I appreciate this video man. Sitting out here with the meter just realizing the two negatives with my new led lights. Started thinking of relays and saw this video that’s gonna make wiring up a lot easier. Thanks man

Great video. I did the same headlight upgrade on my 93 3000GT Z Offroad brand as well. I ran just the low beams and fog lights for a while till I figured out the strange power supply and headlight switch of the car Lol.

I appreciate the comment! The negative triggered switch was quite the curve ball when upgrading to LEDs...

This is super helpful, I was so confused when trying to install my headlights and the highbeams were shutting the whole light off. Thanks!

Glad it was helpful! Life would have been much easier if they used a conventional positively triggered switching method for sure. Thanks for watching :)

Do you have a site were we can print out your wiring schematic?

Help it didn't work. I followed everything exactly as you did. Before the mod low beam worked but turning high beam on turns them off after doing 1 side the side obosite of the one that has the mod works high and low but the one with the relay doesn't work at all. After doing both sides with the mod in low beam mode they are high and in high beam mode they are high. I can't get help from anyone on this issue

Hello, I see in one of your comments you recommended an Amazon product (key B083BRBD67), which seems to be a typical H4 Polarity Converter. There's some on other sites too, like eBay (some of which could show up faster, which I might need). I just placed an order for some LED headlights for my '92 Stealth ES (It has a high/low beam functionality, along with DRLs and turn signals but that wiring isn't much more work and I can figure that out). Are you saying that it's basically "plug and play" with a H4 Polarity Converter, and no other wiring work is necessary? If that's the case I need to order some, instead of going through the headache with these relays.. I could do it, but don't have lots of time for doing this project.

I have this followed to a T. High beams still don't switch and fog lights stay on.

To troubleshoot, if you test directly by eliminating the relay, are you able to get the high beam to energize? Use the 3 wire/spade adapter and plug the high beam positive (red wire) to the disgonal terminal at the car, and the black to either of the other two, then cycle your high/low beam to see if the high beam energizes. Test the same with the low beam. Also...be sure to triple-check your ground connection when using the relay. During some of my testing, my ground terminal spliced between the headlamp and the relay wasn't making proper contact and it sent me on an hour long goose chase until I figured out that was it. The ground point on the car I was using had heavy oxidation that made for poor contact.

@@helixroad yes pulling the relay out I can get power to high beam. If I pull the body ground from the back side of the relay I can get low beam to turn off when I hit the high beams and the fog lights turn off. If I attached the body ground the high beam switch on the column makes no effect.

@@helixroad pin 30 has no power on the relay at all. Both high and low beam mode. I thought I may have had something reversed and have tried multiple relays

@@Number1fanofstuff could it be a bad relay that's not able to switchover? Not sure if you have more than 1 in hand to try. I do recall running into a few frustrations during my experimentation before homing in on the right terminal arrangement to properly trigger the switchover, but it sounds like you've already tried all the right things with that relay.

Hey man ease reach out to me asap i really need help with this im at the point where im willing to pay you to make me a harness for my lights to work in my 93... its hard for me to see what ur doing in the dark, u need better lighting

    • @helixroad

Hey John, even though in some ways bulkier, there's a ready-made solution on Amazon nowadays. Do a search for the following Amazon ASIN: B083BRBD67
I highly recommend going that route instead as it'll save you both time and money, but because of the shortened wire lengths it can be a bit of a challenge to install within our popup headlight assemblies. You can always install longer wires.
Hope that gets you up and running quick! Cheers!

@@helixroad Hey! I think this is more my speed, but I've seen headlights with turn signal wires as well. I assume we would need to splice a wire onto the turn signal to that headlight wire or is that one also backwards polarity??
