Thanks for this. I am a new driver and recently bought one of these after the old scissor jack in my used car broke. Never used these before but your video helped this clueless millennial so much😊👍
Thank you for helping a lot of folks. Things that may seem to be simple, arn't for those who haven't had the opportunity to learn. I'm a good example. I didn't know about that fill plug. Been using this type of jack, off & on, for years. Appreciate your insight. God Bless.
Yahoo! Thank you! I now know that my jack has 2 problems. When I bought, used, it it didn’t come with that little handle, so that’s problem number one. Problem number two - where I have it stored, it has developed a greasy little film on the floor around it, so it is probably leaking. 😞
I happened on this video b/c a repairman put an old bottle jack under my lawnmower to take the tire home and put plugs in. I picked up tire from his shop 18 miles away and brought it home to put on myself. (non-mechanical recent widow) Anyway, I could not get the jack down. I turned the valve on bottom counterclockwise and pushed on it but it didn't come down. It could be it has no jack oil. It is rusted and old. I think I found buried in the dirt when we bought our 6 acres. LOL
Thank you Brad , you are the teacher well thought out and explained . Now if you could explain how to install a low jack on a jack cause my adult kids can’t remember to return stuff Thank
Thanks for the video. It is very instructive and interesting. Do you know if the JET jacks are made in China or Taiwan. I am shopping for one and will like to buy something better than the ones low quality made in China. The ones U.S made are there but their prices are out of sight. Thanks
Found the answer to my question. JET jacks are made in China..I thought there were made in Taiwan. where usually they manufacture better quality than China.
Thank you. I just bought a 4 Ton bottle jack to raise my travel trailer and when I read the instructions, it said not for use on TTs. 😒. Is that really true or can I use it anyway?
@@lorihawkes1084 yes. You wouldn’t be putting all 3.5 tons of trailer n the 4 ton jack all at the same time. You would be lifting one corner at a time. It should be sufficient for that job.
Do you think I could use a similar 5-6 ton bottle jack to level an RV? I would simply park, level the RV using the bottle jack but place blocks under the wheels of the RV, then lower the bottle jack.
I kept twisting my valve until it came out with the rubber gasket inside. Now i had to wack it with a hammer to re insert the plug. Whacking in a twisting motion.
The good news Brad is that I'm an idiot and apparently don't know how to read a dip stick. My Toyota's torque converter wasn't bad it was just low on fluid.
@@bctruck I used a brand new bottle jack the other day and wasn't sure how to use it but after figuring it out I used it to lift the front tire and once I was done I lowered it by turning that little knob counter clockwise but as it lowered it didn't fully go down causing for it remain stuck under my vehicle, so kept turn the knob when all of a sudden it came right off and oil started pouring out. I quickly screwed the knob back on, a lot of oil poured out but not sure if it was all of it inside. I used another jack to lift the car and take the bottle jack out. Is the bottle jack still safe to use?
My 20 ton bottle jack lifted but after i turn the bleed screw to let it down it will not go down. What do i do? Do i have to jerk it out of my truck i lifted and put it in a press to get it down?, Harbor Freight.

After the tire is replaced, place a piece of board or a 2 by 4 under the tire, release the jack and you have clearence to remove it even if it is stucked. any how my friend drivers are not carefull to always carry shorts pieces of 2 by 4 and thiner ones in your car..This is a must. Most of the times you do not get a flat on a concrete flat surface.
looking at previous comments, this guy has encountered some flack, but he has correctly pointed out for the dumb mofo,s that you have to press bottle jacks back down after you have lowered the load.

saltyshellback exactly except it’s metric.
does it damage the hydraulic system if you lower it down too fast under load?
Well that im not sure about.
Thanks, i couldnt get it to lower when turning the screw
this was a good one. thanks Brad
How long can you leave a deck (for example) held up with a bottle jack???
Until the rubber O-Ring gives way. Could be an hour, could be a year. That why’s you never trust a jack without a jack stand.
Thanks for your help!
Thank you. I just bought a 4 Ton bottle jack to raise my travel trailer and when I read the instructions, it said not for use on TTs. 😒. Is that really true or can I use it anyway?
You can use it to raise it as long as you block it up and remove the jack. The jack is not intended to hold weight I definitely.

Is this better than a regular car jack or would you recommend this for a 2 ton vehicle
If your just changing a tire, I would use the jack that came with the vehicle. If you have no jack, this would work to.
What size jack should I get for a 4,000 lb. travel trailer, and/or Chevy Silverado?
A 6 or 10,000 pound would work
Very good. Thanks.

How do u adjust the piston ?? Mine won't unscrew like urs did even though in the manual it says it should
Hold the piston (carefully) with a pair of pliers and unscrew it with another pair of pliers.
What if you store it on its side what happens??????
Two things could happen. It could leak out the rubber stopper where it gets filled, and the purge valve could get air in it.
What happens if one stores a bootle jack on the side? Does it get irreparably damaged?
No, not irreparably damaged but it could let air into the system requiring the jack to be purged before it will raise a car.

I have bought a jack like this but it doesn’t fit my car - the chassis is lower than the jack’s minimum position

How can I get it under the car?
dri ve your car up on a board thick enough to raise the car enough to get the jack under it.

what's a 2 by 4?
It’s a common reference to a particular size of wood we use here in the US. 2 inch x 4 inch x 8 feet.
@@bctruck got it 👌

That's a fact Jack... lol

I waa going to say the same thing they are a pain to rebuild
The parts kits are more expensive than the jacks are.
What if it don't raise up?
check to see that you have enough hydraulic oil in it. It should be level with the fill hole.
@@bctruck it is! 😪

How high does a 7 ton bottle jack go ?
the height of the bottle jack, plus the piston ( about 4 inches) plus the inner screw (about 3 inches) .
Thanks a million
To tall for my car
I can't get the stupid thing down. I took the whole screw out and still can't get it down
