    Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
The Cure - The Head on the Door
The Smiths - Meat is Murder
Husker Du - New Day Rising
Husker Du - Flip Your Wig
    The Replacements - Tim
The Cult - Love (I'm surprsed no one mentioned this one)
Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always
Tears For Fears - Songs From the Big Chair
The Pogues - Run, Sodomy & the Lash
    Prefab Strout - Steve McQueen
    Killing Joke - Nightime
Waterboys - This is the Sea
The Style Council - Our Favorite Shop
A lot of non-metal and hard rock albums that I'm sure no one on the show likes but 1985 had a lot of great stuff

I fully agree with you on The Cure, The Smiths, The Pogues...and of course the genius of Hounds of Love album by Kate..they're all classic brilliant albums! I just separate genres for this show.

its always weird for me when i watch these panels because i was a complete Thrash guy in high school, but when i graduated in 90 i was losing interest in all the disappointing new releases of the last couple of years. then once grunge and 90s alt rock blew up i completely lost interest in new music and started investigating the previous 40 years of music i never really knew and a lot of my favorite music is new wave and goth and post punk of the early and mid 80s.

I used to have really bad headaches when I was fourteen, I went across the street to my friends to give him a tape of recorded punk stuff , I didn’t feel good, my head was throbbing so I knocked on the door, and he took the tape. In exchange he gave me a real cassette of hell awaits. I got it home, put it in and, wouldn’t you know, by the time the first side was over,I was okay. So there’s the beginning of my love of slayer.

For those who don't know. The Johansson brothers, that played on Malmsteens -85 album, had a father named Jan Johansson who was a famous jazz pianist. Died in a car crash in 1968 when the brothers were very young. He was very popular at the time of his death. His album "Jazz på svenska" (Jazz in swedish) where he combines old swedish folk music with jazz is still very popular and still sells pretty good.

Pete, the Hudson Valley Squares is more a heavy metal/thrash/ black/doom metal thing of late. I love watching it mainly for the personalities. I like a bit of thrash but don't go more intense than that. (Recently attended the Anthrax gig in London) Iwould love to see maybe a different show like you do with the prog stuff but just on the less heavy stuff. I unashamedly liked hair metal back in 87, I like Southern rock, 70's Glam Rock, some of the bands I know you don't like I do (GnR, Motley Crue, even Pearl Jam) but I still would enjoy seeing them being talked about. I would love to see an alternate show where you might talk about the Doobie Brothers, Great White, Sammy Hagar, Triumph, Thunder, the Scorpions, Journey. All these bands you guys do discuss but I think some of the HV squares are more into the extreme stuff. I grew up on a good diet of Led Zep, ACDC and the Doors. Soft rock, rock, hard rock, starting to get heavy but not going into the extreme.

When I first heard the album Seven Churches, it was on Montreal's CHUM FM metal show on Friday's nights at 11 pm. The host introduced the album like this: "Louder than Venom, faster than Slayer, here's Seven Churches by Possessed." Then, you could hear the theme song from "The Exorcist"... (the host always played the first two songs from each side.) I always think of that quote when I listen to that awesome album (which I bought the next day at 'Rock en Stock').

Do any of you know where the term "7 Churches" comes from? The Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament, chapters 2&3. These chapters contain the letters that were dictated to the Apostle John while he was exiled on Patmos. They were to be sent to 7 specific churches in Asia Minor (modern Turkey) and prophesy the future of the Christian Church, each letter referring to a different era. They lead into a discussion of the Apocalypse. You probably don't care, but I thought it might be interesting to some.
