so anyway... when i was like 10yrs old i practiced a little goken-ryu and use to watch vids of shotokan karate and copy them then i found 'streetfighter' to which i realised i could utilize all of ken-ryu movements and since then i have trained using 'Shoken-ryu-do' (autodidact style/method/technique) and i 'borrowed' kata (bassai dai (42) and heian shodan (21) and actually recreated the 'Ansatsuken kata' my stance is 'forbidden' wide at the base but with emphasis of ken and ryu stance, with only 3 kata routines (possibly add/reincarnate more in the future) :) for physical and mental health it's fantastic and the fact that it is loosely based on a childhood game technique with some RL like shotokan etc just makes it even more fun to practice lol :)
ps' did i ever mention that Shoken-ryu-do uses the tatsumaki hadoken and shoryuken also?! I just edited the terms ie (tatsubassai kyaku-dai) 'straights/hooks/roundhouse/sidekicks' (hadoryu-ken) 'blocks+punches' (shohado-ryuken) 'hooked punches or straights' and (shodan-shoryuken) 'the uppercut' :)

Gankaku (Crane on A Rock). In Okinawa, this is Chinto and Koreans call this Jin Do. This is a great one too! I took first place with this in a tournament many years ago.

Gankaku was originally called Chinto, and is said to encode the fighting style of a shipwrecked Chinese pirate who bested Sokon Matsumura in a fight. 😊
Traditionally, gankaku is performed with yoko geri keage, but for more sport competitions it has been substituted for kekomi. I have no problem with that, but being able to perform both is the best possible scenario as a well rounded martial artist.
Great Dynamic Powerful KATA for Health: Demonstrating the POWERFUL SIDEKICK with no Lockout, SIDE SNAP HIGH KICK. In TAE KWON DO the SIDE SNAP KICK would be PERFORMED A VERY STRONG SIDE THRUSTING LOCKOUT KICK.
That's only because they are not trained as fighting systems any more. Karate, trained and applied as originally intended, is extremely practical in "the street".
I refuse to be coined 'sensei' as i have no authority on shotokan or goken as sensei literally means 'one who came before' and I ain't the founder of shotokan or goken so just call me 'padwan' as my method is young and i am still but a student of my own art. :)
No tutorial needed, but I believe Jesse Enkamp made a video on "Kiai". Basically, Kiai is Japanese for putting your energy together, as the word Ki means energy or life force. So simply put, if you want to have a strong kiai or shout, you must simply concentrate your entire mind, body, and spirit into the technique.

Jason sensei what belt or dan is the gankaku kata?
Any belt that can perform this kata with intensity, cleaness, knowledge of the moves, and the correct stances. Also make sure the stances are perfect.
