  • Was the Diesel Swap worth it and would I recommend it to you?
    That is a simple question but it is far more complex to answer. The reality is, it depends on so many things.
    In this video I dive into my take on the diesel swap now that I have two years and over 50,000 miles on my swap. Take it for what it's worth. Your experiences may vary.
    I hope it helps!

    As a mechanic by trade I do not appreciate projects I'm not paid for. I've had a water pump in the back seat of my truck for over a year. But this is rad. Great work

      As an engineer with multiple trade certificates, I concur.....it annoys the sht out of my wife. Wife: "Take it somewhere or pay someone to do it", Me: "No, I can do it myself I'm not going to take it to someone else", Wife: "Then why haven't you done it yet, you've had plenty of time", Me: "Shit, I'm not getting paid for it".

      Food for thought, two really good options to look into for a Jeep engine swap. First, Golen Engine's 4.6L Jeep Stroker engine. Second, Cummin's R2.8 diesel crate engine.

    Is the OM612 from a sprinter a similar swap as the OM617? There are more sprinter engines available compared to 300d engines…

    I've been thinking about doing this to my cherokee, one thing I've been wondering is what kind of fuel mileage do you get? I used to have a diesel Mercedes car and it got almost 40mpg, the cherokee can't be a huge amount heavier then the 5,400lbs Mercedes.

    I've done a few large diesel swaps, never messed with the small tdis other than maintaining my car.

  • @tonycavez

    you did a lot of mods that don't have to be done if just using a stock motor, yes, the swap can be done for 5k or less if self-done, don't need intercooler , special pump or bigger turbo those are extra expenses, want more power in the back of the pump turn up the screw want even more power propane injection , in my 300sd i made a water bubbler( the liquid it bubbles is a secret) and i have tons of power for a couples of bucks

    • @Ajme-kb4os
      @Ajme-kb4os 2 года назад

      @@intimidate45 I did the swap in my Toyota. Honestly making up your own mounts is fairly easy. There’s also an amazing shop doomsday diesel that makes Jeep conversion stuff to the engine. Check them out. They got me to all the right info to build my om617 up.

    • @Terk131
      @Terk131 2 года назад +3

      @@intimidate45 in the long run the Mercedes is the way to go. The 4bt is heavy and parts are expensive as well. The Mercedes has different engines to choose from and like stated, the 4by will rattle the jeep apart, kill the suspension and the noise will eventually get to you. Now a Cummins 2.8 or 3.8 is an option.
