One of the most unique horror films I've ever seen. Producers in Hollywood have kept asking the filmmakers, "When are you going to write a sequel?" And they keep responding, "Have you seen the movie?"
Maybe not a sequel, even if you can make one about a post apocalyptic world, but what about prequels with the stories of different groups of friends against these monsters
The fact that this movie is not only a narrative, but also an allegory and satire but also retoactively could explain every other U.S. American movie is another reason this is such not just a top-notch horror film, but movie overall.
I once read a fan theory that Dana was The Fool & Marty was The Virgin since she had an affair with a professor & we aren't told anything about Marty's love life, which would be a clever subversion of the character tropes like so much else in this movie.
During the lake scene, the only student not to jump into the lake is Marty, who remains fully clothed on the dock. This was partially due to Fran Kranz noticeably being in as good, if not better, shape than the other male students. In the commentary for the film, the writers joke that he was "ripped like muscular Jesus" and assert that if Marty were shown being that fit it would ruin the character. This is partly also why Marty wears baggier clothes than the other students.
You wanna know the super, crazy, secret twist of the movie? The Ancient Ones are supposed to be us, the audience. We show up to the movie theater each film to see a random group of teens get killed by a random monster. We have an organization trying desperately to appease us, IE: The studios that crank out cheap horror movies. We got mad and shook the earth when Marty died off-screen, because we knew he would come back later, like they always do. We get angry when we don't get the same, boring formula and "give somebody else a chance" is letting new, fresh horror movie ideas take the place of the same old, tired, rebooted crap.
Love the fan theory that Marty was the Virgin and Dana the Fool and that's why they beat the ritual. Also think it's cool how the Ancient Ones are implied to be the OG audience demanding certain classic horror tropes and breaking those rules will piss them off and destroy the world.
Oh no. That was true hahaha. The original ending had Dana shot Marty to save the world only for the ancient ones to rise after realizing that Dana was the Whore and Marty was the Virgin all along. The audience didn't like it so they changed the ending which is 100% times better
I also love how they are all introduced in the opening truly shows that they are not their character tropes at all. The virgin is talking about how she slept with her professor, the scholar catches the book thrown out the window, the athlete gives book recommendations etc. then at that uncomfortable scene at the cabin when they're partying they've all reverted completely into their tropes except the fool.
Great reference early on; in the opening scene when they're talking about "the glitch in 1998" that was the fault of the chem department, that refers to the movie "The Faculty."
A perfect getaway is a great movie. It’s a good thriller Starring Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and Timothy Olyphant. Also it was one of Chris Hemsworths first films.
I remember watching this movie with a friend and when we got to that scene where Chris’ character dies we immediately figured out what was going to happen and we just completely lost it lol
I think it was a spoiler to show the force field at the beginning (bird flying into it). Would have been a real shocker to see that come out of nowhere. The "hero speech" right before he leaves them is epic.
@@slimmccoy8863 It’s foreshadowing so when you get to that moment you (hopefully) figure out what’s about to happen, making the whole heroic speech and inspiring music even more hilarious
I just remember the utter confusion at the very start when seeing this in theaters. We came in when the men were talking. Me and my boyfriend were like "Are we in the right movie? Did we get here late?" lol
I live with my grandma, who has dementia. Grey's is her comfort show. I've probably watched through that thing 3x with her now. She finishes it and starts over the next day.
Honestly you 2 ladies are probably one of my favorite RUclipsrs not a lot of people do horror movies and the fact that you guys are riding out all of the best ones makes me or us love you more
this is the perfect movie to jump into after coming off of the franchises yall just did especially Evil Dead, which is the cabin in the wood inspiration
I've been waiting for you two to get to this movie. The scream queens of the reject nation needed a break after the paranormal activity and slasher flicks lol.
the English language is amazing. how different is "let's go to the cottage in the forest" from "let's go to the cabin in the woods". but boy is the feeling you get from them different!
I think I remember reading somewhere that there was supposed to be a collaboration between left 4 dead 2 and cabin in the woods where the underground facility was going to be a level in the game but they couldn't get it ready in time for the release of the movie. Also during the monster cube sequence if you look closely you can see various zombies from both left 4 dead games.
Thank you, rejects and shejects. Your reactions give me the escape I need to get through the day much love to the whole team, including ones who work behind the scenes we appreciate you all
Fun fact : Fran Kranz who's playing the pothead, had an unbelievable body while filming this movie so the director put him in baggy clothes and he wasn't shirtless at any point because "potheads geeks" aren't supposed to look like that (Edit) : didn't see they talked about it at the end 😅
It’s really puts every scary movie into perspective. They’re references to the puzzle from Hellraiser the strangers eat Chucky legend Anaconda eight legged freaks killer crowns from Outer space and many more.
what makes this movie even better is the fact that a big chunk of this movies effects and monsters were done practically! highly recommend the behind the scenes for this movie!
Jesse Williams used to be a teacher, making him appropriate for the character who is pigeonholed into the role of The Smart Guy. Fran kranz is actually super jacked which is why his clothes are so baggy and loose.
Fun fact: This movie was actually how Chris Hemsworth got the part for Thor (this movie was filmed in 2009 but didn’t release until 2012). Joss Whedon (producer and Avengers Director) was impressed by Chris’ performance and told him he should consider auditioning and the rest is history.
This was a surprising movie in a good way. Else I am going to push Return Of The Living Dead for two scream queens here. I don't want to spoil anything but I am just going to say I know you'll love that one and part of the reason will be the cast.
Roxy: this is such a pro pothead movie! Me: That's why i loved this movie. No Roxy. You were spot on with the virgin thing. After several rewatch of the movie, the ritual was bound to fail either way because of their roles being swapped. The Athlete was Holden as shown and mentioned by Kurt that he just got back from military earlier in the movie. That and how he easily got the football when it was flown out the window. The Fool was easily Jules because she's clumsy and quirky. The Virgin was Marty because in a quick dialogue between him and Jules he mentioned how they both dated and he only kissed her once.
You need to watch a video on the easter eggs of this movie. They actually break down certain scenes like the cellar and the monsters. And explain to you where they come from. And what they're related to it is really detailed and interesting
One of the best Horror Comedies ever made. A great thrill ride with great satire and twists and turns. The Stoner is The Best Character and everyone played their part so well.
Idk which crew members, but either the director, writer, casting, idk.. They were the ones who suggested Chris for Thor.. because he was a great actor, and they also knew the popularity he would get doing Thor would boost people to see this movie The monster that had saws in his head was a reference to Hellraiser
I was in the theater and was watching this and I saw that there was scientist working in a factory or lab. I was like oh we walked into the wrong movie. Also references to the hills have vives with the guy at the gas station before the main characters meet their demise.
Yall are exactly right! I think this is what got Jesse Williams greys and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. They shot this before either were big but the movie got heald up with the sale of mgm so it took a couple years yo come out so Chris was Thor now and Jesse was already on greys.
This movie is one of the best in horror. I knew when I saw the title appear randomly, I was in for a treat😂. Such a fun ride that's surprisingly smart for its satire nature!
I changed my mind, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for these two to react to the Mark Flanagan’s Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor, Fall of the House of Usher etc…. It would be content for MONTHS and I would be here for it!!!
It is probably one of the best horror movies, one of the most unique ones. Sadly I doubt anyone can suggest similar movies because of it being so unique.
Roxy is the SpongeBob to Tara's Squidward. She always looks slightly annoyed and is not a touchy feely person like Roxy. I love horror movies which is half of why i watch the "shejects." The other half is the train wreck of sticking these two total opposites together and waiting for Tara to snap and yell quit touching me.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil! It is so great! It really feels like 2 movies expertly slapped together in a way that just works. It is my favorite horror comedy I have ever seen. 2 groups of characters that feel like they are in 2 different movies, but it just works. Also Alan Tudyk is in it and I just love that man. Oh! Another great horror comedy is Werewolves Within, with Sam Rickardson. It's like an offbeat horror comedy and an absolute blast. Another I think horror is Deathgasm. It's about metal heads who summon the end of times. It's a New Zealand film, I think. Again, very quirky and off beat but so fun. For me it was a little overwhelming but that's because heavy metal makes my heart race and it's all about that genre of music. Still a very fun movie that needs more love.

My favorite detail is that Marty's weed use immunized him against the mind altering chemicals that affected the rest of them
