My grandparents have a wall in their home that has a lot of antique items hanging it, and it wasn't until I started watching these videos that I realized I recognized a few of those things as horseshoeing tools. Some of those trade implements have been the same for a long time, which is kind of cool. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I guess.
I love how you explain what you're doing Sheldon. Once you're a vet I hope you don't stop shoeing altogether. You're the only farrier I follow because you're the only one who explains what you're doing and why.
Hi From Israel. I'm an equestrian instructor so I watch our horses get their shoes done every once in a while and I got to say that I LOVE your attitude towards the horses, it's not as common to see a farrier that calm and patience with horses. Keep up the great work!

You usually get payed pretty well for this job. I doubt you really need to grind out horses all day everyday even if you weren't part time like this guy.

Wish I had a sweetheart to give one of those hearts to, I'll just have to get me a sweatshirt! I had Redbone hounds for years and when circumstances permit I'll have another. Looks to me like a bloodhound was the inspector on that job, remember this all hounds are dogs....but all dogs are not hounds. The faith is kept on this end, may the Lord watch over you and your loved ones

Definitely such a thing. In his videos if you notice the yellow or white lime going around the hoof that's the actually hard part that supports the horse. You want to maintain that.
Do you mean, cutting the hoof?, if so, then one must be educated on hoof Anatomy and critical proper function, before attempting removal or risk, immediate or systematic damage to soundness and function. To know the difference between live sensitive and dead, protective and how much of those are needed for protection and proper function. With hoof distortions from the norm or proper function, in extreme cases a farrier likes to have film to show the effects of the distortion to evaluate and treat, but often don't have that luxury and has to rely on experience and instinct to do so.

Hi Sheldon I hope you and the family had a good holiday season! When shoeing a horse that has an injury like a broken coffin bone, do you need to take therapeutic measures on the other hooves so the horse is balanced for maximum healing?
Have you considered a print on demand model for your sweatshirts? It might take a bit longer to get on our end, but I think it might take longer to get on our side, but it leaves you a lot of flexibility

Love the hearts! I know ferriers normally bend over and hold the horses’ hoof between their knees but that is so hard on your back! Can you think about sitting on a stool or do they make things like they have for cow hoof trimmers that’ll raise and hold the hoof hydraulically?
They are different names for them but cattle chutes exist and there are cheaper ones and expensive ones with hydraulics and computer systems. "The Hoof GP" here on RUclips uses one that lifts the foot back for easy trimming
I’ve got a question.. I’m working on being a farrier myself, I’m able to understand that when filling when the white lining of the foot begins to turn pinkish and become softer that you need no longer to file more of the foot down but I’m still very cautious on using the nippers because I don’t want to go too deep so I end up trimming what I know for sure is too much hoof which also means I end up filing a lot by hand.. what’s a tip that you kind of use so you know where to start with the nippers so I’m not having to file as much

I’m not sure how to word this, so I hope you understand my question. Do you have to measure the horses hip to hoof so all the legs are even in length? For balance (hip?) and/or weight distribution? Does it impact how much hoof is removed?
Maybe this is a silly question, but if you needed to work on a hoof for an extended time, so it was up for quite awhile between your knees, could the horse get pins and needles like people do?
Please don’t speed up when you nail the shoe on. The sound of the nail being hit is such a satisfying “thwack” and honestly seeing you smack that nail every time... it’s a beautiful art, man. Also you’re my favorite farrier on RUclips ❤️🤠

I've been told you can tell a bit about a horses health by the texture of the hoof growth. If true, does the stress of the broken coffin bone equate to the rough growth at the top? (from central Oklahoma)
Hi Shannon, no, the outer layer is old horn. Sheldon is doing some modeling on the hoof so when the horse walks. The hoof will "break over", putting less stress on the inside of the foot.

I've seen a lot of dogs go after the hoof material that falls the ground. Sell that for dogs. Lol call it hoof a woof!.....or woof waffles.
We always called the hoof trimmings, especially the small pieces from the rasp, Canine Coconut.
