      Probably one of the best crests in the game, which kind of makes sense given his personal ability being one of the worst because Persecution Complex can do the same thing but more easily activated and and more practical to use.

      Pretty sure most units would happily trade their perineal for Felix’s. The early game benefit outweighs the effective lack of a trait later on in the game.

      @@cryguy0000 persecution complex. That the name for it! I had so many friends quickly label him a tsundere. Which I just denied, but couldn't say what it was. Thanks so much, 3 years later I'm going to correct this friend of mine.

      For how big a role they play in the story the crests are not very impactful. Though I do get why as making them very strong means people will only use crest users and bench everyone else.

    I'm a fan of using Felix as a dual-phase War Master. If you are utilizing the DLC, he can master War Monk for Brawl Avo +20; he can mass counter with a reasonable crit build and mastering War Master with Quick Riposte makes it more likely he can clear an enemy phase. Blue Lions already provides early access to Retribution via Kingdom Archers. If DLC is not an option, he is open to Batallion Vantage at C Authority and follow the same crit build.

    5 damage is on paper very attractive, but for some maps that have a lot of enemies that Felix can't immediately dispatch all at once, you'll go "GOD DAMN IT FELIX WHERE IS YOUR BATTALION OH RIGHT YOU DONT HAVE ONE"

    Error Correcting Comment:
    Fraldarius doesn't proc on combat arts - This shouldn't change too much, one thing to bear in mind is it gives some things higher combat potential than some combat arts (IE; just doubling with Gauntlets over Nimble Combo, Brave Bow over HV Silver Bow, etc)
    The numbers for those Chapter 1 oneshots were just... wrong? I don't know if I was looking at the wrong difficulty or something when I mathed this out.

    He's really just a ball of goodstuffs. Even without any secret sauce, his early to mid game is pretty solid, and it lets him just carry that momentum into the lategame. I'd much rather be using him than ashe or in-house ingrid for example. Likewise on other routes he's just really easy to recruit for the 'standard' byleth build, and most routes have one or two more 'benchable' units. Shoutout to silver snow where you don't want to be investing in hubert or edelgard, and also can't get most of the useful church units until the very last chapter of part 1, meaning there is a very real need to plunder the other houses to plug the holes, and felix is quite good at hole-filling.

    Your analyses are getting more and more precise. The inclusion of specific ko thresholds here elevates the discussion in practical terms rather than theory craft terms.
    I really like Victor PMC's as a battalion for him. Despite being a paralogue battalion, they are actually just C rank and give good str and hit bonuses. Very solid for auth bane physical units in the meantime until they hit the coveted B rank for something else.
    In these I'd like so see you give some thoughts on purely fun, non optimal builds at the end. In his case I find the aegis shield (major crest = higher proc rate) + pav+gis build for perma half damage, is my personal favorite meme.

    Optimal magic Felix is: Certify for warlock for the magic base increase and then just use a levin sword in swordmaster and stack sword crit +20 because black magic crit +10 can't do anything right, use astra Blutgag. Or trade the levin sword for a bolt axe and go Warmaster instead.
    Or go mortal savant for access to his best spell: recover

    I think something can be said about Felix's early game, I've been theory crafting solo runs in 3 houses and Felix is one of the few units that can reliably get through CHP1 without the use of DLC items. He can take on all of the first map without any growth requirements. His strongest assets his his DMG output outclassing Dimitri and Edelguard being the strongest units for CHP1 based on bases.

    It's back!
    I've seen this information going around a bit lately but I never have been able to proc his crest on a Combat Art and only on regular attacks. I don't know where it originated from but until I see it with my own eyes I'll just assume it's misinformation slipping in from somewhere. The wording on the crest effect is a bit misleading I'll admit.
    I know it's not something he's gonna use very often but I'm surprised the Aegis Shield wasn't mentioned. On his brawling build the low weight of gauntlets helps alleviate the huge 7 weight of the shield.
    Like you said, Felix has a great early game and good stats but by the end game he's kind at the mercy of whatever class he's using. I'd stick to the easy stuff like Sniper or Grappler but if he grows well and/or Speed Carrots are easily farmed he can make for a great War Master or Bow Knight since not every enemy in the game is an Assassin with 50+ speed.

    In my most recent playthrough Felix really saved the day on the last map of Azure Moon due to making him be able to dual phase all of the damn war masters and mages in the throne room. They had very low hit chances, war masters having 10-14% x4 and the mages having 4% x1. He could kill one and avoid the rest while he blocked the doorway. I got lucky he never got a crit to the face by one of the war masters, but I was still willing to take the small risk and it paid off.
    Good job on this video. Glad to see more of these videos and looking forward to you doing more characters.

  • @jamesoakes4842
    @jamesoakes4842 2 года назад +7

    On the idea of an enemy phase Felix, I feel like Hero deserves an honorable mention. Pretty much every build for Felix is going to raise Axes for Brigand, so qualifying for Hero is easy, usually even easier than Swordmaster. Hero comes preloaded with Vantage, which saves an ability slot. Free Swordfaire is fitting for Felix as well, since a lot of people like having him as a swordsman purely for thematics. You'll likely still want to raise Axes further to get Wrath from Warrior, but other than that, you still stick entirely to his strengths. You'd probably end up with a build of Sword Proficiency, Wrath, Death Blow, Defiant Strength, Swordfaire. Possibly swap out Death Blow for something else if going 100% enemy phase.
    It's a fun and different way to go about building an enemy phase unit, and actually lets Felix keep a bit of a different flavor from other characters, who will often be going with similar builds. Finally, while I don't think Hero would be Felix's optimal build, Enemy Phase Felix is probably the optimal character for Hero itself. It's fun to try at least once.

    In terms of Battalions, I find it best to just slap a support Battalion on Felix when you want to start raising his rank, since they're guaranteed to succeed and provide your army some nice support options.
    His bane in the Authority skill and low Charm growth rate make him a poor Gambit user anyway, so you aren't really missing out on giving him an offensive one. Let other units inflict Shatter and let Felix clean them up.
    One thing I do recommend is training his Heavy Armor skill to get Weight -5 to make the Aegis Shield weigh less, because that thing is really heavy. Giving him the free Pavise+Aegis combo and his inherently high dodge rate means that he can tank surprisingly well and potentially reduce damage should the enemy actually manage to hit him.
    Another potential point of contention is the fact that he's one of the very few units to benefit from mastering Swordmaster, since each attack during Astra can trigger the Crest effect and will also apply the Lone Wolf damage buff if he has no Battalion. A high Crit weapon can deal some truly nasty damage if RNG favours you, whilst mastering Trickster can make it hard for enemies to punish him if they survive.
    To put that into perspective, that's 25 extra damage total from Lone Wolf, a potential 25 from max Crest activation. That's 50 damage without factoring the actual weapon damage itself.

      Crest of Fraldarius doesn't proc on combat arts and astra's math is more complicated than that. Every 3 points of might equals roughly 1 damage. So his personal would give about 1 or 2 extra damage x5.
      That being said: Astra is funny to use and that's a good enough reason to use it.

    Every time I start a new play through I want to do something different with Felix like actually make him a Swordmaster or hell, even a Mortal Savant, but his brawling is just too good so I always end up going War Master and I have no regrets. He and Yuri are my usual ground unit War Masters while everyone else is up in the air as Falcon Knights, Wyvern Lords or Dark Fliers (maneuverability > x2 spells imo) and they are always some of my most important units. Felix was also my first S support, no regrets.

    I'm building Mortal savant with Felix. Knowing his magic stats aren't great, I'm doing the level 20-30 grind as an assassin for the ridiculous dexterity growth. That way, even if his magic isn't high, his spells will at least be hitting crits most of the time.
    Swordmaster does have much better strength growths, but his strength growths are already really good anyway. Plus the assassin having better movement and forest walking is a nice way for him to keep up with the rest of my team that has higher mobility.

    I have to disagree with your assertion that Felix turns into a competent but unremarkable end-game unit. He is tied with Edelgard for having the highest strength in the game, but unlike Edelgard's unimpressive 40% speed growth he has a strong 55%, so he's much more likely to double. Even on maddening NG he's often able to double by the end of the game. Add that to the fact that he's male and can therefore use the grappler/war master classes and he can turn out to easily be one of the strongest player-phase units in the game. And that's not counting his crest having a 40% chance to activate for each of the four hits of gauntlets!
    I've used Felix in three routes and in each, by the end he was easily the highest damaging unit outside of the lords, and often outshining them and Byleth. If the highest strength growth in the game is "unremarkable", what does that make literally every other unit?
    I'd also say that it's a mistake to make him an enemy phase unit with vantage/wrath, since this requires him to be hit enough to activate it when you want it to. Felix's high speed and dex means that he often dodges enemy attacks, even on maddening. I found that he works perfectly well with Aegis, dodging most attacks but tanking the rest with ease before dealing his 35x4 with a 60% chance to crit combo.

    • @JonoabboFE
      @JonoabboFE  Год назад +3

      I don't understand what you mean by "Highest strength in the game"? Felix has base 10, Edelgard has base 13. Also, those difference in speeds amount to a whopping 6 points over 40 levels - exactly the same amount granted by darting blow.
      Strength is just fuel for damage, and if Felix was higher damage than Dedue/Bernie/Cyril, whom all have access to vengeance, then you are horribly misusing those units, and that's just the most obvious three.
      Also, Felix doesn't have the highest strength growth in the game, Dimitri does.
      On top of that, Felix is absolutely not consistently doubling on maddening. He doesn't get Darting blow access and it massively hinders his potential there.
      But ultimately, it isn't hard to get anybody killing on the player phase - the issue with Felix is that he is locked to a 5/6 move class whilst doing so.

    • @flowerpetal_
      @flowerpetal_ Год назад

      I kinda disagree though. I made Felix assassin, same as Byleth, with exact build. Both ended up being reliable dodge tanks in maddening (I know assassin has stealth but it doesn't really matter when they're alone surrounded by enemies). Difference was Felix having more speed while Byleth having more strength. So no, he doesn't have highest strength.

    • @brainwasher9876
      @brainwasher9876 3 месяца назад

      @@flowerpetal_ Felix doesn't have the absolute highest strength, but he's VERY much up there. If you add his damage increases on average from his crest, he often tops the charts. That, and the fact that he naturally works best with gauntlets, wildly increases his potential compared to any of his female competitors (female byleth/edelgard).
      Felix is also the only person who can make full use of the Aegis shield, which makes him potentially one of the best tanks in the game, particularly if you grind for certifications early on.
      End of the day, any class that uses brawling is Felix's highest potential classes, since the more times he can attack, the more times his crest activates. Make him a grappler or war master and freely marvel at how he can easily player or enemy phase against multiple enemies, even on maddening NG.
      Jonoabbo's assertion that Bernie/Dedue/Cyril's potential is higher thanks to their vengeance is also very misleading. Dedue is route-locked and has plenty of problems on his own, including his health not often dropping much against physical fighters, and all vengeance users have to either have an anemic vengeance or be restricted for player phase, unless a lot of set up with vantage/blessing/retribution is set up. Felix is good to go to ORKO a bunch of units with practically no set up, on either enemy or player phase, while not risking getting killed, and with a fraction of the durability. You don't need to do 175 damage every round to be good. You need to do enough damage to kill to be good, and Felix absolutely can achieve that.
      I'm also not sure why so many FE3H youtubers are so set on knocking points off characters who MAY (massive emphasis on "may") be used in 5-6 movement classes. 90% of turns, for 90% of maps, the enemies are coming to you, and you can literally attack and kill people on each turn regardless of movement speed. And even if you are horrified by smaller movement, you could just...reclass Felix as a Wyvern or Paladin. It prevents him from using gauntlets, but he's still one of the highest strength units with one of the most reliable crests in the game.
