I feel very fortunate to have access to these videos. It's makes a huge difference in allowing us to learn our katas at our leisure and everything is very well explained. I couldn't be happier with them. Thank you!
Thank you very much for all of these wonderful Shotokan videos. I studied Shotokan within a small group for many years and wasn't part of an association. How I was taught the katas was about 90% to 95% the same with small differences here and there. Since I joined a Shotokan association it was requested that I do my kata the way Kanazawa does them. These videos have really helped me get the differences I was missing. Ossu
Dude, much thanks, been out the game for a while and now these kata and get me back into it. Was do weighlifting with aerobics which allowed me to maintain strength and flexibility to get back into the rhythm of the kata.
Oss, Sensei. Thank you for your attention to detail. I'm supposed to test next time and Gankaku is one of my katas. Your explanations are crystal clear and easy to remember. Oss! Jose Fernandez
I appreciate your personal effort to instruct as well the effort of your school; many thanks sensei paul walker and seishin shotokan karate dōjō. Excellent instructive material. Oshi shinobu no seishin.
Oss - I do have na important question: concerning manji-uke (starting at 1:40), is it Kanazawa's particular interpretation to perform the gedan-barae part coming *externally*, instead of internally? Because I have always done it the other way... gedan goes down internally and "age uchi" externally... Many thanks!
The best Kata teaching sensi, but at 3.20 to 3:40 the cameraman is totally lost, he/she focused on the hand movement while the more important at that moment is the foot and 180 degree body swing
I lack balance because of a stroke about 10 years ago. I was told that I could get back into martial arts. Can you help me adapt the kicks/spins without loosing the Bunkai of the Kata. I can spin on my left and throw kicks with my right leg however to pivot/spin on the right leg... it just won’t listen. The right leg is still braced from the Stroke and will likely remain so. Please and thank you Sir.
Yes, nidan-geri means two level kick and is done both in Gankaku and Kanku Dai by kicking chudan with the back leg as you jump up and while in the air kick jodan with the front leg. :)
