close the windows before entering the tunnels just after Midford or the carriage would fill with smoke!

Thanks and how lucky are you to have actually travelled on the line. I caught it at the end and saw steam working on the S&D. Even travelling the line taking down track plans as I was always going to model the S&D!

The S&D is always a magical subject. Thank you so much for allowing us to share in the pleasure of your incredible layout, and for taking the time to make and produce such wonderful videos. For lovers of that venerable railway, apart from Ivo's fine legacy, this is now the closest we will ever get to experiencing a typical summers day at Green Park. Again, thank you.

When I worked for the GPO as a Telegram delivery Messenger in 1967-70.. I remember the 3 wheeled Scammels at the end of the road under the guise of “National Carriers”. For overtime at weekends I used to go to Watford Junction Station with other postman and load Mail trains with sacks of mail and parcels, the sacks were tied using the string and leads. Great memories and great days I miss very much…

I also was a boy scout with HQ alongside the embankment on the way to Lyncombe vale tunnel. However, I only rode on the SDR twice as Bristol was my usual destination on the GWR where I collected most of my engine numbers..... those were the days. Remember seeing pictures of the engine that came through the end of Green Park Station onto the street i.e. didn't stop at the buffer !

A great strength of this video is the way the depth of field is maintained, the lighting is even, and there’s no continual shifting a focus as it often is in model railroad videos. You should perhaps consider a video on your techniques for shooting since these are really a major factor in why these videos are so beautifully presented.

Bath Green Park wasn't a particularly important station, but it's only when you watch all these light engine movements that you realise just how inefficient steam railways really were. More romantic maybe, but one can't help wondering if an earlier move to diesels might have saved the S&D. Excellent model.

Glad that you are enjoying the videos.
The railway is in a room 45' x 15' and is fixed so not transportable. Suggest subscribe to my RUclips and you will automatically receive new videos as I produce them. Will be starting on the next one soon

Beautiful layout, a shame in a way that so little exists of the line

Thanks and agreed. A couple of years ago I drove the line with my good lady driving and me navigating off my Ipad. I would keep instructing her to 'turn now' and we would drive up yet another country lane to find more remnants of a bridge or similar. She is very tolerant!

It probably deserved the name with trains plugging up the 1 in 50 banks at 15mph
