*note on second half* from wedge block to font kick, punch , punch, (same time) middle and low block; hirokazu kanazawa has his middle and low block in reverse with the middle block over the front leg as opposed to the low block over the lead leg; personally i dont think the difference matters in functionality (not that i know enough to judge on this) but i just spotted the difference and thought it might be worth mentioning (after watching a few more videos at random ive seen it both ways and find this difference oddly fascinating)
i only caught this after noticing the difference in hand position of the starting move of ji'in and jion for the sake of personal study as these kata were not taught to me

A reqired kata for advanced black belt testing. I noticed there's couple different forms of Jiin. we use The Best Karate Series by Sensei Nakayama as our guide to all Shotokan kata. Sensei Jason why is JIIn not on any Best Karate books?
According to some preliminary research it Gichin Funakoshi did not teach it extensively to his students, therefore JKA and Nakayama sensei chose not to adopt it in their curriculum.
@@ULTIMATEKARATEOFFICIAL Oddly, it was in and out of favor as a standard form. It was included in the JKA Blue Screen videos which were supposed to be authoritative, but not in Best Karate. Master Funakoshi did list it in a list of kata currently "studied and researched" at the Shotokan in early 1944. It was a form Kanazawa Sensei liked to teach when he was in the JKA, and I presume afterwards as it appears in his books and his videos. Older versions of the kata had four additional movements (age uke to oi zuki left and right) mirroring the beginning of the kata, which for whatever reason Nakayama Shihan chose to leave out .

When I learned this kata from Nishiyama the last 2 punches were 1 to Jodan and 1 to chudan.
It's a minor change, you can modify it anyway.

Jason, can I ask you a question? But are the two kata, Jion and Jiin "twins"? Because the movements are almost comparable, albeit with some differences.
Triplets, in fact. Jion, Jiin and Jitte are considered to be closely related and best studied together, a bit like the three Tekki katas.
Yes they are all similar and supposed to be practiced in conjunction. The Jion , jitte, jiin will make you very well rounded!
And if You do the Kata Wankan
You're on sacred ground! Ji'in (Temple Ground).

I like your technique, but you have several differences compared to Kancho Kanazawa and also my Sensei. Mostly kosa uke... which one is correct, yours or Kanazawas? Take a close look... Respect, OSS!

Different to shotokan. The uchi's at the end is reverse of what I do.
At first it looked easy but then when I try executing it, it's not as easy as it seemed😅

All the khosa uke's this sensi performs are opposite to the style I practice.

なぜ前蹴りからの左右の突きで相手を攻撃した後に交差受けで終わるのか、型の解釈を教えて欲しいです。
これがまだ前蹴り→交差受け→左右の突きと言うのならば意味が分かります。攻防の中で受けで終わるのはどう言う意味があるのか、型にはそういう不明瞭な点が多すぎます。
また、そういう不明瞭なところに合理性がないのであれば、数十年以上前に沖縄の島で生まれた型を何時迄も伝統として固執するのではなく今存命の高名な先生たちが改良し、作り替えていく事が空手が他の格闘技に負けない為には必要だと思います。
どうも日本経済の凋落と重ねてみてしまい、空手界の現状に不満を感じてしまいます。
