I watch them to wind down before bed.. Kind of like soap cutting but for hooves its sort of satisfying relaxing.

It's called being curious and that's how learning happens. That goes for both horses and people (children). I'm surprised that the mom isn't more nervous about what's happening to her with her baby right there.
The teats are also between the back legs... was just hungry.

@@84953 some mares don’t fret a lot. My mares dam was always like “take her away.” But if you met my horse and knew her as a baby you’d understand why her mom wanted a break.
Aww, I think the mare was teaching her baby by example - “be calm, don’t wiggle, and see it doesn’t hurt to get your feet trimmed.” Interesting that the 4 footed spectator wanted some milk instead of a yummy piece of hoof trimmings to chew.
I brain keeps trying to tell me that the tail is the farrier’s long hair that needs pinned up before this sort of work. Lol.
Mine too. Especially, as that tail matches my hair pretty closely...

Nicely done and really like the attention to detail as you balance the hooves. Plus that is a rock solid mom of a horse to get trimmed and let her baby get a snack.
Was just watching the video, looking for the curious, shy baby. But was distracted for awhile by the ad that was telling me that farts burn fat. Then my kiddo heard it and piped up with, 'yeah mom, that's why I'm in such great shape!' 😂 good grief RUclips

You know that weird feeling you get when you trim your nails or hair short for the first time in a while? Do horses get that feeling with their feet?

Yes, I used have a shoer that always trimmed my gelding way too short and every time he was sore for a week after his trim. Needless to say I fired that guy.

from what I know it's recommended to not ride the horse the day they get trimmed, so they can get used to the feeling. So they probably feel it!

It's very satisfying to see her feet all properly trimmed up neat and tidy. When I look at any horse, one of the first things I do is look at their hooves. If they haven't had any attention in a long time, my next thought is, "Oops! Time to call the farrier." Props and kudos to all farriers. They are wonder workers. 😃

Exactly what I needed to reinvigorate me in the middle of a rough day! Seeing the baby's curiosity made me wonder, how young are horses on average when they get their first trim/shoeing? Do they get their feet handled younger so they're already a little desensitized to the process?
