i saw these live back in the day they were bloody great one of those groups that just slip thru the net for some reason- they had the tunes, they were great live- funnily enough they remind me a bit of madness where they incorporate humour into the music but not where it takes away from the music-suggs married the singer bette bright
This group was several years ahead of the rest of the music scene. They did what other groups such as the B-52's or the Compact Organization did during the first half of the 1980's. It's amazing!
The female singer is Bette Bright. She is married to Suggs out of Madness. I went to see Deaf School at the Hardman Hotel in Liverpool in about 1988 (reunion concert). It was a superb gig. Near the end Suggs joined them on stage and they did My Girl's Mad at Me. Great memories.
Taxi Take me Wait No don't wait Driver take me on Searching Through the dark night Stop now It's a red light Find her she was blonde Now she's gone her name what's her name I must have been crazy to let her go like that And we were having such a good time Nights like these crazy people Two lonely hearts meet and then It's a caper to be forgotten all By tomorrow Slow down driver it doesn't matter anyhow Driving through the empty streets Counting on a chance to meet (Rain) Windscreen wipers splash and sigh While the nameless pass us by (Pass by) Taxi Take me Wait Don't wait Driver take me on Searching Through the dark night Stop now It's a red light Find her she was blonde Now she's gone her name what's her name We could have been so good together But now it looks like it's over before it began Hey driver take a right here would you There's some bars I used to go to maybe She's in one of those I want you back right here by my side Can't stand the thought of this long and lonely ride Nights like these always end the same I'm just driving driving in the rain Nights like these always end like this Guess I'll just keep on driving Passing strangers in the rain I knew I should have got her name (Slightly different between LIVE and lyrics.)
First saw this video when I was on an Oil tanker, deep in the Indian Ocean. Walport Telmar had provided films for the crew to watch and this was on one reel along with some other great music. Fell in love with the female singer immediately!! Lovely voice.
They deserved much much more recognition 😢
I was there that night in 77. LWT Studios! They were some band

Deaf School guitarist Clive Langer co-produced Madness' albums.
I remember first hearing this band 42 years ago. Them and the Beatles, the two best bands to come out of Liverpool. Masters of their craft.
Boom

Underrated band. I bought this album when it came out.

Taxi
Take me
Wait
No don't wait
Driver take me on
Searching
Through the dark night
Stop now
It's a red light
Find her she was blonde
Now she's gone her name what's her name
I must have been crazy to let her go like that
And we were having such a good time
Nights like these crazy people
Two lonely hearts meet and then
It's a caper to be forgotten all
By tomorrow
Slow down driver it doesn't matter anyhow
Driving through the empty streets
Counting on a chance to meet (Rain)
Windscreen wipers splash and sigh
While the nameless pass us by (Pass by)
Taxi
Take me
Wait
Don't wait
Driver take me on
Searching
Through the dark night
Stop now
It's a red light
Find her she was blonde
Now she's gone her name what's her name
We could have been so good together
But now it looks like it's over before it began
Hey driver take a right here would you
There's some bars I used to go to maybe
She's in one of those
I want you back right here by my side
Can't stand the thought of this long and lonely ride
Nights like these always end the same
I'm just driving driving in the rain
Nights like these always end like this
Guess I'll just keep on driving
Passing strangers in the rain
I knew I should have got her name
(Slightly different between LIVE and lyrics.)
GENIUS!!!!!!
Great song!

Watching this is a real flashback. Saw them play this song live when it was first released. I didn't get it back then. I still don't.
Steve was only 20 here 😮
I should have added - thanks for uploading this Kevin - brought back great memories
That's one of the great things about music, it can take you back to a very specific point in time and memories come flooding back.
